43 year old here, I can’t imagine how much Neil’s music has influenced people much older than me..?! Like. .., seeing THiS live?!! OMG 😱 I would flip … and pay 5 times the ticket price!..which was like 3 dollars I’m sure.. lol .. ❤ I’m just saying he has been a Tower of what I always wanted my acoustic playing to be like !.. and his vibe, and some of those REaL famous hits, I dug sooo much when I was 18!.. I wish I could have seen him live, I could have too !!? But screwed that up . Anyway all the love and hope in the world to you all!! Everyone !! ❤YA

Neil Young wrote the music in 1970 and the lyrics are all true and after he join CSN . The southern states people were hypocritical and plain bad people. Holding the Bible on one hand, praying for the so called lord while killing, hanging the black folks even when he wrote the music. Besides they kept doing so for over a120 years, killing during the week and going to church pray every Sunday like Angels. N Y is Canadian but he lives California on his ranch since he was 24 . He is a great singer, music writer and guitar player. I am not an American but travel the entire south and sure there are plenty of good people, but got to meet some really nasty folks, and not just a few a whole bunch of aholes. US has on that matter lots of resemblance with my country Brazil. We both were the major slave buyers at the time during the XVIII century. The civil war there was over in 1865 am i right? And here without any war slavery finish in 1888. Sure we have problems but not as bad,to make worse now is all coming back here and there. Is becoming some sort of trend. Guys I lived in DC over a year, and can say is a two way street,Black folks are also don`t like us much, In a city where 80% are black and living in a neighbour where most where African Americans as they start to call themselves in the 80´s, I a 6.1 ft tall ,,green eyes and clear and straight hair felt and had some hard moments in the beginning . As a tennis player there were public courts 60 yards from my house,it took almost two months for them allow me to play. Just because they found out i was from Brazil, was the only white playing with them, and being a much better player teach a bit and we became friends, End up going out together and even could get some black women from their circle. Like when you get a membership from a club, anyway they were nice people once the barrier was broken. Anyway Southern Man is a great tune and all that shit people talk about l Skynyrd having some kind of grudge towards him for the music isn t true. Sorry for almost writing a book.

Speaking as a 'Southern State' person - you don't know what the hell you're talking about. There are - and have always been - 'plain bad people' on both sides of the Mason-Dixon. This song seriously sucks, as does your little tirade about southerners. Nobody can change the past, but songs like this just make the same old stereotypes live on in the minds of people who don't know jack. And it's been said before - because it's true - but the most racist people of all are the self-righteous liberals who like to go around pointing fingers at everyone except themselves.
