They built this as part of the World Expo in 2005, held in Aichi prefecture Japan, just outside of Seto. It has been preserved as a permanent exhibit.

I wonder if any child thought that they saw Totoro after visiting this place. After watching the film yesterday, I kinda wondered if anyone over Mei and Satsuki's ages, as in, those who are young at heart, ever seen Totoro. (Ridiculous, yes, but I like to believe in the fantastic)

アニメのイメージからしたら、家の周りをあんなに舗装したらちょっと違う。何より土っぽさが大事だし、雑草の手入れ位は想定内にしてほしい、観覧者の歩きやすさとかは元気な人なら余計なお世話。車椅子だって作り方次第でそれほどじゃないと思う。

Totoro Means King A rich man named Bakashi Nandaksu idolized “studio ghibli” and built the house for some reason, he first thought building the house and wanted it to become a tourist spot for people who watched the movie and he have the money so, why not? It is built last June 17, 2003.
