What a small world ☺️ I lived down the street from Mrs. Mobley at my grandmas house. When Nelson passed, I was 7 😔 I surely would’ve loved to have met him. He’d be in his golden years and I could picture him enjoying his retirement in Kershaw.

These are priceless gems from a beautiful soul. It saddens me that I never got to meet him when I lived 3 houses down from Mrs. Mobley and just about as close to his grandma's house. I was born in '82 so I was only 7 at the time. Mrs. Mobley's dog used to scare me and just about everyone that dared walk on their side of the sidewalk. He was an old dog but he had quite the bark and growl. Fortunately, he never chased me. Back to Nelson... He truly captures the spirit of a South Carolinian. His voice and his personality could cheer up the grumpiest of people. It's fascinating how ahead of his time he was. If he were around just 3 years later, I'm pretty sure we would've met as I was on my bicycle riding around the blocks with my buddies every chance we got. At the exact time he was filming this, I was down the same bypass Mrs. Mobley's home was on... at Kershaw Primary School (2nd grade). Nelson reminds me of a buddy of mine named Rusty. Next year, I will be the age Nelson was in this video. I could go on but I'll close in saying that Kershaw was such a great place to grow up. I feel like we got the last remnants of the innocence of the 50s. There was just a sense of security, warmth, love, and respect. The pace was slower and, while we were soon to get introduced to computers, we were still old school and I feel our connections were more genuine... but I digress. I hope that all of his family, friends, associates, and my classmates that were related to him see the beautiful videos he left behind. I'm going to visit his resting place the next time I'm down there to see my folks. PS. Forgive me for rambling and I hope it's cohesive enough... it was a long day but I just had to reply

What he says from 08:08 to 08:50 shook me to my core. I know hes talking about his future plans of quitting his regular job at the end of June and devoting himself full time to filming and hopefully developing a cable show (and bigger plans) but what he says can also easily apply to his eventual unexpected passing in the early morning of July 4th of that same year, 1989. Nelson touches my heart because he is so in love with and proud of his hometown and his family and he showed such reverence for his grandmothers home. His childhood memories were so pure and vivid. They way he spoke of his grandmothers house and the church being his most favorite placed touches my heart. He was a true gentleman and his visit to his childhood neighbor was also touching and sweet... it was also so prophetic in that he explained that the previous day he attended church and saw so many people he hadn't seen in years. He literally called it "...a blessing" and it truly was because that was the last time all of those folks he loved got to see him. He was truly too good for this world. He was a sweet, handsome man and and a generous and kind friend. He truly reminds me of my brother who passed of HIV/AIDS in 1992. God bless your memory, Nelson. ❤

My neighborhood is filled with them, in just that style, and it is a full-time job to maintain their beauty. Nothing like wrap-around porch in the spring and summer. Nelson led a charmed life, in every way, experiencing the South, family, a true sense of home, and also the New York of the 80s, a time of such excitement and innovation, everything felt new and fun back then, and the living was certainly easier.

Slava Gorbunov I think that may be the wrong house? I just looked and I’m pretty sure it’s 214 State Road s-29-13 Kirshaw. The house opposite is the one in the video and when you look at the side of the house you see the shed and gazebo

@Slava Gorbunov I think the house you’re talking about is the one at 2:36 in this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y6TdfouAf7qohpY. Looks similar but isn’t his grandmothers house.

He passed when I was 2 and I don't know why but I am absolutely entranced by these flms. I like to go through every little detail to see how different things were. For those of you who don't know he was a legend... Taken before his time. He was on the hottest scene and now I want to know all I can about him.

I bet he had an amazing childhood!! I would've loved to have had him as a good friend. He was such a beautiful, compassionate, kind hearted, curtious, intellectual & humble soul. Everyone says he was ahead if his time...he definitely was. His grandmothers home was so beautiful wonder what it looks like now... Thank you Nelson for sharing these mere glimpses into your beautiful life💫❤❤ RIP

He touches my heart. I’m from North Carolina. And now I wish I was from Kershaw because they certainly have the most delightful southern accents I’ve ever heard. I hope he and his parents and Mrs. Mobley are having a grand time.

it's very sad to know how true his statement was and that he will never get to know how much good, happiness, truth and inspiration he has and continues to spread amongst the universe. the records should be preserved forever. thank you, Nelson. RIP.

All of Nelson's family and friends were so blessed to have him in their lives. How could the older generations ever think they would outlive him. He continues to bring joy to all who see his videos.

This is my favorite of all his videos. It is amazing to hear his frequent references to leaving on a higher level of awareness. He made a number of such references, including in his last video and he sounded completely at peace.

For all the young people out there, this video shows real human interaction. It’s crazy to know that this is not very common nowadays. People are more uptight and there is no trust. The internet changed us all...

Hello from 2022 - I just discovered Nelson and his incredible footage of the 1980's. I was 4 years old in 1989 and it's amazing to see the world during my early childhood. He was talented and such a wonderful human! Gone far too soon! RIP Nelson!

This guy's mastery of keeping everything in frame so firmly with a heavy old VHS camera at arm's length is surreal. I think he was a foresighted genius in his own way.

Listen to those prophetic words at 8:28 ,"Now it's time to leave and move on" he said "I'm moving on to another world,a world with electronic energy, and with God's help he will pervade the whole universe with goodness, truth and plenty". He sounded like he knew that was his last visit home and was saying his last goodbyes and some how he knew what the electronic world with social media would look like and what affect one could have by their own personal vlogs. You have to wonder.

I don't want to say what I think happened on July 4th 1989..he is saying his goodbyes to everyone on a lot of videos prior to that day. They say it was a heart attack...all I know is he was way ahead of his time, he was a true gentleman and I wish I could have met him.
