Thank you JP for putting this together. I’m writing an essay about the history of jazz in Montreal and became absolutely fascinated by Nelson Symonds. I was shocked that there were so few recordings and writings documenting his life and work. Oral -and aural - history is so important when it comes to jazz. Thank you for sharing your memories.

Great Tribute i for a short time managed his cousin Ivan Symonds. Nelson could have been huge if he toured but he did not want to go down south do the chitlin circuit and deal with the racism thanks for posting a great guitarist and montreal Jazz legend to me and amny others.

Thank you Walter I saw Ivan a couple of times at Rockheads but Nelson was my idol. I had a feeling that he didn't want to go to the States because of all that.

I used to go to the Black Bottom when I was in high school in the early 1960s. They had an upright piano there. I sat down and played some blues on it a few times.

HI Karl. We were probably there at some of the same times. What an amazing trio that was.
