Hey Jamie, I just wanted to thank you for your review of the BlackIce. Yours is the only review of the iOS app on the web and, trusting your opinion as a bass player, I finally took the plunge. Well, to be perfectly honest, it was out of sheer frustration with the Bass Deluxe, which you also gave a fairly good review of. The two are, of course, night and day. The BlackIce has everything: wallop, growl, transparent presence, and sonic purity. Nothing seems synthetic; everything seems solid, legit, and natural. The price tag was off-putting, but I immediately, one after the other, removed all the apps I had layered onto the Bass Deluxe app to try to make it sound decent: the BlackIce does the whole job. So, again, thanks for your work on this review: it made me a very happy (ex) hippy too.

Hi John, I do like to try and keep the hippies happy! Thank you for taking the time to leave such a nice comment. I’m surprised you didn’t get on well with the bass deluxe, I did think it was pretty damn good. However, the BlackIce is in a different class. In fact, with such a lack of bass amps made for iOS, it really is THE bass amp. Mammoth is also excellent but it really comes into its own with more extreme sounds. I know some of those guitar rig style apps have bass amps but that’s not what I want. I want stand alone made for purpose AUV3 bass amps. :)

Definitely. What I tend to do is record the bass in clean and then experiment after the fact. Sometimes I just leave it clean but now I have this, it is definitely going to get a lot of use.

I know you have some top-notch samples from prior videos, but what did you use to host and sequence them? Sounds really good. Also, I’m def grabbing this app. Nembrini is 🔥!!

Thank you dude! The set of drum samples in the intro have been in my samples folder for many years. They’re just one shots, no layers and I’m not sure where they came from - possibly computer music mag. But they work great in a dark, heavy mix - I’ll send em you if you like.

That is if I don’t win it here.. 😁 Great demo Jamie.. been waiting for a bass amp from Nembrini since they put out their first guitar amp on iOS.. from what I heard here, it was definitely worth the wait (weight?).. Fantastic explanation of the signal flow + what each knob + button actually do.. there’s quite a few ways of adjusting volume + gain here.. just need to remember which one comes before the other.. no question it has wonderful tones within.. and a fairly wide assortment at that.. should cover most situations + instruments.. ❤️ that 8 string! I also dig the one knob compressor.. the perfect amount of tweaking for me.. less = left, more = right.. simple yet powerful + quick.. I’m quite sure this’ll be my go-to bass amp on my iPad.. What about you? OR - That is until they bring out their SVT or B-15 or Acoustic 360/361 versions.. 😎 Mammoth will still have a place depending on the song + tone required.. it’s got some really cool features built-in that are fun to experiment with.. Really appreciate your time + effort to put this together Jamie.. Needed to hear it in a few different styles with a few different instruments.. this was perfect..👍 Awesome job.. thank you + thanks to Nembrini for bringing us a great bass amp..

Thank you for watching and leaving such a great comment. I feel that moving forward this will be my main bass amp for my main sound for my own creations. I’ll call upon Mammoth though when it needs to get really dirty and I would definitely use MixBox for bass again if I need something more pop or soul perhaps - and you know - bass deluxe is pretty good, especially in an old school classic rock kind of way. It’s nice to have choices suddenly - we never had them before. I’m beginning to feel good about being an iOS bass player. Who knows what will be next. But I’d say the bar is set pretty high right now.

Can you share the basic details of what you're using beside your bass connected to the iPad running BIBG [which btw I WANT ;)]? Reason why I'm asking is that this really sounds like you're testing only hardware, real amps et-al. If the app is the main thing here - that's impressive!

There’s nothing to share really dude. Bass guitar plugged straight into a Focusrite iTrack Dock which is no longer made. It’s of a similar standard to the other Focusrite interfaces. There’s nothing else to it.

Yes. I love Tonestack pro. I think a lot of the effects are 2nd to none and the amps are good. But this and Mammoth are the best sounding bass amps on iOS. I often use Tonestack pro like a pedalboard in front of Nembrini amps or Mammoth.
