Question chuck, would the sundown SA 15 recone kit work in a Skar DDX basket since they are identical?

While the baskets are the same design the motor structures are diffent. They have diffent coil gaps, motor depth and top plate thickness. You will likely run into clearance issues even though it may fit the basket. I don't recommend it honestly

Is it actually carbon fiber ?

Yes. It is real carbon for the cone body, as well as the cap. I have a few samples from Shanghai Chenbao Audio, with the same cone body, but with tall roll surround, and matching caps. Thanks for the comment and question.

@@Chuck_Sanders yah I thought so too but MBE was arguing with me , sorry but even on camera i was pretty sure since I have experience laying up composites on 747s

@@annihilationindustries1990 yeah. He was incorrect and it happens lol. Most people expect it to be raw carbon, or carbon laminated to paper. These aren't super thick, but they are treated, with a nice and thick high gloss finish. The carbon is fully encapsulated so it won't have problems with the leads, because you know the carbon is conductive, since you deal with it. And yeah, I remember that conversation in the comments on his channel. I believe he thought it was plastic.

Some has ro make a 3 inch coil 8 inch not enough spider for me

This sub performs well, overall. Some 8" subs have larger than 3" coils, and do "ok" but not in the grand scope of things.

Actually, Orion had a finned back plate yes, but it was steel and not aluminum, therfore it was cosmetic. As far as your issues with MB, take that up with him. This isn't a video about DD or MBE, and this isn't their channels. 👍

Actually, Orion’s back plate extended into to pole…..also steel can still be used as a sink just not as well as dispersing heat as aluminum, and since you love to comment on mbe and mention him in your videos it’s weird you would tel me not to speak of him on your channel……you can delete my comments if you wish like he does when they don’t follow his narrative. But yes dd copied orions concept and the same goes for the Neo pole cap that dd claimed was theirs as well. Anywho maybe you should challenge mbe’s mistakes more often then instead of letting him make up his own truth, unless your afraid of getting deleted.

@@entvids1 actually the pole and back plate are one piece, and the back plate doesn't "extend" into the pole, plus steel is horrible at dissipating heat in general. I comment on many posts by many people. I said if you have issues with him, which you clearly do, that you should take those issues up with him just like i do, because this isn't the MBE channel. I can mention whomever in my content. As far as worried about being deleted.. lol. I've corrected him before many times, and disagree with him at times and have voiced it. You're more than welcome to go through plenty of comments I've left on his videos on his channel, to see that I've disagreed with him and corrected him. He's never deleted any comments I've made, whether he liked what I said or not. As far as DD and their use of neo on the pole, I corrected him there as well, as they were not the first to utilize that and didn't pioneer it, just like Orion was not the first to use some sort of "cooling" design in their motor by trying to increase surface area of the back plate, either by machining fins, or in some way trying to increase surface area. Several manufacturers used not only enclosing their motor structure inside the aluminum basket, but also using aluminum on the actual structure of the motor. Loudspeaker's, subwoofers and any driver in general isn't overly complicated, and manufacturers copy each others designs all the time.. it's nothing new.
