Has to be one of the single dumbest threads I've ever seen. The fact that it's massively upvoted and so many agree tells us everything we need to know about the LoL reddit. I can add on to what nemesis said "Riven is not picked because there are other cool characters now" Yes! Back in 2013, Riven was one of just a few extremely skillful fast paced combo oriented champs. There are 15-30 champs that fit this loose description now. So many former Riven mains I know (including me) have moved on to play other characters like Zeri, Viego, Gwen, Samira, Yone, Akali - etc "Riven without resources is terrible" Yep. Pros don't pick Riven because she requires an entire comp to be built around her and she has terrible matchups in lane. Riven will get dove 100-0 by Renekton + Rell and be a non factor for the whole game. Riven has about 5 matchups that are so unplayable you can't win no matter what, and pros know this. Poppy top/jungle is picked in pro, and shuts down Riven's entire kit. Riven is the most feast or famine character in the game. When Riven is fed, she can stand in a 1v3, kill 2, and live. When Riven is behind, she gets blown up and does absolutely nothing. It has nothing to do with her fast q.

I still remember how montages about riven wallhopping were all around internet around season 3-4 and at time it was insane to have it in the game, then boxbox insanely popularised her with doing all the guides, it lead to the point of respecting riven mechanics to then community collectively hating riven for her whole kit, now we have riven times 3 at most new champions, insane to look at it from that time perspective

Funny as well how you can counter the "pros" argument also by mentioning how there are many former Riven otp's in pro play, who never pick the champ. @@sveeme My guy it's not that Riven is not worth to learn, it's that SOLOQ and COMPETITIVE are COMPLETELY DIFFERENT. If you meet Renekton and Elise duo in SoloQ they might not even KNOW they can perma dive top the ENTIRE GAME, the Renekton might not even KNOW he HARDLOSES level 1 to Riven so he'll think its an easy matchup and throw the lane forever. In competitive? EVERYONE THERE knows how to pilot Renekton cause hes been played literally every season, and if they pick Renekton with Elise/Nidalee/Taliyah then Riven WILL NOT play the game. She'll get dove then solo killed then dove again and be the shittest champion ever, but in SoloQ players are not that COORDINATED to make such plays so Riven thrives.

i really love riven design and the skins, i am also very happy when i have her in my team because i love the wombo potential. Problem is that a lot of new champions can do the same or similar stuff without needing mechanics.

This is basically Reddit overall, from politics to games to almost anything. People there only have more articulation in general, but their knowledge is surface level, in which dumb posts are usually massively upvoted because the upvote and downvote system creates echo chambers, or because mods remove divergent opinions, which eventually leads to any sub being similar minded, which usually means full of dumbasses who upvote other dumbases. Reddit is like that in a nutshell.

Literally every Diamond+ Riven main (which is easily over 5,000) is using fastQ consistently every game. That thread is infuriatingly silver. I've been fast comboing since before practise tool existed. I had to learn that shit in URF when it came around. It's so easy to learn now. A week of diligent practise and you'd have it down if you have even remotely above average mechanical skill. If you don't you shouldn't be playing Riven.

I mean fast Q is not that hard, okey it is very possible to fuk it up very easy, but mechinic itself is not hard at all. I didnt even specifically learn it, I just spammed Riven in normal games, and one day I just could do it after a warm up. and yeah removing mechanics is very sad, because learning different champ is the only thing that still keeps me playing.

Riven is fine. I think it's good to have champions that force you to GIT GUD. That's why there's entirely gaming franchisees around overcoming unbalanced difficulty. Riven is just one of those champions. However... give her some magic damage PLEASE, she has a fucking RUNIC SWORD.

I'd tend to disagree with that... Though now that I think about it, might not be that bad of an idea, she gets bodied way too hard by armour as she has no pen in her kit... Though, it's important to keep in mind that cleaver is her best item, so switching dmg to magic dmg makes it way harder to stack it. Maybe making her passive do 50% magic dmg would be alright tho.

Animation cancelling between autos is used on every character, it'sl iterally just moving, so like a darius chasing someone who is walking out of auto range constantly, etc. The reason riven isn't popular is so obvious, Renekton in the meta?? lol?

@@awwitsHurts Ye, durability patch hurt that champ way too much, same thing with riven tbh, no armour pen/ reduction / %health dmg in the entire kit so gets bodied by tanks until 2-3 items, and makes it way harder to actually kill anything if they buy a single cloth armour.

@@geoDB. not exactly, stuff like Draven, Riven, Renek, Nida, Olaf, Pantheon is feast or famine since they're snowball-centric champs. But theres scaling champ that despite have been dying 2-3 times in lane, can still scale up and at one point, completely wipe the enemy team off the map if left uncheck. One big example is Tryndamere, the champ is insanely vulnerable early game and without any backup can easily fall behind, but if you leave lane and let him get those juicy waves thats been stacking up, hes gonna butcher almost anyone by the 3 item mark.

dont think nemesis ever has the mindset of like a non competitive setting. I dont think the thread makes any sense at all, but saying ye riven isnt popular because it doesnt fit in the current meta or playstyle isnt really the main factor. Most people play champs because they think theyre fun or cool and not because it is necessarily good. I think there are definetely people not picking up riven because she seems too hard, but the people that just pick champs because it looks cool dont do that. Riven's look and design arent that impressive by todays standars and you have to be alot better to win on riven than on malphite, no matter how hard the q thing actually is

The ONLY reason i stopped playing reworked Akali is because of how many mechanics they removed, the R nerf when you ONLY could cast it targeting a champion was my limit, they could have nerf her numbers to the ground and i´d still play her, but removing mechanics, nah bruh
