Once upon a time people cried out for Anakin Skywalker and some guy named Tobi to throw hands and today Death Battle have delivered. But let's see whether I think they determined a masterclass, a failure, or something inbetween.

I was kinda expecting Anakin to choke Padme and say “No. This is all that there is now.” Akin to one of the comics then Vader makes a comeback. Since Palpatine told Vader he killed her before so it’s just something he’s accepted. Like the point is that Luke is the only one who can bring him back to the light, so I don’t think the idea of Vader not wanting to break free from the illusion holds up entirely well when you take a deep dive into his character. Probably would’ve been more tragic and emotional if Obito attempted to give him that peace, but the dark side is too strong with its hold on Vader, so he has no choice but to end him with all his suffering following into the next life. Overall a great episode, despite my nerdy what if rewrite. Analysis kept me engaged and the battle was very spectacular.

I like the headcanon that's been spreading in the DB community; even on the off chance that Vader's mental fortitude was strong enough to recognize the final visions were fake and shake off a planet-wide Infinite Tsukuyomi, it's perfectly in character that he just legitimately wouldn't want to leave. Anakin had been through so much pain and hurt, and he always tried to get back to his wife. Now that he got to see her again, to feel happy one more time before his demise... he had no reason to keep fighting

@@error-4269 I might be wrong, but I kinda think that’s why the first genjutsu failed. Obito initially did it as a taunt to remind Anakin of his actions, like Palpatine has done in the past, and that rage only fuelled Vader’s hatred, and subsequently, his power as well In contrast, the Tsukuyomi at the end of Anakin seeing what he wanted most in the world (and has attempted to bring about in the comics) was just preferable to what he had to deal with in the real world. Even if he could’ve escaped, it would have been at the cost of never being able to see the love of his life again, and in that moment he didn’t have it in him to make that compromise once more But again, just headcanon

Darth Vader vs Obito Uchiha connection: -Both are fallen heroes connected to bloodlines with extraordinary powers (the Skywalker family/the Uchiha Clan) and were gifted students to honorable warriors (Obi-Wan Kenobi/Minato Namikaze) to become supernatural warriors (Jedi/ninja) and learned how to use naturally occurring spiritual energy (the Force/Chakra). They used to be close comrades to snarky mentors (Obi-Wan Kenobi/Kakashi Hatake) and had a childhood love interest (Padmé Amidala/Rin Nohara). -Both originally intended to bring peace to their universes (Vader was destined to bring balance to the Force as “the Chosen One”, while Obito wanted to become a Hokage to bring peace to the world), but after an aging and far older man (Emperor Palpatine/Madara Uchiha) recognized their actions, they would be influenced to turn to the dark side. -Both took part in large-scale wars (the Clone Wars/the Third Shinobi World War) in which they were mortally wounded (Anakin was dismembered and burnt/Obito was crushed by a boulder). After being saved by the antagonists, they abandoned their old identities as they were rebuilt as renamed, masked villains with prosthetic parts (Anakin was renamed Darth Vader and was rebuilt into a cyborg/Obito took the alias of Tobi and was outfitted with the same substance as White Zetsu). -After their fall into darkness, both took part in a massacre of their own people (Order 66/the Uchiha Clan Massacre), fought against their former comrades multiple times, and were responsible for the deaths of their mentors. I think a good way they could've had Infinite Tsukuyomi be the kill is to have Vader's life support shut off on him. They shat on the suit enough in the analysis, and Vader had his suit heavily damaged throughout the fight. You could have it where instead of Obito saying "Nevermind fuck you" and busting out the DNA sword, everything goes quiet as Vader's suit gradually beeps slower. Soon, it stops, and as Darth Vader's body collapses lifeless, we glimpse back into the illusion where Anakin is embracing Padme, happy for the first time in many years. Cutting back to reality, Obito nods as his enemy finally finds peace, maybe delivers that "You are liberated from Hell" line, and dips like he does after smushing Vader in the actual fight

My only major complaint about this episode is: Why does Obito get both the Ten Tails AND The God Tree when *both* had massive prep time required to summon and it was never anything Obito or even Madara could just pop out of their pocket. Makes the fight look cooler, sure, and while I agree that the Infinite Tsukiyomi would at least distract Vader long enough for Obito to kill him, I find it odd that they even gave Obito said Tsukiyomi. Overall this episode is bittersweet like Nemesis says. The episode is entertaining and the fight itself is really cool, but my mind cant let go the fact that Vader should have done waayyyy better. I do like Nemesis' compromise of Vader resisting the Tsukiyomi, only for Anakin to resist and this internal struggle giving Obito enough time to finish him off. I think thats pretty fair.

​@@mariobadia4553 Folks have said that it's implied that once he became one with the Ten-Tails, he was connected to it. I don't know the context but I assumed he lost the connection to the Ten-Tails due to Madara but I'm not well-versed into Naruto. Anyways, Ten-Tails is fair game as Obito possesses it, and only needed to prep for it once to keep it. So naturally, Death Battle would give it to him. I think folks are completely misunderstanding the idea of how Death Battle operates. Many characters have lost similar things (either due to irrelevancy or forgotten) or took time to acquire certain things, but that doesn't necessarily mean they're gone or can't be utilized unless the lore explicitly said so. Such as Goku using the Power Pole or Green Lantern using his other abilities outside of his Constructs or Wolverine being a Martial Artists

An ending I would have preferred would be almost entirely as is, with two changes. After showing anakin first entering the IT they should have shown him giving in, maybe through the sith eyes fading on vader or body language from anakin, cut back to the dream one more time to show that anakin got to grow old as a jedi master surrounded by the people he loves, before being reminded that this was an illusion with “you are liberated from hell” and obito ripping his soul out “find peace in the next life” Doesn’t existence erasure vader, shows how insane the IT is (which can make you live a lifetime in less than a second), and adds a bit more emotional weight to the ending. Anakin finally got his perfect life, obito finally got to end the hell of the world’s hatred, and in the end goes to further obito and vaders characterization.

@Nemesis Bloodryche being a ten tails jinchuriki would allow you to regen your eye the only reason we didn't see that is because obito never lost one as a jinchuriki and madara was trying to get his original rinnegan back. Also kakashi wasn't just using lightning it was still chakra so it makes sense how it could clash with the saber just saying. Also madara did tame the ten tails near instantly in the anime just like in the fight because he's just better than obito.

@@3eve0nI’d suggest reading the g1 prediction blog on it, it does hold a lot of information on everything the two held (though more detail was very clearly put on vaders side) and their members on vaders side gave much more convincing arguments than the ones on obitos, including ones that countered what DB would say in their conclusion.

I also think that Vader should have won but they explained it well enough so i don’t really care much. The major thing that i had an issue with is how exactly Vader lost. Firstly: Vader’s precognition was sometimes treated as non existent (like when Obito took his arm off with the truthseeking orb) Secondly: Vader can and has broken out of illusions on the scale to the infinite tsukuyomi (even in canon) i personally would have prefered if this failed, Vader kills Obito, Obito uses Izanagi to survive and kills Vader by barely outspeeding him. Other than these its probably one of my favorite episodes.

Don't forget that Vader has finally unleashed his true potential in Cannon which I actually wanted to see seeing as it is cannon, and the fact that Vader can dominate brother and sister. However reasons against them would include the fact that it's often and it was a one time thing for the full potential. The dominating brother and sister definitely should have been included in my opinion then again that just shows more force potential. He has broken out of illusions but this one was so peaceful for him that I can understand why he'd stay there. He can break out of other dimensions in comics but isn't really shown anywhere else I guess. So for me I would have liked to see some more things included for Vader, but for what they give I get it. Obitos feats feel slightly stretched in some areas, like the final illusion while definitely cool takes a lot to set up and it comes out of nowhere for me so I have a few things that bug me but nothing major enough to take away from enjoying it.

@@Vladit0r I completely understand. Funnily enough Vader would likely have a tool to drain Obito’s chakra. As the 10tails’s chakra was compared to a small planet but Darth Nihilus was able to effortlessly drain larger planets of their life energy. Vader is far stronger in raw power than Nihilus, knows about force drain as an ability from his jedi days, had more than enough opportunities to learn it, possesses both energy tutaminis and consume essence both of which are extremely similar abilities, and has been confirmed to have abilities that he never used on screen. + DB did give Hal the ability to time travel which he has never been shown doing it or implied to be able to do just because another gl could. So i think giving Vader force drain would have made sense and could have been a compelling argument for him winning. But eh…the episode was still good. I just wish they would have thrown Vader a bone after pretty much feeding him to Dr Doom.

I'm not the only one who saw this scene as so much more wholesome. the infinite Tsukuyomi puts the one captured in it into a perfect dream. one where it's exactly how he would want it. and yes while you can resist against it... it will continuously try to soothe you into the dream. to become at peace in said dream. and while yes Vader would absolutely try to fight against it. Padme would be the moment he loses to it. he loves her and a lot of his rage is over her death. seeing her alive and still caring about him would absolutely cause him to quickly lose his anger ( not without maybe killing a few people in said dream. ) edit: I forgot to mention that I do agree the ending could have been handled better but the ending works for what it is. if he can resist than he would fight ( more or less ) and would have to be killed. if he can't resist have him enter the dream and his body just get covered by the tree as a power source ( which does happen in the anime. ) and have it end with Anakin walking away with Padme and obito sighing before flying away. and with the both happy and sad moment. all he would really need is a simple sigh. a sigh can be seen in many ways. annoyance, relief, grieve and a pained sigh could be seen with the grieve while a saddened sigh ( which would be best here. ) can portray exactly what obito could feel. saddened that vader has to die but relieved that he gave him a peaceful end.

Genjustus in Naruto have warped perception of time before so that someone lived a full life in a second, so I like to think Vader did in fact get to experience a full life and passed on peacefully with Obito just destroying his physical body; and on a similar note, I think the TSO weapons only destroy soul matter if the soul is exposed in some kind of spiritual way; just killing someone normally with one wouldn't destroy the soul.

​@@jayhyperstarx6113Same, as I have been saying, if the analysis for both used a single version of each character (mainly canon) the discussions wouldn't have been as hard as they are rn. Mostly thanks to Legends power scaling and some of the crazier feats they've both pulled. This was an episode that I really liked (the ending quite literally touched my heart), but the scaling used for both characters kind of made people go rampant on this match. Overall, my style of doing versus is most of a game way, where I sit on the middle in terms of a characters power scaling and listen to both sides arguments to learn more of a character that otherwise I wouldn't see as deeply. It's sad how the increasing toxicity of these fandoms ruin a good experience, as something that is a discussion becomes a heated debate more akin to a war. This is kind of the reason I just settle on universes with more grounded scalings or just avoid universes like Naruto and Dragon Ball altogether, the debates they present just stopped being fun and are literal wars on who's better or who wins.

I used to be one of the guys who went hard on a vs debate but I went for a more chill approach as time went on. After all, each one has a different opinion, we can disagree with it yes, but not disrespect it or disrespect who gives their opinion. I'm just thankful that not everyone is like this and there is people who indeed, have passion for this kind of thing (it warms my heart seeing people just converse things out, it's really satisfying to read) and will be chill about different opinions and offer some points to the argument given. YES. VS debating is ultimately a game and it’s rules are subjectively decided by the people playing it. It’s purpose is to determine who makes a more convincing argument, not who is “objectively” correct. There are objective elements in vs debating, but the ultimate results are marred by far too many subjective elements to be considered objective overall. I think the vs community has a lot of egotistical, narcissistic people who unfortunately care less about having fun and more about making themselves feel intellectually superior to everyone else at any cost. Fortunately, there are plenty of people who aren’t like that, and I’m glad at least some people are calling it out for the damage it’s doing to these fanbases. People really need to learn that you don’t need to force everyone to agree with you to have a valid opinion. Some questions can have different, conflicting, yet equally valid answers.

With this episode in particular I feel that the main issue was the analysis and scaling itself, they used Composites for both and their arsenals weren't used at their fullest or had some mistakes. Overall, I feel like if they used Canon Vader vs Canon Obito no one would've complained aside from those who didn't like the result or that noted a few mistakes here and there, but alas, this is what we got and the discussions boiled harder than Godzilla swimming through Magma. This was a good episode, but the analysis and scaling needed some work or deciding on a single version of each character.

I definitely think Death Battle struggles with handling Star Wars materials and I can completely sympathize with the irritation of them not being able to commit to a single version of the character. It makes it a lot harder to follow their reasoning when they pick and choose from two incongruent continuities with little rhyme or reason. They’ve had that problem for a while and I’ll be right there with you in hoping they can be a clearer in their methods going forwards. As far as mistakes go, they’ve done that plenty in the past and I’m not going to give anyone flack for getting agitated at seeing something they like be blatantly misrepresented, so long as it isn’t too overblown.

I do agree, I was in the camp where I was bombarded by the Vader , I personally love both characters, but I thought Obito would win. The wait for this battle was really rough, and I felt like I was bad for thinking Obito could even win. Obito is my second or third favorite Naruto character, and Vader is one of my favorite Starwars characters, so I thought the battle, including the fight, holy crap I loved the fight so much! My issue is that I think Obito's eye coming back made sense he could regenerate thanks to the Ten Tails, I find it cute that he regenerated a Sharingan who knows if that's his Kamui Sharingan. I was happy they left out Izanami, it would mean Obito would have to choose one of his eyes to sacrifice to cast, where in the fight Vader crushes his Sharingan, personally I think it's a bit more crazy. (Obito using his Suck in Kamui to cause a Typhoon infront of Vader kinda annoyed me thought, like his Sharingan was glowing, he was using it, but it was a tornado failing to push Vader away when his Kamui doesn't do that? Idk) I do agree with most of what you said, I think Vader taking Juubito's limb would be insane. My only disagreement, is that I don't know at all where it's said the sword of Nunoboko takes away souls, I agree it is made of TSO's, but in the anime, Obito used it against Naruto and Sasuke, never saying it destroys or takes souls. On a funny thought, my head cannon is the Infinite Tsukuyomi. In the anime, another Uchiha named Itachi's Sharingan gave him Tsukuyomi, a Genjutsu that transports his foe into a mind space where Itachi controls time, in the anime it was used to put Kakashi into 72 hours of continuous torture for only a second. In the cannon light novels, Itachi used Tsukuyomi to put his girlfriend into a world where she and Itachi lived 70 years together, her perfect dream. So my headcannon is that the Infinite Tsukuyomi, besides hitting everything on that planet, even animals, putting them into their perfect dream world, where any desire they wish happens, such as for Anakin, being able to see Padmè again, but in the anime what we see is every character is living a life's worth of time, so I think once Obito used the Infinite Tsukuyomi, it trapped Anakin in his perfect world forever, even in death he's in that dream with Padmè. That makes me happy personally. Also, to anyone mad, the Infinite Tsukuyomi can be used by a Ten Tails Jinchuriki. Even though Madara used it, Obito said he was going to be distracted. I loved the fight, its the first one in so long I honestly enjoyed, I dont care about x-men though, and my partner said Phoenix wipes Raven...so I'm not too excited for the next one. So I personally like the fight overall, but I just don’t like the ending. This is ultimately for two reasons. One, I just personally disagree with the outcome and I’m trying to prevent that from affecting my overall opinion, but my preferred character has lost the last four death battles. Second, I just don’t like the killing blow. I think it would be out of character for Vader to “accept” that vision and just stand there to die. I would at least want him to put up one last effort to break free.

Vader tried to kill himself when an illusion of Padme left him in Legends and even in Canon he tried to ressurect Padme and let a rebel who looked like her live because of the resemblance. His test on Mustafar was because Padme's memory being brought up was dulling his hatred, it's not THAT OOC.

I’ll note some things for this episode. 1) I wasn’t looking forward to it cuz of the fans, yeah I’m sorry that y’had to endure that two-week hell. But I liked it too. I’m sad you couldn’t enjoy the waiting period as much as possible. 2) I’ll say Obito’s was more of a nice kill. Think aboutmit like this- Obito can see Vader’s gone through a lot. He feels similar to him in a way. So, what if the final blow was a mercy kill? A blind-handed act of mercy to ensure Anakin didn’t have to suffer with living anymore? It’s a possibility given the final quote and remnants of humanity through the lost limbs. Even with the pose of anger and the earlier genjutsu scene with Pademin I think it was? Either way, that’s how I see it- a mercy kill. Stuck in a paradise with a lovely dream, all the while the final blow isn’t even painful. 3) Yeah I do agree it’s a fun episode, not perfect but still enjoyable.

I just have my biggest gripe in any Star Wars character vs almost any other franchise. "The force is everywhere thus they have unlimited power and thus never runs out" Uh huh then why are they constantly seeking MORE power? Cause they can't just use it all. Also the biggest thing I see them gloss over is. Yes they can move moons. Yes they can do these things. But when they do, they always look like they're gonna pop a stroke while their arms charge a titan's vibrator while focusing on a puzzle in an illusion picture. It's quite hard to take them seriously when they can "move at light speed or faster" but also can't even table flip without giving a Shakespeare performance, which takes all their physical and mental focus. Meaning anybody who can simply think their powers out loud almost automatically win. Cause as soon as either Vader, Obi or Yoda use their powers, they're vulnerable. And their reaction when doing something is not light speed and they always take time to stop, recover for a moment, shift focus then act again. They also has to take it slow. Obito or any other powerful guy just flick their finger and stuff happens. Though I really don't like how they finished the fight with the infinite moon technique. That's like Vader finishing a fight by launching the Death Star and flying away.

Even though CU vs DB is the community’s baby this season, this is my favorite episode. I love almost everything about it. My only real complaints was the weird teleporting punches. I especially loved how this battle had people going borderline 50/50 on the victor and it was a surprisingly nice experience. I also didn’t have much problem with toxicity from either side despite hearing about it a fair bit. I also just have more stake in these characters than CU vs DB. Loved it, 10/10 to me.

These are two mostly silent protagonists with a wide array of abilities. There’s not much in the way of character. I agree with the rest though. The animation was a bit jank and it lacked a lot of impact and generally didn’t have as much ability matching as I’d like. Fireborn added to the atmosphere for me though.

honestly this is a pain vs obito fight and kamui is really just a broken ablity . obito could have used izanami and ended the fight a few seconds in if he wanted to. kamui makes it so he could phase for at least 3 minutes so most physical abilities don’t do much and even without that the sharingon alone would give obito the advantage. i think orange mask would lose but other versions wash vader

The Infinite Tsukuyomi operates on a scale far beyond anything Vader's ever seen, and affected foes who can similarly resist mental attacks, so resistance to those types of attacks alone is not sufficient to beat the Infinite Tsukuyomi. Plus, Vader has had a history of giving into similar temptations before, often taking an extensive amount of time to actually get past those mental attacks (one such instance took _weeks_ to break out of), so the Infinite Tsukuyomi, even if Vader could escape from it (though he probably wouldn't _want_ to since it the IT lets the victim experience all of their innermost desires), it would undoubtedly keep him still long enough for a deathblow from the TSBs.

There are definitely several strengths for both characters that were more or less ignored, but the battle was alot of fun to watch and ultimately that's what matters to me the most.

One thing i liked from the Vader analysis is the offhand comment on how Vader is basically horror movie villain with an army. Incredibly based and got a snicker out of me.

This episode has truly cemented itself to me that the death battle community is just really bad when the character they think would win loses, cause from music to animation to analysis this is in my opinion a top tier death battle. But just because "the guy with a bigger number lost" and "Naruto won again" its apparently an objectively bad episode and nothing else about it matters actually.

I totally agree with the fact that people shouldn’t be hating, because this episode wasn’t originally supposed to happen until devilartamis requested this MU to db and only happened because one of db’s writers also requested it. Let’s not forget that Obito’s body had hashirama’s cells in it before he went 10-tails on the side that holds his sharingan. Even if he couldn’t repair the eye, he could likely heal the damage

So in Naruto Obito sword can destroy souls but to do that Yin-Yang release must be added. According to Speedy, (one of the researchers), Obito didn’t add Yin-Yang to the sword at the end.

I see the ending this way; My understanding is that in the dream time moves differently than in reality, so the killing blow could be neigh instant while the dream feels like hours or even days. It also respects Vader's level of power. I see the ending as "Vader COULD fight through the dream, but he chooses to embrace it in his guilt, and this becomes his final moment, embracing his loved one before being sent to the afterlife with her. Obito recognizing Vader's power and not hesitating to take a decisive killing blow but to wish him well.
