This is 'Ace Of Spades' for the 21st century! 🤘🤘If I had to name my 3 favourite all-female Japanese Rock and Metal bands, it would be Band-Maid, Nemophila and Lovebites. I just checked your reactions and was amazed you haven't seen the incredibly awesome Metal maestros Lovebites so gotta recommend them to you (and you will love their outfits!). Nemophila make great music videos but they kill it live too - their live mv of Revive is superb.

Welcome to Nemophila, my favorite of the Japanese bands. Formed in 2019 when lead vocalist ,Mayu, needed a backing band for a live session. She called her former classmate, bassist Hariguchi-san. They found Tamu Murata, a highly in demand session drummer. And guitarists Saki (red and black dress) and Hazuki. Named after a flower because they are all female. A nemophila is a blue and white 5 petal flower, native primarily to the American west. Saki decided to leave the band in early 2024, they are continuing as a 4 piece, with solos more of guitar/bass, and with Mayu playing some guitar. 3 full albums with Saki, and a 4th on the way, the first as a 4 piece. "Revive" is the title track to the 2021 1st album. Their 1st ever single was "Oiran". Lead single to the upcoming album is "G.O.D." Btw, there is only 1 "i" in the band's name, Nemoph-i-l-a.

Nemophila - "baby blue eyes" flower, "Rurikarakusa" in Japanese; grows in N-America and is appreciated in Japan (see "Hitachi Seaside Park"). The band was formed in 2019, originally as a "session" brought together by... Mayu - the vocalist (ex- Lipstick band); Haraguchi-san - (ex- HöLDERLINS band) bass, backing vocals, was Mayu's friend and colleague from Music College; Tamu Murata - drums, backing vocals, one the most respected session musician in Japan (countless bands), with also her own original carrier; she's also the wife of Akira Yamaoka, musician/composer, known especially for his videogames OSTs, in particular for "Silent Hill"; Saki (ex - "Mary's Blood" band for a decade, "Destrose", and others), she's a "young sacred monster" in J-metal) guitar, backing vocals, and... Hazuki (KOIAI "Dark Indigo" / Li-sa-X, Disqualia bands) - guitar, backing vocals; both, Saki and Hazuki have a lot of experience. Unfortunately, Saki left the band in march 2024, after the Budokan concert, thinking that her contribution was enough after more than 4-5 years, pursuing her - successful - solo carrier, and then she became a member of Like〜an〜Angel band. The band continues in the 4 members form, with Mayu starting to add guitar bits while Haraguchi-san's bass, and Hazuki's guitar becomes more prominent. So at least you got 38 out of 49. PS - Nemophila is "a box of chocolate, never know what to expect" from them. Best band for me.

Just to clarify, BABYMETAL is an actual group, not a genre. Their genre is "kawaii metal." Nemophila is not kawaii metal, but most of their music is in the nu metal or metalcore genres, so really the only thing Nemophila has in common with the ladies of BABYMETAL is that they are female, metal, and Japanese.

Nightwish has always been my number one and NEMOPHILA is close second for many years... and if you like symphonic metal, you might heard of HAGGARD, a band from Germany but if you haven't, try listen to Awaking The Centuries (live in Wacken tend to be a safe bet -copyright wise-). Unlike Nightwish that engaged with many orchestras, HAGGARD is a band that itself consists of whole orchestra as the band members.

Nemophila, just like LOVEBITES or Band Maid, or Hagane or ASTERISM or SOKONINARU, etc... is an organic group that came together through affinities between "Real" female musicians, while on the contrary, Baby Metal is the product of an industrial-musical management, an "Idol band"... Historically, it is certain however, that Baby Metal allowed the opening to the world of the window on the Japanese rock movement and more particularly to the enormous and fantastic wave of Japanese female rock. Oh other amazing bands from Japan? LOVEBITES, BABYMETAL, HAGANE, HANABIE for a starter and of course the grandmothers of the all female metal wonder.. Show-Ya. Then you have alternative idol units like Broken By The Scream and Passcode as example. Male bands. Galneryus adn Shiver of Frontier is just a start. If You fare to go in to the route of Visual Kei. Versailles, Xanvala and Jiluka is good starters. Live from Sweden.
