Babymetal has said that their live performances are their strong suit. They've also said that a focus of theirs is to make the crowd part of the performance. They've built a following for whom going to a concert is an experience, not just a concert. They took the showmanship aspect of Metal and made it their own.

I've been to a number of these shows in Japan and the atmosphere is indescribable. It's the most electric and exhilarating experience you can have at a concert. Babymetal live in Japan is on a level of intensity unlike any other.

Babymetal is the closest thing ever created to an authentic Metal Opera (an organization like an opera company). It’s something to be seen, preferably live, never just listened to. A true audiovisual spectacle, the artists involved, from the singers to the musicians, give 100% all the time, this level of professionalism should be followed by most rock/metal bands. It’s outstanding. t's impressive how much energy is delivered in the band's 60-minute show-there's nothing more youthful or more rock than this. If this isn't heavy metal, nothing is

Just caught BM's gig in Singapore last week, where they brought back Headbanger (but had dropped it for their other Southeast Asian shows as well as their European tour back in June). Just imagine how strong BM's current setlist is to shelve a powerful song, & how delightful the audience was whenever they revived it. Fingers crossed for their upcoming South & North American tour legs. Then again, this is a very early song (their 4th ever, from 2012 when the girls were only 12-14). BM would switch to a live band soon after, featuring the inaugural Kamis (the first two I,D,Z Legend shows) before the storied "East" Kami band took over (I,D,Z Legend "Z") from Feb 2013 onwards. By then, the fans had already worked out their participation bits (see the 2012 fancams). In response, BM would lengthen the instrumental section, had Moa & Yui spray the crowd with CO2 fog guns at Legend "1997" (Dec 2013), & in subsequent years milking the "we're not worthy" obeisance bowing to the max. But what made Headbanger a particular special song was celebrating it with the fans to mark each BM member's life milestones. The original lyrics are about a girl attending her first metal concert on her 15th birthday (end of compulsory education), realizing it marked the passing of childhood, & was determined to make it a memorable night. As such, certain BM live performances would carry extra meaning: 1. I,D,Z ~ Legend "D" (Dec 2012) at Akasaka BLITZ during Su's actual 15th birthday. The Babybones dancers would lift her up high in mid-song. 2. Legend "1997" (Dec 2013) at Budokan just before Su's 16th to a bigger crowd (10,000). Featuring MoiMoi with the fog guns. 3. Legend "Y" AKA "Yuibanger" (Jul 2014) at La Cigale, France to belatedly mark Yui's 15th as BM started their European leg of their World Tour that year. She took over the mike to sing the second half of the song. Fancam only. 4. Legend "M" (Jul 2014) at Colonge, Germany a few days later & ahead of Moa's 15th. She took over the mike to sing the second half. Audio fancam only. 5. Legend S Baptism XX at Hiroshima Green Arena (Dec 2017) ahead of Su's 20th (coming of age), with the live lyrics changed from "ichigo no yoru o" (special night of my 15th) to "hatachi no yoru o" (my 20th). Unfortunately, Su's homecoming was marred by Yui's sudden withdrawal (forcing the duo to perform by themselves all show) &, compounded by her controversial departure, the segment is available on disc but absent online due to lingering sensitivities. Sadly overlooked & undiscovered by new fans ever since. 6. Legend M AKA "Moabanger" (Jul 2019) at Portmesse Nagoya days after Moa's 20th. She took over the mike to sing the second half (with the changed lyrics) at her hometown. Clip went viral, & is arguably the most famous version (over the Legend 1997 version). 7. Legend MM AKA "Momobanger" (Mar 2024) at Yokohama Arena when Momo turned 20 between the two shows, & where she was officially promoted to BM full-timer. She took over the mike to sing the second half (with the changed lyrics) at her hometown. Since then, Headbanger seems to have been de-prioritized live despite its immense popularity. Also, Japan culture apparently doesn't celebrate life milestones again until age 60 (eg. nothing was organized for Su & Moa for their 25th birthdays in 2022 & 2024) &, if anything, being thirtysomething is supposedly 'yakudoshi' (unlucky) for women according to their folk beliefs.
@Wolfpack944875 ай бұрын
A little clarification: Momo did it on the LAST day she was 20 years old. The next day she became 21. She missed her 20th birthday, as she became a full member roughly a month after her 20th birthday, the announcement was given at the "BABYMETAL Begins - Black Night" concert, 1st of April, 2023. Fans worldwide were constantly nagging, that she has to do "Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!" as long as she is 20 years old, because it is a tradition, and the forms must be obeyed 🤣 She did it, and she gave us a hell of a performance!

They performed a show like this in 2019 in Los Angeles with the same level of audience engagement. If you want to see some cool ones, there are the "Legend 1997 Apocalypse" for Su-Metal's 16th Birthday, "Legend M" MoaMetal Version 20th Birthday, and "Legend MM" MomoMetal version 21st Birthday. In the Moa and Momo Versions, the names girls take over the lead of the song and add their own flair to. In Legend MM, MomoMetal unleashes her growls.

All hail and bow down to queen Su! 😆 Great reaction! As you mentioned, this was a compilation of many concerts ranging from 2013 - 2020. Majority of them are in Japan, but the raised diamond stage, when you paused to look up the lyrics, was from the LA Forum in the US (2020). The lyrics speaks about a girl's 1st rock show on the special night of her 15th. She realizes that this moment of exhiliartion will soon end, and etches that moment in her heart for ever. Babymetal also have done special birthday performances of Headbanger for Yui and Moa for their 15th birthdays, Moa for her 20th birthday, and most recently, new 3rd member Momoko's 21st birthday show (Mar 2024) where they take lead. Momo's version (Momobanger) was epic as she let out an insane growl/harsh vocals. Y'all should check that one out! (Headbanger / Momobanger from Legend MM show). 🤘🦊

Welcome back again.🦊Good reaction - shame you missed out on seeing just one uninterrupted performance (eg live at Legend 1997 that was from December 2013 and it was Su-metal's 16th birthday celebration Gans Tomas and abr metal both have high quality videos for that performance that are easy to find). This compilation video used clips from so many different concerts spanning maybe 7 or 8 years or more - as you noticed with all the different stages and the changes of costume. I believe all the concerts used and the ones where the audio came from are listed in the description. 'Headbanger' was recorded early in 2012, it predates both 'Megitsune' and 'Gimme Chocolate' by quite a long time. Well done with your understanding of the lyrics, you were very nearly there. 'Headbanger' is about a girl going to her first concert on her 15th birthday, but it is a coming of age thing too. 15 is significant in Japan as compulsory education also ends, so the girl is realising life will never be the same. She is having to grow up, she will no longer be considered just a child and her first 15 years passed so quickly, so she etching this special night into her heart so she will never forget. There are special versions of 'Headbanger' from other special occasions as well. At concerts on or near their own 15th birthdays in 2014 Yui (in Paris) and Moa (in Cologne) took over lead vocals for 'Headbanger' half way through when Su handed them the mic and stand - she took their place in the choreo. Only fancam videos exist for those performances. The same thing happened in 2019 at the Legend M concert celebrating Moametal's 20th birthday (20 is (or was) the official age of majority in Japan). Moa once again took over lead vocals after Su handed her the mic and stand - and the lyrics were changed to "...this special night of my 20th...". Most recently in March this year at the Legend MM concerts celebrating Momometal's 21st birthday we got her version on the day before her 21st (she was not an official member the year before so she did it to mark the last day when she was still 20). All the concerts in this compilation were in Japan, but at BABYMETAL's own concerts around the world their crowds are just as involved (although possibly a little less disciplined than the Japanese crowds). On the lack of phones - in Japan you are not allowed to film the concerts, if you are seen holding up your mobile phone you will be thrown out. I think that leads to a much better atmosphere with people living in the moment, actually enjoying the experience, watching the performance, joining in with the crowd chants, jumping, moshing or whatever .... just like we used to before we all had phones and everybody felt the need to record every moment of their lives. Your previous reactions were to official videos, so this is the first time you have seen or heard the Kami Band, their live band who have been ever present since early 2014 and they were playing for the encores in some shows from as early as 2012. The Kami Band of the East last appeared in January 2023, the Kami Band of the West (American musicians) have supported BABYMETAL on the lengthier foreign tours since 2019 and have been ever present for all concerts since April 2023. I'm sure you will get lots of suggestions for more songs to react to - I will suggest one that will completely surprise you, it is very different to the BABYMETAL songs you have seen so far - it is also a relatively new song. Try 'Monochrome' live at the PIA Arena April 2023. For The Fox God channel has that with English subtitles.

Baby Metal is a dish best served LIVE !!!!! The best single video of this song is from 2013's Legend 1997 Apocalypse, which occurred the day after Su's 16th birthday and 1997 is the year of her birth. It's still the single best live performance of "Headbanger" to date. As was mentioned in the comments below, there are some good versions of the video with 4K and HQ sound and they're easy to find. You should watch it, even if it's just for your own edification. And the bowing down is not to the mike, but to Queen Su, who surveys her loyal subjects, lol. Another great video, if you haven't already done it, is "Road of Resistance - Live in Japan" from a 2015 concert at Saitama Super Arena. It's probably the most majestic live video Baby Metal has done, with an amazing performance by the crowd. Baby Metal has a truly global fanbase on pretty much every continent. I saw them for the first time on 09/15/2023 at the Hammerstein Ballroom in NYC and it was an epic experience. I'm glad I went for the balcony seats because I would never have survived the floor, lol. I'm 77 and have been following rock since seeing Joey Dee and The Starlighters do "The Peppermint Twist" in 1961 in a social club in Hoboken, New Jersey. I rediscovered Japanese music about 7 years ago after seeing a Wagakki Band video on Facebook, which led to Baby Metal, Band Maid, SCANDAL, Lovebites, Nemophila, Girlfriend, Stereopony, Shonen Knife, Doll$Box and a host of others. The best music is coming out of Asia right now, with the bulk coming from Japan. I really enjoy your reactions and you do a great job. I don't know if it's your bag, but Japan has a fantastic jazz/funk scene, with groups like Tokyo Groove Jyoshi, The Jazz Avengers, The Sax Triplets, Uko Saxy, Foxy and a number of great individual artists.

Whoever edited this video must be a fan of Yui Metal. She's the one of the original 3 singers/performers who left the band. There isn't a single frame focused on any of the backup performers, (Who took her place until she was officially replaced). All of the video shots only do a group shot, or focused on Sue Metal or Moa Metal in the parts after Yui Metal had left the group. Which makes sense, since there is a large following in the fanbase that still worships (for lack of a better term) Yui Metal's time with the band.

You didn't quite let it finish - there one more thing they do or you don't have the complete video.
I enjoy that they've given each member of the band a version of this song

There are several more versions of this song worth reacting to... 1. Headbanger Night of 15 Mix with Ave Marie Intro from Legend 1997 - This was the show opener and qas a full-on J-Pop/EDM remix with backing track vocals (which will be explained why if you do react to it). 2. Yuibanger - only fan-cam footage available. Yuimetal sings lead the second half for her 15th birthday. 3. Moabanger from the Legend M 2019 concert - Moametal sings lead second half for her 20th birthday. 4. Momobanger from Legend MM 2024 concert - Momometal takes lead for the last night of her 20th before 21st birthday (and she definitely makes it her own!). Each girl has her own super power.... Su's lethal metal death glare, which you witnessed during the breakdown here. Moa's death smirk Momo's fangs And Yui....well...she would just stare into your soul. Watch some old interviews...you'll see it. 😶

Does babymetals band have a name or are they just in the babymetal name cause they frigging rock
@stevechevy33825 ай бұрын
The Band is called the Kamiband. Stage band only. Which I did find weird since they're some of the best session players in Japan. Today they tour with what folks call Kamiband West or West Kamiband. Made of western musicians. Mostly due to scheduling conflicts they had to add them on. Whether it's the East Kamiband or West Kamiband the skill and talent level remain high.

Why do compilations of concerts exist? The one shots of each concert on their own is a million times better

Welcome back to the Foxhole guys, it's been a while. Unfortunately you fall under a live compilation that don't show the real epicness of this special song when performing live. Do yourself a favor and watch live at Legend 1997 (2013) which is an original clip from just one special show in Japan. They got several special versions since this song is about a girl going to her first metal concert when celebrating her 15 yo. Hopefully next time you won't fall on a live compilation. Btw the disclaimer you put in the beginning it's useless for music outside of your country, if they wanna block it they will and got the right to do it. They already finished the Asian Tour and made the fans rock with this song on certain live shows, next October they will start the South America Tour as part of the Knotfest and I can't wait for it. Anyway keep enjoying more BM songs and see you next time 🦊🤘🔥

BABYMETAL crowds all over the world connect with the ladies and their Kami Band. For a reason 😉The Japanese crowds are just GOD level, that´s the small difference 🤣 I experienced a rather small concert in Germany (4k capacity venue), even there the crowd went wild, and for "Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!" the bowing was there, too. Not the WHOLE crowd, tho, people here need some more Japanese stimulation to fully go with the experience, I believe (too obsessed with filming on their mobiles, maybe). They aren´t able to transform the mandatory "Wall Of Death" for "Road Of Resistance" into a fully working "Circle Pit" on the fly, too. The Japanese crowds do this all the time 😉 OTOH, for "Megitsune" the German crowd did a truly giant "row boat" (the British do that regularly, too!), a thing you won´t see happening in Japan. I bet the ladies love to watch those "Row Boats" while they perform. Some things left for cultural exchange, I think 😄 Besides that, BABYMETAL live (!) is AWESOME. I was introduced to them with this song. In my case it was the live (!) performance at the "Legend 1997 Apocalypse" concert. MUCH more impressive than any compilation. Even more so, if you watch the performances from other concerts. Each one hits different, but only if you enjoy the whole, uninterrupted performance. Not to mention the special "20th birthday" renditions, done by Moametal and Momometal. They sang the second half of the song on their own. Moametal´s version is impressive as hell (she is an amazing singer with a beautiful voice, and she screams very well!), and Momometal´s version is the most awesome performance of the song, IMHO. She is a hell of a performer! Both are worth another reaction 😉 Both are available in reactable form on the "For The Fox God" channel.

There are a lot of videos that are compilation videos especially for KPOP songs were they combine several performances and the editing is always outstanding.

Japanese culture is all about conformity, even in their heavy metal scene. When they do anything, they all do it together, at the same time. I wish Babymetal got that kind of crowd control in the West, but over here, it's like herding cats. Even if the crowd loves them, we're too resistant to unify like that.

This song is about a young girls first experience with heavy metal breaking her metal virginity and turning into a head banger, this is a compilation video which is ok but you don’t get the full show of what it’s really like in the performance
