Great review on a high-value sub as usual from your channel! One thing of note about sealed vs reflex (ported in this case) is that REL chose a reflex system in their music-focused sub line like the T7x. REL went one step further and chose a passive radiator vs a port which is a 5th order slope and has even more group delay than a port. It made me question a few things. I think the focus was a lighter cone and voice coil which would have a higher resonant frequency and required help from a reflex design. I suppose they found that lighter moving mass made more difference than the spring restoring force and lower group delay of the sealed/acoustic suspension design.
@NemoPropaganda
@NemoPropaganda Жыл бұрын
REL takes a different approach to PR subs, personally I just consider them sealed subs as most PR subs are a little sloppy and sound more like large vented subs while REL's PR subs are tight, quick, and extremely detailed.

Awesome review, always love your content! 2 questions for you! 1) How does this compare to the Monolith M-12? I'm debating between the two. Had an M-10 that was too small for my space but it packed a serious punch. 2) Audioholics claims it's appropriate for a 3-5000 cu ft room. Mine's at 4500 cu ft, think the PB-1000 Pro is sufficient until I add a 2nd sub?

@NemoPropaganda Hi ! In my small room, the size would fit either the PB 1000 Pro or the SB 3000. For Home cinema (I hardly listen to music), what do you recommend, given your experience of listening to both subwoofers? Thank you !
@NemoPropaganda
@NemoPropaganda 5 ай бұрын
Why not PB2000 Pro vs SB3000 since they are the same price? Either way I think SB3000 is great if you need to save on space and want a smaller sub and while it can technically play a little louder than the PB1000 Pro I would rather have a single PB1000 Pro for cinema instead of 1 SB3000. For sure PB2000 Pro also. I like both SB and PB ranges but I feel PB sounds more effortless in a theater setting. They are very popular so try to demo one if you can but yeah I would go for PB1000 pro for sure.

@@NemoPropaganda Thanks for the answer ! Unfortunately, the PB 2000 Pro does not fit in any way due to the furniture. Of all the subwoofers from the SVS company, only SB 3000 and SB 4000 fit. SVS SB 4000 Pro owner, not entirely disappointed, but responding to Rythmik and REL T/7x comments, later of both just exhibit (much) higher quality bass for music and theater applications. SVS app however can’t be beat, just depends on your needs. YMMV.

Hey Nemo, Many vented subs are more than capable of accurate bass, while also producing deep, warm, thick, juicy low end. My subs are no longer in production. I run a pair of Klipsch Synergy Sub 12s.They are fast enough to produce nuanced, tight, clean bass and on paper they go down to 24hz. I have also tested them with a frequency sweep and discovered that they technically didn't stop moving until 5hz. Often, speed and accuracy have a lot to do with proper setup and calibration.. BTW smoothly flared ports do affect performance by reducing port noise, like chuffing!
@NemoPropaganda
@NemoPropaganda Жыл бұрын
I'm very familiar with the characteristics of vented & sealed subs, I don't think many people have heard as many as I have. Anyway, You love what you got, that's great. I am famliar with the Synergy sub, I believe it was a WireCutter favorite back in the day. Your vented sub moving at 5hz is because its in free-air well past the port tuning freq, I would recommend you not repeat that experiment as the limiter is the only thing keeping the sub alive at that point.
@addonisryan
@addonisryan Жыл бұрын
@@NemoPropaganda It was a 1 time test, tosee what the sub was ultimately capable of. I don't care about stuff below 20hz anyway since we can't hear that low.I recently auditioned the pb1000 pro and ithe sb1000 at Best buy and wasn't impressed but if you like it that's fine.I commented on your review of vented sub characteristics because you seemed to generalize a bit, no hate or anthing like that, it just seeemed that you were a bit oo general when speaking on vented box subwoofers.
@NemoPropaganda
@NemoPropaganda Жыл бұрын
@@addonisryan yeah, store demo doesn't really do most subs justice, even amazing subs like REL won't sound great at best buy. I do my best to say things like "genearlly speaking" or "usually" or "often times" when making generalized statements but my videos are filmed in a single take and without a script so it's not going to be perfect. I do stand behind what I said though. Unless we're talking about Rythmik most sealed subs will play tighter and with better transients than their vented coutnerparts.

A few years back you favorably reviewed the SVS SB3000. How do you think the SB3000 stacks up to the PB-1000 Pro? Obviously the PB1000 Pro will reach lower than the SB3000, which is no slouch in that area but in terms of Home Theater use I'd be curious to know what you think. The reason for asking is that I'm looking at both subs and have had extensive conversations with the SVS guys. After I sent them a rough diagram of my open living room with a 5.1.4 system they felt that the SB3000 would be a better choice and that it would be able to push a substantial volume of air into the room. Either sub would be placed in the right corner of the short wall where my AV stand is located. It's the only possible placement which the SVS folks took into account along with air cubic feet. I've had sealed and ported subs and while, sometimes, there are discernable differences, other times not so much. I've heard both subs at friend's homes and while the PB-1000 Pro can shake the walls, the SB3000 seemed to create a "livelier" overall sound. So, again, any light that you can shed would be appreciated.
@NemoPropaganda
@NemoPropaganda Жыл бұрын
Hi Lewie, it sounds like you are leaning towards the SB3000, personal taste is a big factor here as both subs are great just different. I don't think you can go wrong either way. The PB1000 Pro will be more effortless in the lower frequencies while the SB3000 trades some of that for a tighter sound that is more tactile. Based on what you've wrote it sounds like you may prefer that slight trade off, so I say go for the SB3000 :)

@@NemoPropaganda Thanks brother. My buddy with the Sb3000 has an SVS Prime speaker system while I have an RSL system/SVS system (cg23-cg25-cg23 front array, cg3 Surrounds and SVS Prime Elevations as F/R Heights) . I think that the 3000 will play well with my rig so I'm going to pull the trigger on one and, given the generous SVS return policy, it's risk free. Keep up the good work.

@@felixlaboy1453 I'll give you a sneak peak for now, the RSL is substantially larger, check its measurements and make sure you can accomodate such a large sub, if you can it's very capable and will have more output than the PB1000 pro but if its too big then go for the pb1000 pro. I'm not 100% sure yet but I think it makes the most sense to pick one over the other with phsyical size being the primary factor as they both have some unique features. RSL has high pass built in which makes setup easy as hell, SVS has a cell phone app which is really cool, both have killer output/extension for their size, one is just a lot bigger and will play a lot louder.

Nemo - Awesome review, but what else would the audio world expect from you at this point? I consider myself extremely lucky to own, have the space and spousal approval for a bigger ported Rythmik, but thought this review was very helpful for folks looking for subs in this price and size range. At that price (even after the increase), seems like a great value that would meet the needs of a lot of folks. Did you happen to listen to it or test it with the ports plugged? And if so, how did it compare to the sealed version? Also, thanks for the bass tracks mentioned in the video... realized after the review, that you have these and many more on the Nemo discord, but these tracks are freaking awesome and it prompted me to look closer at the Discord recommendations. Thanks for all you do for the basshead community!

Not on this particular model but my experience with plugging the ports on a vented sub is it helps tighten things up a bit at the expense of some low end authroity vented subs are known for but it doesn't make them sound like sealed subs because the cabinet is still very large. Basically to me the difference is small but some may feel differently. Either way its nice for the option to be there as users can experiment and find what they like but generally I've found I like my vented subs to stay vented.

i get what you mean, the app is mostly benificial for mixed use, like if you game, listen to music, and do theater all on the same system and your AVR is more on the basic side I can see the user definable profiles being helpful but aside from that or owning multiple speakers you rotate once your sub is setup you shouldn't really need to make any more changes if its a single use system.
