Timely review, just started getting a 2Ch system together with main priority being music but will get plenty of use with TV too (but by far second priority to music playback). Picked up the Focal Aria 906 and stands for half price, getting the Lyngdorf TDAI-1120 and just deciding on sub now. Stuck between this and the SB-2000 Pro, room is 5.4m X 4.2 so I think the SB-1000 Pro is sufficient (corner placement the only option, so some room gain to be had).

soooo, surprisingly the cheaper 1000 pro integrated better for me, you know I have the Aria 906 also, so that was a big surprise. Also the REL HT1205, T5X, and Rythmik F12SE all paired well with Aria 906. Aria is a quick speaker with respect to bass so it needs a quick to respond sub.

Dual SB-1000 Pro vs Single SB-2000 pro for a Medium/large room for music? Would this change all the valuable information you have given towards the end of the video about the subwoofer size choice for music when we factor in the single/dual choice? Thank you for your amazing videos!
@NemoPropaganda

Yes, like my room can handle up to a single ported 12" a single sealed 15" or a pair of 10" sealed subs. Anything larger like a pair of 12" sealed subs is too much for my room and I just can't get it to sound natural. My room is pretty small though at 10x12 with 9ft ceilings. The sub type also matters though, anyway to answer your question I would do the pair of SB1000 Pro over the single 2000 pro.

Now this is my type of subwoofer. Having said that if you want to get down to 20 hz this one won't do it without some room gain so you might not achieve it. I read where 25 hz is more realistic before it starts to fall off. I'd get the SB 2000 pro myself, actually 2. Nice review.

@@NemoPropaganda Yeah, it never stops. I tried 5 subs about 8 months ago and 4 of them I just knew within a day or 2 that I couldn't live with them long term. Hello, I have a question for you. Do you think that the PB 1000 is a solid mix for tight bass when you want it vs lower end? I asked this because of the plugs it has to convert it in to a “sealed” sub. I’m still learning myself. The young jeezy song used to sound real nice on my Rockford fosgate t1 sub in my little ford focus in high school a loooooong time ago but I can’t remember if it was in a sealed box or not. Ugh. Also, I buy things I don’t understand. All I know was that that Rockford fosgate pretty much undid the car! Anyway, looking forward to hearing your thoughts. I have a micro 3000 but it appears my receiver sub out is broken so I haven’t been able to really test it out. Although I was thinking about the pb1000 pro. Subscribed!
@NemoPropaganda
@NemoPropaganda Ай бұрын
no, I love the PB1000 Pro but it is not a tight sub even with the ports plugged. Most vented subs have leading edges that are a little rounder and a very strong low end, essentially most vented subs are designed for LFE duty. If you want a tight sounding vented sub there are a few options like the RSL 12S or Rythmik FVX12. If you're an old car audio guy and want big bass output that is heavy handed and weighs on you then you may enjoy something like an SVS SB3000, that's kind of like the home version of the Rockford sound. If you have the space the RSL 12S is an absolute monster.

I think you're taking the subjective non-scientific approach. Nothing wrong with that, you need to do things in a way you're comfortable and happy with. But really, sound is just airwaves, those follow the laws of physics, everything else is just hot air. Like for example: you mention attack makes it impossible to integrate with other speakers. No it does not, you've set the level wrong or you're main speakers are not properly conveying the attack. Could be the speakers could be the amp driving them not having the current available. That's it, no black magic. The attack is in the audio signal. Sub cannot uncompress the signal to provide faster transient. Also you mention clarity of the low notes. Below 30-40hz where subs operate it is fairly difficult to identify the notes. If we are taking about lets say bass guitar, harmonic overtones are what makes you to be able to tell A from Bb and those are reproduced mainly by the main speakers. Try the same with pure sinewave, not that easy anymore if there's some time between when you hear the notes.

I really appreciate that you're being respectful and polite with the points you're making. Seriously it means a lot to me and I just wanted to make that clear. Outside of that the reality is you and I are on opposite sides of the spectrum and probably wont change eachothers minds. Instead of debating back and fourth I'd rather just say I hope you love your system as much as I love mine so we can both be happy :).

I picked up an SB-1000 Pro for my office of that size, in a 2.1 system. It replaced a JVC 8" 50watt sub, and the cabinet is the exact same size!! I can't believe how much sound comes out of such a petit form factor. Anyway, I highly recommend for a small room. It's very natural, tight, deep, and punchy. The app features do a great job helping it integrate in my room. I've also brought it home for my theater system, ran it as a single, ran it as duals. It doesn't quite have the authority for a home theater room on it's own (albeit, its sound quality is excellent, especially for its price point). Bottom line, it's a great value, especially for a small room.

Good video Nemo. What are your thoughts on speaker level vs line level inputs. For my music only system I currently have dual sealed subs driven by speaker level inputs from my amp and they sound great and blend well, but unfortunately one of the sub amps is starting to loudly hiss and is slowly on it's way out. So I'm looking for another pair of subs. I prefer speaker level inputs just as REL endorses, but SVS and Rythmik do not seem to support speaker level inputs on most of their products. REL subs are out of my budget zone. Please advise. ☮
@NemoPropaganda
@NemoPropaganda 7 ай бұрын
When REL speaks about high-level they are specifcially talking about their own high-level and not other brands as they are not the same. Most subs will sound better using an rca cable unless your subwoofer output or preoutput has some delay, a weird filter, noise, or some other issue and then in that situation your sub might sound better using high-level because it's getting a cleaner signal. This should not be an issue on most modern gear however. Remember the high-level on the back of most subs simply converts it to low level (RCA) internally and the signal is ultimately received as if you had just plugged in an RCA cable so if your sub sounds better via high-level then your source most likely has one of the issues I mentioned (some delay, a weird filter, noise, or some other issue).

@cyclistman6358 7 ай бұрын
@@NemoPropaganda Thanks for the quick response, I appreciate your dedication to your viewers. Everything you stated makes sense, but from my understanding the purpose and main benefit of using speaker level inputs is to allow the tonal characteristics of the main system amp to be shared with the subs. To potentially keep the main speakers and subs drinking from the same well, so to speak. That’s got to be beneficial and somewhat audible. I’m thinking about the SVS SB1000 Pro due to its affordability for two subs but as you say, I’m in the SQ camp and not sure if the SB1000 will meet my expectations. A friend has a pair of the previous gen SB1000 non Pro’s and they hit pretty hard in his non treated living room but he’s really not an audiophile. I have a dedicated music room that is fully treated and I hear everything. Probably should try the Rythmiks with the line level inputs and see what happens. 🖖🏽

Nice review, thanks. I’ve also just watched your review from quite a while ago on the B&W AWS608, which you really rated back then for music based listening. I’m at the decision point for my first sub, to fit in with 5 x B&W M-1 satellite speakers. Room is about 12’ x 15’, open on one side to open plan living area. I rarely listen above 75dB, and focus is more on music and than movies or gaming. Three choices available where I am is SVS SB1000 pro, or B&W 610 or 608. Prices drop by about $100AUD between each one. (about $70US). Unfortunately I don’t have chance to listen to any prior to purchase. With the M-1’s being such small satellites, would you think the SVS could be mismatched, or still the best option. Think you could make a review on the new KRK 12.4 subwoofer? (Not many reviews on it out here, I only saw one review of it which is more of a dj salesman review). I am curious about it because of it's low wattage, big box and big port. It might be more convenient than the sb 1000 for power consumption but I also would like to know how it may compare in sound. Unfortunately the electrical circuit in my house is old and not ideal for larger wattages so I need to keep that in consideration as well.

the answer is 100% yes, the biggest upgrade in the MK 2 HT range over the MK1 was output and the sub that saw the biggest improvement was the 1003 MK2. If you love your 1003 MK1 but need a little more the MK2 is for you. Of course you can always size up to 1205 MK2 if you want that bigger sense of scale and even more effortless bass that comes with larger subs.

Good choices :D. Yes! Subwoofers have stiff suspensions that need a bit of time to loosen up. After break in they will usually play louder and have more authority/extension in the lower frequencies. Play a song like bass I love you on repeat for like 2 hours at medium volume. That should get it most of the way there. The rest of the break in will happen over time as you enjoy the subwoofer.

Hey Man. I'm new in you channel and I like it! Nice work. I have been a long time owner of a Velodyne F1500R-B (Top of the line 30 years ago or so). Sadly, the servo system is getting me problems and it is time of a change. I love this sub and it is nice for me, but I'm afraid any new sub won't be as good as this one. 😅 however, when you see the specs for this Velodyne (250w RMS, 15", frequency response (18-85 +-3dB)), it seems like even the SB-1000 pro can even beat that but that's the intro model while this velodyne was the top at his time. What are your thoughts? Which one you recommend me? All the best.

Hi Jaime. A 12" will never sound like a 15" and vice versa of course. Why not go with something similar but better? Rythmik is the king of servo subwoofers and they have 2 sealed 15" models. the F15hp, and narrower E15.

Very timely review for me, as I'm on the trial review period for this sub. I have limited space in my office (11' x 12' a 9' sloped ceiling, and a bump out closet). I listen to mostly music and watch you tube videos from my computer. With such limited space, would it be advantageous to add a second sub? Also, I have an older Martin Logan Dynamo 300 sub, and was wondering if a second sub is suggested, could I use that, or should I get another SB 1000 pro? I appreciate any insight you could give me, thanks.

Hey Dakxtre, welcome aboard! Better grab it before October as the price is going up on all SVS subs! I've got a pair of theese in NON pro version for 6 months and I have to say that they are useless. More like a Fisher Price version of sub than a real one. Very weak, highly distorted "toy" sound. Can't even produce proper beat feeling which is usually around 50Hz. You just can't cheat physics with a small, sealed box. If you want "club like" beat feeling and low, sustained tactile bass under 30Hz go search somewhere else. I highly don't reccomend them. In this price range go only ported. 300 watts is nothing in sealed cabinet. And I wasted over $1200 for them here in Europe. One of the worst spent money in my life.

that doesn't sound right at all, I'm not gonna pretend like these are giant killers, they're pretty darn small but most 8" subs can easily hit 30-50hz so the fact that you can't hit 30-50hz with dual 12's tells me its more of a room or setup issue or user error. Instead of coming here to vent and bash a company why don't you try calling or emailing them for setup advice. It sounds like you have some major phase issues at minimum or you could be used to cheap consumer grade HT in a box or car audio setups with grossly exaggerated 50hz. Either way try running just 1 sub and try to get that to sound right, you're jumping the gun and overreacting my bro. Of course if you're trying to get club like bass then yeah these are simply too small, that doesn't make them bad, you just bought the wrong subs. You'll want something like the RSL 12s instead.

About attack versus integration, in my opinion it depends on the amplifier you are using for your speakers. Class D has a very high damping factor and if the subwoofer is class D and the speakers are not, then you are getting the subwoofer to stand out. But if both subwoofer and speakers use class D, then both will have the strong attack and should integrate well.

Good advice on calling SVS. They have been extremely helpful with room placement, trying to Integrate my old school NSD-12 in a very tricky room full of modes and nulls (as you know I plan to upgrade with Rythmik, REL, or possibly JL). @@simonverveer2590 damn that's kind of tough since you want strong performance below 35hz. I'd look into what it would cost you to get an RSL Speedwoofer 10s landed in the Netherlands. Nice review, I´m looking for a sub to my Focal aria 926 and i have a Rotel RA-1572 amp, medium size room. Would you recommend this sub for the setup i have? Just for music :)
@NemoPropaganda
@NemoPropaganda 9 ай бұрын
If this was a theater setup I'd say hell yeah brother but generally I feel like light & airy speakers don't do well with heavy handed subwoofers in music only systems but some people do like that kind of contrast. I have not heard the Aria 926 but I have the Aria 906 as part of my permanent collection. Ultimately you have $3k/pair speakers which is not cheap, you're more than welcome to hop in the free discord and we'd be happy to help you find something that fits your room & personal needs. Maybe the SB1000 Pro is the right sub for you but we need chat more to see if that's the case which is impossible to do in the comments section of YT.

This is peerless XLS aluminum driver, you can get it or even better one from scanspeak that they copy it from peerless. And get better amp like hypex. SVS is not speaker designer they just designed the box! They buy drivers from Peerless
@NemoPropaganda
@NemoPropaganda Жыл бұрын
It's actually a custom version of the Peerless XLS designed specifically for SVS, but sir, whats your point anyway? There is always something better in the market, you want a subwoofer with Hypex then buy Rythmik, you want a subwoofer with an app then buy SVS, you want a subwoofer with great high level then you can buy REL, there are many options.

I just got 2 of these for my setup. I havent got them properly calibrated, but i have someone coming up to calibrate the new tv and audio system in the coming weeks. I can say, that even without it being calibrated, and coming from a couple of old wharfedale subs, that the difference is night and day. I know it will sound even better calibrated. Tested out a couple of movies, and theres just so much sonic impact, and old scenes become new again. I had originally planned to pick up a couple of sb1000 classics, but i went for the pros, and i am glad i did.

B&W rate their subs in peak power, the 610xp is maybe 250w or less. I do not recommend the ASW series anymore, it's very old and been ignored by BW. Instead of the 610XP I'd suggest a REL HT 1003 MK2. As far as the SB1000 Pro, it's a 12", it will play louder overall.

it's not that simple but it's actually very common for the theater guys to mix subs, for example having to large subs upfront like a pair of SVS PB16 and then smaller subs in the rear like SB2000 Pro. For music I would not recommend mismatched subs though.

hi nemo.. just figured id give an update.. so i was running a denon s650h receiver and had purchased the svs 5.1 satalite.. and was very underwhelmed with the subs performance.. on your recommendation ordered the rsl speedwoofer 10s that was july 13th was to ship early august.. then the 18th came and went emailed them buy theend of the month called the 31st... now september 25... canceled it and have a svs pb1000 pro coming tomorrow lol... also went with polk s60 towers s30 center.. and an onkyo nr696, point being when i decided to upgrade the receiver i went to bestbuy.. and they had a svs sb1000 played it with all of the receivers they had and to my surprise, never really thought about it, the receiver what the issue with bass.. was actually thinking about a marantz sr5014.. but the pioneer and yamahas both brought that little sb1000 to life in direct comparison to denon and marantz.. the denon especially sounding flat and lifeless.. dont know how denon is so highly rated after that... was actually thinking about a marantz sr5015.. but after playing with them.. was looking at the yamaha v6a.. no one had them at that moment or amazon had a few over retail.. wound up with the onkyo as they had it in stock and an open box at $160 off... and had a nice powerful... sorry i got long winded there... if the sb1000 would have sounded like that in my home at the time id still have it... also never could find bookshelves that game me the sound i wanted lol buying some things is becoming a pain lately

Hey Rob, you're absolutely right, the amp/receiver can have a big impact on the bass the subwoofer makes. For example running the REL T9X pair off my reference rig vs the more affordable IotaVX amp was totally different and it can be even more different with AVR's since many of them use some kind of filtering/dsp. Sometimes this stuff can become dizzying, when it does I like to take a step back from everything and enjoy one of my other hobbies instead.

Love your channel. I have a 3.5mx4m room and upgraded ny speakers from B&W satellite speakers to KEF Q750 fronts, Q250c centre, Q50a as surrounds and IC200ER for in ceiling. I have a old B&W AS2 sub and looking to upgrade as well, I would like a SQ sub. I am looking at REL HT 1003, 1205 and SVS SB 1000 pro. I can't get hold of Rythmik or RSL subs here down under. I can't have 2 subs due to placement in the room. I don't like boomy bass which one of those should I get? I like the price and size of HT 1003 how do you think will it go with my system or do I need to go 1205?
@NemoPropaganda
@NemoPropaganda 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Parminder, thank you for the kind words, those are some beautiful looking speakers you have :). So that room is very similar to my room size. A single HT 1003 or SB1000 Pro will for sure be enough for music. For movies you know there is so much bass sometimes so you might sometimes wish you had the larger/more powerful 1205. Since you can only have 1 I think you should get the one that offers the most output like Emotiva RS11, REL HT-1205, SB-2000 Pro, or Arendal 1961. But still based on taste you might still want more, "how much bass is enough" is very personal but I think most people would be happy with one of those 4 I mentioned.

@@NemoPropaganda - really appreciate your prompt response. Yeah without the grills the KEFs look good and they sound great as well, I auditioned B&W 600 series, Dali Oberon series, Polk, Klipsch, Q accoustics, Revel and I liked KEF the most of those. I also heard Dynaudio in a stereo setup the instrument separation on those is just amazing but they were a bit expensive, I found the KEF to be closest to them and I got the KEF deal (pay for Q550 and get the 750) so they ticked all the boxes. Unfortunatly it will be hard for me to grab Emotiva or Arendal sub here in Australia. Most Home Theater Audio stores recommend getting the SVS but in a store I heard two REL subs rocking in a stereo setup and I was impressed with the quality of bass. The guy I bought the KEFs from recomended me the REL HT 1003 but another guy from the same store said HT 1205 which confused me but they were both REL over SVS. I like my B&W sub but I wanted to upgrade to get a better SQ sub not necessarily louder, I use my media room to listen to music, watch tv, movies. I think I tend to like the 10 inch subs as they are faster, though I used to own a JBL soundbar with a 12 inch downfiring sub in the past which was in a small room and it was great and powerful but my ears were not as trained back then as they are now. For example in my car I went from a Rockford 12 inch ported sub to a 10 inch DD audio and I like it more. With the size of my room there will be some room gain as the sub will be placed in a corner near to the wall, will the HT 1003 go low.
@NemoPropaganda
@NemoPropaganda 3 жыл бұрын
@@parmindersingh-fu8sh I don't think anyone will hear a difference in terms of speed between the 1003 and 1205. The 1205 is a super quick sub but it sounds like you really want the 1003. Sometimes we just have to pick based on "feeling". So you're feeling the 1003 is going to be the right one so I say go for it. I do this too and it usually works out okay.

Hey, nice video I wonder If I need a subwoofer or not and if I can add it to my system or not. My Amp doesn't have a subwoofer out or something and my bookshelf speakers do have a bass reflect 8" C-CAM RST II mid-bass driver. I'm kind of new to the subwoofer material, but I think I could benefit from at least one sub in my system since I really love deep frequencies and bass. What would you say do you think the svs could be worth a try? the 8" MA driver is good, it extends pretty low, you just need to ask yourself do you want more? If the answer is yes then you add a sub. The SB1000 Pro is a good option because its compact and has the speaker level inputs you'll need to connect it to your amp. If you need more help feel free to ask in my free discord, link is in the description.
