We never really realized how poor we really were. She made sure we had what we needed. She worked two jobs to make sure we did. Obviously she is my hero!

I never miss your videos. I went to Fairbanks in 2002, with a cousin after I lost my husband of 30 yrs. She has a son and daughter that lives there. We visited the North Pole and so many other places, and I fell in love with Alaska. It was in the summer and the weather was wonderful. My first night there I decided to take a walk about, the sun was so bright, and it looked as if I could just reach up and touch it. It was so light and I thought it was maybe evening, about 6pm. I looked at my watch and it was 3am.

Last summer my little guy and I took a trip to North Pole and on our way back we stopped in Nenana and made friends with the family that owns the campground there. Stopped at the store there and always remembered the owner cause he was so extra kind and helpful. We have been planning this summers trip since we returned from our trip last year.

I had ro dig deep into my memory for this. I remember studying Alaska in school and Nenana was one we had to learn in the early 60's. If I recall I believe back in the 1900's or so a lottery was started to see when the ice would break each spring. I can't remember why this was ever started. Mind you at 72 I 'm not as sharp as I was much younger, so I just might be wrong about all this. 🤔

I lived in Alaska when I was a kid and our entire family has always referred to it as our favorite place. We were an Air Force family so we lived in a lot of places. I am 63 now and after seeing this video I had to share it with my brother as we both remember this store. Our last visit was in 1969. We both remember unpaved roads and remember having to sit in the car until a moose left the front door area before we could go inside. Thank you so much for reminding me of those days......

I vividly remember driving from Fairbanks to a very tiny place called Fox. They had a really old, really crowded and dimly lit general store. They carried the heavy winter gear my dad needed for working outside during the winter. This would have been 1951-52.

I always get tears when you do the Random Act of Kindness. Times are so hard for so many right now, and so many really do need help. I love the store. Nenana is the way I picture some towns in Alaska. It is sad but tv gives us tv shows about living in the bush and that is the way some of us think that is the way Alaska really is and it is not. Here in the southern end of California's Central Valley, Chevron Regular is $609/gal.,....IF YOU PAY CASH OR USE THEIR CARD. $.10 per gallon more if you use any other card.
