Labour could not win. Brexit was the hot topic issue in this election. Leave or remain. The conservatives had been smart enough to commit to a stance (leave). While labour merely promised another referendum. This means that, the conservatives would pick up seats in places like northfield, wolverhampton (strong labour constituencies) and many more constituencies that wanted to leave. The amount of labour constituencies that flipped is truly astounding. Labour not committing meant it would be impossible for them to gain any seats at all. How could you vote for them? Brexit is the big debate and they wont even pick a side. It was a disgusting display from labour and really shows how out of touch their party had become. Ps, this was in an article I read post election. This particular analysis was not something I considered during the election
@collette3428

Labour lost because they've systematically alienated their base. Like it or not, their base is the family man in the north looking after his family, working his job in, and enjoying his time with his mates. Labour have been pushing for more immigration and their rights since the 90s, this base might not vote tory (although it seems like plenty did) but voted for the "send a message to Labour party" in the Brexit party. In all honesty, Labour screwed Labour. Corbyn is just the result of New Labour policies turned up to 11, if Labour want to pull back their base, they need to remember what they used to stand for.

Interesting video, ShayMay. As an American I admit I have no idea how UK politics work and have never needed to follow UK politics. but with every passing day my Twitter feed gets more and more tweets and memes and images about things happening in the UK that I don’t really understand. And it’s made me go to Wikipedia a couple of times to learn how UK government works. So it’s really nice to have a video like this that compiles everything I should know about what’s happening in the UK. What the parties are, who the figureheads are, and how the people of the UK are being affected. Now I wish that someone would make a similar video for the US since there’s so much information both true and false floating around about what happens over here, and it would be nice if someone compiled everything we need to know about what’s happening in the US and presented it without being obnoxiously left or right, similar to how you did it here.

Man, I'm not even into politics and I don't live in the UK or anywhere near it, but yet I really enjoyed watching this, it's really informative and entertaining, like all of your videos. My problem with politics is more the surrounding than anything, basically, it's hard to get involved with political subject without being stressed out, as not only is it pretty divided and complicated, but there are too many "they said this, they said that" type of stuff, with that I mean, people focusing on putting words on each others' mouths, or attempting to make their side less bad by saying why the other one is worse or resorting to meaningless insults, and that's when it's just not outright a war zone. There's so much complication with just getting proper information without getting the handpicked and overblown part of it. And the general toxicity of a lot of people when discussing that doesn't help either. Regardless, while you obviously focused on why you think one is best over another, I do get a sense of logic behind all of this, you actually made arguments showcasing the negative sides of both of them, and chose the one that has less negative potential. It's pretty refreshing, as some of discussions I've seen resort to borderline panic-inducing methods to get you to their side. (Which is something bigger media outlets tend to do a lot, but even then it spreads to general public because of their reach, and it quickly becomes that hell hole of misinformation and toxicity which I mentioned before). This video made me understand fairly well what's going on, and while I have literally nothing that I can do to affect the outcome of the situation, I at least have gained some information. Thanks, Shay!

This is so up my alley that you've unlocked my back gate, come through my garden and are practically in bed with me. This is the first time I've come across your channel, and I love the video! You made a thorough, convincing & excellent case for Labour. I was already firmly committed to voting for Labour tomorrow, but I imagine that if I was on the fence then this could push me towards the light. So, as to the giving orders to nuclear submarines... Now take this with a grain of salt, I'm an American and my understanding might be flawed. But as I understand it, the PM at the start of their term writes sealed orders for the commanders of nuclear submarines, to be opened and read only in the event of a nuclear attack on the UK itself. These orders can be anything, they can be as detailed or as vague as the PM likes, and they don't have to be to engage in offensive operations. The orders *could* be a list of target cities in the most likely aggressor's territory, but it could also be to await further orders, or to put itself under the control of an allied power, or it could even be to simply sail to a friendly allied port, disembark the crew, and scuttle the sub. So the idea that the guy wouldn't write any orders period does seem strange to me, given my (again, possibly incorrect) understanding. I don't think it necessarily means the man is incompetent, he might have good reason for it, but without knowing that it seems odd that he wouldn't write the orders.

EDIT: Instead of using your influence to try and get across a message about a specific party, it would be so much more beneficial to get across the message to vote for policies: voteforpolicies.org.uk Please check that link out if you still haven’t voted - you get to choose the policies that are important to you based on topics and then anonymously decide which ones you agree with. It then generates a pie chart and reveals the parties you’re most aligned with. Unbiased, anonymous and unique to you. I was a bit apprehensive to watch a political video from you as I didn’t want you to jump the shark, but this was interesting at the very least and I appreciate the video as it did broaden my perspective on some issues. No matter who people vote for, there are broad issues across all parties that make it almost impossible to be absolutely certain that the party you’re inclined to vote for will make a positive difference. Social media and the internet is plagued with a nauseating concoction of lies, bias and fear-mongering supported by people trying to shout as loud as possible to be heard above all the others. Most of the time, the articles and posts that garner the most mainstream attention are focussed on schoolyard comments, “digging up dirt” on party members like they’re celebrities and, what’s worse, the general stupidity of the majority of the populous. That last point is the most important point I believe. As unpatriotic as it sounds, the majority of the people eligible to vote are stubborn, unwilling to change their perspective and choose to focus on all of the least important factors with regards to politics. This point when combined with the outdated historical party system that has lasted decades upon decades, makes both the Conservative Party and the Labour Party seem untrustworthy, unreliable and juvenile - with both wrapped up with scandals in the past, failing the country when previously in power whilst both being best-positioned to win the election due to the two-party system that is the British government. What’s my point? That UK politics is frustrating for every reason possible. Information contradicts itself and everyone has to either put their fingers in their ears and go with whoever they feel like voting for, or become their own private detectives scouring pages of manifestos, “expert opinions” and hoping they’re not being played for a fool. I always come back to this: does this particular article/post/news make me more inclined to vote for a party I want to vote for, or is it simply said party trying to make me less inclined to vote for their rival? That’s why anyone foolish enough to flock to Facebook to bash labour supporters or conservative supporters is ridiculous. Not all labour supporters are young people wanting to rebel against the system that’s oppressed them over the three years they’ve been old-enough to vote, and not all conservative voters are old rich people who just care about their money. Everyone is going through their own struggles and politics seems to have strayed far away from focussing on tangible policies to make the country better, rather than attacking their rivals and assassinations-of-character if any individual is found to not be holier-than-thou. A great example of this is anyone who brings up the topic of racism by Corbyn or Johnson - both of which have made racist, or seemingly racist comments and decisions in the past. However, if you’re going to make an excuse for one, and not the other, then you need to ask yourself why that is, and therefore if it’s actually a big issue for you when choosing who to vote for in the first place. Thanks for the video, Shay. Whilst I wouldn’t say the video was completely unbiased, I don’t think it was pushy or obnoxious and left a good taste. I think you came off pretty well and, again, your style is so entertaining for whatever content you choose to focus your efforts towards. Keep it up mate.

In response to your argument on the consequences of being loose with nuclear weapons, you're inaccurate to characterize blowing each other up as the "best case" scenario of such a stance. The reason why the doctrine of mutually assured destruction existed was to create a scenario where the other side has to capitulate on a dispute or at least engage in negotiations so that any conflict can be resolved peacefully without the exchange of nukes. The best case scenario in such a situation is that Britain gets whatever its geopolitical interest is from whoever the threat is without conflict because the other party realized the risk wasn't worth it. That's not a very realistic scenario and certainly not one I advocate, but that is the scenario that supporters of that stance imagine.

I've never once used half my party. i don't know who these people in my party are. what are their policies? what do they want to achieve? i don't know. i just don't know. im sure we all feel this, but sometimes i just want to go back to simpler times. A time when i would have to wander around in tall grass attacking random animals because the guy at the gym was too strong. Kids these days are soft. they get a free ride. they don't know what it was like, getting lost deep in a cave with no escape rope. goddamn bats swooping and screeching and diving around the car. okay sorry i dont know where i was going with this. conservatives bad. exp share all bad. get vaccinated. eat the rich.

I know it's a silly question, but because I'm not from UK, I'll ask: How important is the queen?
@eddieguy2178

Not at all anymore. Formally she has to ratify every piece of legislation that is made but if she didn't there would be a huge uproar (again, it's a formality). Similarly, technically she owns all the land in the UK but again this is a formality and doesn't actually mean anything in practice. Her main purpose nowadays is a national symbol/tourism to Buckingham Palace.

I appreciate most of you’re saying here, but I’d tread lightly when it comes to “Will you really be able to solve this? You’ve been in power for 9 years.” It takes time for policy change to fully reach the population, and I don’t know how long it takes, but that mentality of “but the problems still aren’t totally fixed yet” is the exact mentality that causes US presidential elections to flip flop whenever the opportunity presents itself. Life was rough under Bush so we’ll vote for Obama. Life was fought under Obama so we’ll vote for Trump. Life was rough under Trump so we’ll vote for Biden. Repeat ad nauseam. Another important thing to consider is that some things are simply out of the control of a legislative/executive body. By the time the housing bubble popped over here in the US nobody could have stopped what was coming. It could have been prevented of course, and different people what deal with the fallout with different degrees of success, but the fact is that life would have gotten worse regardless of who sat on the presidential throne, and regardless of who held the majority in Congress. I really appreciate this video, but I can’t let that concluding segment stand unchallenged.

I love you so much shay! But I noticed one bit of the video where you called America’s health care system is a worst case scenario, and I have to disagree with you there. You’re absolutely right about the ambulance costs, and I think they’re outrageous but there are 2 reasons why that isn’t as big of a problem as it seems. The first is that very few people when they are injured, even severely have to take an ambulance when they can instead just catch a ride from someone, and the second is that the myriad of health insurance options cover ambulance rides, so as long as you can continue to pay on average $200 a month (which isn’t so much) you can end up paying around $20-$50 for transportation if you have to pay up anything. I work at a volunteer fire department and a convenience store which exposes me to our emergency health care system and government welfare respectively. Even to the most destitute person who can’t afford anything, they’re still given the best possible care they can receive for any ailment and there is a large possibility that medical bills for them can go left unpaid for extended amounts of time with minimal fuss from whatever health care provider they received. This gives someone 5 years to either raise money to pay their bills or 5 years to skate by until the bank comes and takes their car or something that they might need but isn’t essential to their life. There’s a lot of self accountability for able bodied people in the system which I actually advocate. And one thing the government readily supplies is groceries to people in the form of what we call an EBT card which gets loaded with around $200-$500 a month, absolutely free and from my convenience store position I see those a lot

There's a lot I didn't like about what Labour meant by the "Peoples Vote", first and foremost that it was pushed as a 3 point vote - yes on this deal, no on this deal, no on brexit. A 3 point referendum doesn't work unless one option gets a huge majority. I'd have preferred if Labour and the SNP didn't fight the Tories every step of the way. Get out and then get another General Election. I'm not surprised that the Tories won the in 2019, Corbyn had the perfect chance to win the election at the last GE and still failed, despite a huge younger vote turn out. Overall Shay, I feel like your video here is a little bit of rose tinting.
