Games don't use soundfonts. They both happened to use the same sample. The sample comes from a Roland JD-990 synthesizer which was extremely popular in the 90s, so many different composers used it. It's a panflute.

I came here from watching a Mario Romhack & I have to say I agree with you that Super Mario 64 needs anime Romhacks. The only question is how do we convert Evangelion into Mario 64 & make it work? Super Touhou 64 would be easy, although how are we supposed to get Mario reskinned into Shinji into the robot? Mushroom powerup was DS exclusive meaning we would have to make Mario his mech for each of the courses then make Mario Shinji in the Hub World. At least the remake for DS would let you do a lot more in its Romhack where you start as Mari then have to unlock Shinji, Rei, & Asuka as playable characters. I wonder what the levels, enemies, & bosses would look like in the game. Shinji = Mario, Rei = Luigi, Asuka replaces Wario, & Mari replaces Yoshi. I'm sure there are plenty of rumors of a 5th Player Character although how do we unlock him?

In my opinion, the first 7 seconds of this song are the best sounding part. Of course that doesn't mean that the rest of the song is terrible, but I just really like that bit at the beginning. Even in the original version, the choir/choral at the beginning was my favourite part. I could easily listen to that part specifically on a loop for days.
