Evangelion is probably one of the most known shows for anime fans. It aired for decades because the main director Reworked the series and never gave in to pressure. The series finished last year as Hideaki anno meant his work to be portrayed. There's several channels just for episode/character analysis and theme dissection. A true anime rabbit hole if you dive into direction and animation.

Not to be that guy but it’s pronounced “Eh-va’an-ghel-eon” It’s easily one of the most influential anime of all time, if you’ve never seen it and don’t mind diving into the subconscious of characters undergoing mental breakdowns it’s a great series

It is hard to explain the show, but it mixes a lot of sci-fi with judeo christian religious dogma along with Nietzschean themes. It's pure angst and robots, if you're into that type of thing.

Neon Genesis Evangelion basically translates from greek as gospel of a new generation. The show itself has a lot of religious undertones, although sometimes they are meaningless.
