Tyler actually had to fight to put this song on the Trench album. The record label thought it was too deep or something like that and wouldn't do well, or people wouldn't get it....Turns out it's one of the best songs on the album.

The ending always hits me because I know my grandparents have all struggled with some kind of mental illness and yet they’re still here. They fought to be here. It puts life into perspective for me because I feel like I fight for my life every day because of those same illnesses and I’ve come so close to giving in. Realizing they’ve probably felt that way too, for a lot longer than me, and they made it out. They didn’t give up even though it would have been so much easier to. Thankfully we never lost them to suicide, only an accident and old age. What I would give to tell the ones that passed away just how much I appreciate and respect them. For everything they’ve unknowingly given me.

It was actually all about celebrity suicide. “He could go out with a bang”. But he doesn’t want to glorify suicide, which is way he said “we glorify those even more when they…..”. And he didn’t not name it. Later he says, if he loses to himself (commits suicide) don’t morn for him. Just move on to someone else. The rise in awareness of mental health issues is a good thing, but he just doesn’t want “it” to be glorified. And what is, he’ll mourn for a kid but won’t cry for a king? He is saying that he has great compassion for kids who are hurting and worst case kills the self (guns for hands). But he won’t cry for a celebrity that has everything and kill’s themselves. They didn’t get enough love? Everyone else got just a fraction of love they got. It’s a very haunting song and was amazing to see live.
