VIDEO DESCRIPTION:
On February 8, just one day before the start of the Olympic Winter Games in South Korea - North Korea held a military parade showing off their latest rockets.
It’s nothing new. North Korea has been working on improving it’s missile technology for several decades now. And the international community has been trying to stop them from getting their hands on nuclear bombs or H-bombs. This video is all about the different approaches by 4 US. Presidents in dealing with North Korea.

Joseph Gutierrez Nobody wins the war because neither side is likely to claim victory not because one side isn’t more capable than the other. China/Russia is huge and have a sizeable nuclear arsenal. If they can’t hurt the USA, they can certainly hit Europe and other NATO allies. All in all, we end up with a lot of dead people and assuming someone does emerge victorious the price will be steep.

@GAZAMAN93X

F. OPE if NK didn't have a brutal regime then everything would have been great. And I think we all know by now that the US government will do everything within it's power to contain Communism.. Even if it means overthrowing governments and installing someone else by arming rebels.
@FOLIPE
@FOLIPE 6 жыл бұрын
Ok, so let's break this down. First: Libya, Syria and Iraq were not about fighting communism. This is not about communism, only, it is about world supremacy, and in East Asia, trying to contain China (good luck with that). Second: I know the US is ready to do anything to fight its enemies. I am just arguing that its methods are stupid and backfire sometimes (Afghanistan, Al-Quaida, ISIS, you name it); and, specially, that from THE POV OF THE OTHER SIDE, it makes sense to act the way N. Korea and Iran act because the US is not trustworthy. As you said, they'll do whatever pleases them. What I am saying is that it doesn't always work and the world sees right through the american speeches and double standards, when they apply. Third: This is not about "being great" or not, but being realistic. I know the US is hypocritical and all, but let's pretend to be real now. I agree the North Korean government is possibly the worst in the world and it isn't fair to compare it with any other government (even Myanmar)... BUT this is not about bringing democracy or whatever to Korea. For one, I don't think it can be argued that US interventions are good (Afghanistan would have been better if the USSR had won, and Iraq, Syria, Lybia and the Middle East would be better if the americans hadn't intervened directly or at all...). So what about N. Korea? Do you want a war there? Well, it is not my country, not my region, but I'd not want a war in my backyard (let alone when the neighbor has guns pointed at be) just because americans in the other side of the world felt that was necessary. Japan and South Korea obviously don't want to escalate anything, they want (a) guarantees of peace and long lasting stability and (b) a LONG TERM (focus on LONG) plant to deal with the issue. No war, no rebels, no government overthrowing. So, I think the best approach is not trying to turn North Korea into Afghanistan; they, for one, will make sure to raise the costs of any american interference so as to prevent that exactly... and that is what they are doing. Maybe if the US had a better track record, North Korea wouldn't be acting so silly in the world stage. Now, just for a comparison, and assuming you are American, how would you feel if Russia or China tried to do something like that somewhere like Mexico, and then let's say 30 or 40 million Mexicans had to go to the US (like the Syrian refugees crisis) + Mexican guerillas started acting in the South and Southwest of the States (like ISIS or Al-Quaida) + the new mexican government decided it needs nuclear weapons (like N. Korea) + the old mexican army formed a nationalist or religious or ethnic guerrilla in the south or the north of the country (like ISIS) ? I bet people wouldn't bat an eye before condemning that sort of intervention as reckless, anti-democratic and overall crazy... so basically, I hope the US applied to itself the standards it wants the rest of the world to follow. Screw the american exceptionalism, or the rest of the world will come to bite you in the back.

@@amineamraoui4397 first of all that's not correct majority of EU countries dont have Nukes, second there is this saying of peace through strength. Which means that having a strong millitary is a big deterrent for countries to invade those countries. North korea is doing the opposite they are not using it their armaments in order to sue for peace, rather so far they are the ones who keep threatening countries with test missiles and such and the other way around so far the US has only utilized non military punishment notably sanctions and if North-Korea wants those to remove it should moderate rather than threaten harder.
@Oscar-vv6dn
@Oscar-vv6dn 4 жыл бұрын
@@amineamraoui4397 That is completely ridiculous. Of course, North Korea should not have nukes. They are a provocative dangerous regime, and if they possess nuclear weapons it puts us all at a huge risk. It is ideal that no more countries get more nuclear weapons. That is what we are all striving towards. That is why the USSR didn't help North Korea more because the more countries that have nuclear weapons, and the more dangerous countries that have nuclear weapons, the likelihood of war increases.

If you have a little sister or brother you'll understand what I mean by this. Imagine them being incredibly annoying to you- on purpose. Trying to get a reaction. What was the most effective approach to making your annoying sibling stop? Ignore them. Threatening to hit them did not work, and you can't really negotiate with an idiot, so you try ignoring them. Guess what? most of the time it fucking works. Furthermore, it noted specifically in the video how north Korea got something out of their horrible actions- countries would always bribe them with something to stop. So, completely logically, Obama merely tried to deprive them of what they wanted. Just because it didn't work doesn't mean it was stupid to try, or that it was lazy.

As much as I appreciate the memes, I think a lot of people a misunderstanding the idea of strategic patience. The past two presidents had both tried and failed to negotiate with North Korea, and obviously war isn't an option. In addition, the previous president had pulled away from an already established treaty, then attempted to create there own, only to fail getting anywhere. It would have been unwise to try and convince NK into entering more negotiations, meaning the best option was to wait and observe North Korea, proving that we are willing to give them freedom and are not a threat, then wait and see what they would do.

@Maykr The victors of WW1 used Trump's method of dealing with Germany. Look where that went. Your argument is false equalization, and a 'post hoc ergo Procter hoc' falacy. China is dominent due to it's greater economic ties, less pushy agenda, and has a very large, large cheap labour force to produce major goods at the time. Also comes into effect is the gullible politicians of the West in general. DPRK does not have the same manpower to put alot of people to work to produce really cheap goods to the same level as china.

@@polarisgemini52 Evidence for that? Ask yourself, who has what to lose. If you do enough research, North Korea has much to lose one their issues are stabilized. Just think, at best their state would start having better food and other stuff for their people, (and their leader gets more fatter I guess), and then these very people lose all that just because they got sanctioned again for invading southwards. That could destabilize the state's ability to be in charge while trying to deal with a revolution. Worse still, they could (including the leader and top generals) could lose their own lives they hold dear. Further China values a space between themselves, and the U.S backed side border wise. DPRK replies on them, and since attacking the south could end badly like in 1953, they would not wanna mess with thei only ally that can keep them afloat.

Trump actually went to north korea, even shook hands with Kim jong un, and then they signed a treaty for north korea to stop nuclear testing, but even though north korea signed it, they still resumed nuclear testing. If im wrong about any of this please let me know
@seedmelon765
@seedmelon765 3 жыл бұрын
They was no treaties signed in regards to that. They voluntarily stopped nuclear testing and blew up their testing site before the first Trump-Kim talks in order to show sincerity in their part. The second summit between Trump and Kim was supposed to get into specifics about North Korea's denuclearization efforts in return for partial to full lifting of UN sanctions, but Trump walked out of the summit with no treaty. North Korea since then has returned to quietly developing their nukes and launch capabilities, and what they're doing now isn't breaking any promises because no promises were made before Trump put the North Korea issue on hold and got distracted by other things. If Biden returns to Obama's strategy, then it'll be solidify North Korea as an unofficial nuclear power and become a ticking time bomb of complete destabilization of the region until the US belatedly comes back to the table.

How many drone strikes in the Middle East? Or even to their own citizens by means of mass surveillance, ridiculously expensive medical care, an absolutely senseless war on drugs filling up prisons, death sentences (!), easy access to firearms ending up in mass shootings nine out of every ten days on average(!!). Should we nuke the USA? I for one find that very tempting, but what happens in the USA is USA citizens' problems, not mine. I have no right whatsoever to say how they should organize themselves, even though they like to boast about being democratic while forcing people to choose between two idiots every four years. How about South Korea? Consistently among the top countries in the world... In suicide rates. Should we nuke them too to put them out of their misery? Or how about we just leave them the fuck alone because that is not our problem, mate? The world is not yours to police. I seriously hope that if the USA attacks North Korea, they go down guns blazing by reducing the source of almost every international conflict to a nuclear wasteland with them so we can finally have some peace.

The way the video covers the different diplomatic strategies the last us presidents used in tacking the north korean nuclear issue. It also shows that it's very hard to solve. It would take a combination of negotiating with china, economic and social subversion and getting other political leaders on top. What I feel is wrong is that there are so many people commenting here defending a regieme that would wipe them out without a problem. No country is perfect people, but if you wouldn't choose to live in north korea you shouldn't jump so fast to defend a regieme that sends its citizens to death camps.

"What I feel is wrong is that there are so many people commenting here defending a regieme that would wipe them out without a problem" You're talking about the US right? When was the last time North Korea invaded another country? Back in 1948? When was the last time the US invaded another country? Oh wait it's invading Syria as we speak and has taken over 30% of Syrian territory. Your "no country is perfect" is no excuse to defend a warmongering country that has killed millions of people overseas while trashing the one and only country in the world that minds its own fucking business and is known as the "hermit kingdom".

+Jed Luk You and sir Vlad Condrea have both good strong points however it safe to say that whatever that we do wherever it is all may somehow and will inevitably lead to something that of which we call "The End of Humanity" er, something like endless death and destruction...(Now I make not a point there due to the language barrier I have and well languages affect grammar and logic sometime)

Luv Pancake At this point, I just want to see the two Koreas united under mutual agreement and with US military presence out. It baffles my mind how some consider the hermit kingdom a threat, but not the warmongering country that has invaded countless countries over the years and killed millions overseas.

davison ruiz Trump is the first American president to walk through the DMZ, a historic event. Rocker man also answered a American reporter, yet another historical moment. And South Korea and North Korea hasn’t been closer ever since, and i guess you could say that Kim’s threats are over ever since Trump talked with him. North Korea’s threat to America has disappeared ever since Trump really, we might get to see a united Korea in this era.
