Thanks for the info. We saw a HUGE pitcher plant in a botanical garden and the smell near it was very bad. It was in a greenhouse. So I figured it was necessary to attract insects. Glad to hear it, so I will go with your information.

Amazing video! When you have time, could you make a hoya update? Your hoyas are stunning!

Can the old mix be thrown into an outdoor bog garden?

It looks so pretty with the live moss!!
@BradsGreenhouse6 жыл бұрын
thanks, yes I also love the look of the live moss

What nepenthes species in particular enjoy live moss? Do you have a list?
@brycerush983 жыл бұрын
As far as I know, straight live moss is a top tier option for the majority of nepenthes, but it’s pretty expensive. A mix based in LFS with a top dressing is a good way to get great (sometimes better) results while remaining cost effective, that way you can but more plants 🤣

Since perlite isn't renewable (not particularly) I would have tried to separate and reuse it rather than throwing it away, if it's possible

Nice I watched both your videos. I do my repotting in Dec so last year just two months ago was my repot of all my plants. What is that stuff on the side of the old pot? My pots get that too.
@BradsGreenhouse6 жыл бұрын
December is a great time for that! I’ll have to check and see what is on the pot

Are you ever selling any seeds?

Brad I have a question, how often do you water a hamata or hamata hybrid? And how much water do you put in it when watering? I have a hamata x ventricosa i bought from you last year and its doing fine, but im afraid I might be giving it too much or too little water
@BradsGreenhouse6 жыл бұрын
It will totally depend on the plant. To many variables. Warm house, dry house, the time of year. The size of pot, the size of the root system. Just keep it always damp, not soggy.

I used some bark, in my mix is that okay?
@brendajernigan76426 жыл бұрын
I would like to grow one of these in my sunroom just to help control the knats. I understand they don't exactly smell great and they come in various sizes. What type or name would you suggest or not to grow one in this location so they don't overpower my orchids.
@gayjojofan19056 жыл бұрын
First, they do not smell and second, you can get a nepenthes ventrata which does grow very fast but ones it gets to big just trim the main stem because it will still be fine because it will make other stems.
@brycerush983 жыл бұрын
They don’t smell at all really, unless you spill a pitcher somehow. Honestly I find butterworts more satisfying for gnats. You get a lot of flowers, can take lower light than neps and you see the results of their work.

Another informative vid THANK YOU ...l growing nepenthes for 1 year now .I have a light meter can you tell me what is the ideal level as I might have to use lights until summer
@gayjojofan19056 жыл бұрын
it depends on the type, what types do you have

@BradsGreenhouse6 жыл бұрын
Definitely depends on the species, 500 - 5000 FC of light works. Have to see how your plants are reacting and back off the light of the start to burn, get to red or yellow. They will all respond differently

That's one reason I don't like moss in my nep mix, it's a bit of a PITA. I use peat moss,perlite and orchid bark.
@BradsGreenhouse6 жыл бұрын
Interesting, you have good luck with peat moss then ?
@Tommyr6 жыл бұрын
Yes. If you repot every 2-3 years anyway it works fine. The perlite and small handful of orchid bark opens up the peat for good drainage/aeration.

Hi could you tell me why my poinsettia has a yellow spot and black patches on the bracts ?
@gayjojofan19056 жыл бұрын
Were did you get it and when did you get?
@sheilamasters27226 жыл бұрын
Hi hon I had this poinsettia before Christmas as a gift. The bracts are turning black with yellow spots but have baby leaves sprouting on the stem but the roots are light brown and soil smell musky (bugs flying around it) ~ should I replant or throw it away?

For some reason my pitcher plant just won’t grow pitchers. It grow SO MUCH and it is really healthy. I have no idea why but it just won’t grow any pitchers. It’s pretty large and grows the tiny little underdeveloped pitchers but they won’t grow fully. I also fertilize it and water it a lot keeping the humidity up. Do you have any advise do get by nepenthes to pitcher??? 😐
@runaway2me804 жыл бұрын
Charlie Bufton sounds like it’s the fertilizer.

Hi brad, my nepenthes hamata has started to produce some deformed leaves and pitchers. I’m wondering if that’s normal or if not what can I do to help it?
