This Zangief Player Hasn't Lost

Zangief got a lot stronger in season 2, and we've been starting to see him more and more in tournaments. With Itazan doing well at Dreamhack Summer, and now Kobayan doing well at Topanga league, a stacked tournament in Japan, it seems like the character might be a real threat now in SF6. Let's see how Kobayan is still undefeated in his group against the best players in Japan.

You are correct it is a 2 frame window for jump cancel spd. Jump is 5 frames, you need to start the 360 from holding up so that you get the jump. You need to hit all sides, so up, left, down, right. This makes up 4 frames. You can hit a punch button on the 4th frame, and then you have another before you jump.

i always figured that you just have to *end* on an up direction, sorta like doing the qcb motion for a cannon strike on the ground, going straight to up-forward, and pressing the kick button as soon as you leave the ground for an as-low-as-possible cannon strike.

you just have to end on up, you'd have to be really fast to do a 4-frame SPD

Gief’s jump spd has a 5 frame window after you press jump to cancel into a spd The later you press punch the better so you can dodge a throw, so its not really a 2 frame window but it is about timing the punch on the 5th frame of a jump

@@AmountStax The buffs that matter for Gief are the changes to the amount of drive gauge damage he does on block and improvement to his combo consistency. In a game as balanced as SF6 it doesn’t take much for a character to go from bottom to top tier.

Zangiefs kit is just naturally volatile so those small buffs break him. Sadly because grapplers have such high burst damage so they have to be balanced on a knife’s edge

Single hit confirms are considerably rarer in SF6, most of the cancel windows are just impossible to react in time. The ones that are there are also on the fast side. So double check the amount of time you have for the normal. It’s a system wide thing. I’d say anything 14 frames or under would be considered almost impossible

combo when u know u'll get a punish or from counter hits, or else just do safe strings, some strings can deviate into strong confirms if you get the first hit. single hit confirm by reflex is not a thing

Besides what the video has shown, i generally don't like Zangeif bc of his insane damage like come on three command grabs and its pretty much over, and tbh i like playing against Zangeif most of the time because of the disadvantage im in and thrill of it, the point im trying to make here is, there anyone how has the same point view as me when it comes to Zangeif?

@Nephew how scary are top tier Zangief players compared to other matchups? I understand Gief is low on a lot of tier lists, but the top 1% of Giefs seem better than a lot of other top 1% of characters loyalists.

Zangief got buffed, top players started picking him & more importantly started going to tournaments (previously they wouldnt go or they would play in a few tournaments as possible in order to hide their tech). Zangief has gotten a few nerfs now, he is a mid to strong tier, especially with the DLC characters getting top spots and redifining the tier lists. Zangief is the same as Ruy, (meaning in a similar tier spot, considered strong, but the reality is they are not really strong tournament contenders). Both have some fanatic players who understand their matchups & win on neutral (because of having prior character experience & thus understanding the win conditions of Zangief/Ruy). Simply Zangief has more fanatic players, because many Shoto players have abandoned Ruy for Ken/Akuma who are better. We may see some Zangief tourney picks from dedicated Zangief players who didnt play anything else or picked a new main (they will go to more tournaments now that Zangief isnt trash tier).

Gief is as strong as he should've been in season 1. I'm fine with him just being this power level moving forward. The only buff I'd ask for is a slightly quicker start up for level 2. Other than that he's perfect for me.
