but those films do not have her as the main character, she usually plays the female love interest or a side character, the last blockbuster film I can remember where she was the main character was Padmavaat which was almost 6 years ago

The foremost character in pathan and jawan was shah rukh and in kalki it was prabhas, being an imortant character doesn't make you a main character

Why Alia Bhatt is successful. 1. She can act. (Compare to other neop kid like Sara Ali Khan, Annaya Pandey, Janvi Kapoor) 2. Having good filmography. (Not giving too many medorica movies like Shaandaar) 3. Not responding on hate. 4. She is focusing on her craft rather than becoming humble. (Sara Ali Khan & Janvi Kapoor had pretty good debut compare to Alia and showcasing we have middle class nature, down to earth, fake Hindu rather than improving there craft)

Alia is not made for action. Forcefully she wants to touch all criteria character. It looks like gangu bhai n jigra one small kid is trying to act mature. If she still want to do action make ur body like that like priyanka did in mary kom. With zero figure want to do action it is not believeable.
