On day 11 we took on the Finke River 4wd Route. This track was very scenic and a magnificent ride... but pushing through it in half a day was going to test us.
I was originally going to put day 11 and 12 in this one video, but there was so much footage from this track that I ended up with 40 minutes just for day 11.
I know a few people have asked how long it takes to edit these. For this episode, I had 4.5 hours of helmet camera footage, plus a 15 minute drone clip, plus about an hour of Nuno and Oli's footage. Basically I watch it all, cutting out as much as i can in the first pass, then do the edits. Im a bit of a lazy editor, so there is not usually anything fancy. So lets say 7 hours of footage watched twice plus a bit. Total 15 hours work for a 40 minute video. Thank the lord I enjoy watching the footage!
Oli's channel is here: / mokhtario
Thanks to Motoz for supplying the team with tyres, Giant Loop for a discount on bladders and Zarkie for my fancy new jacket!
Thanks for watching. Make sure you subscribe and watch ALL of my videos so that I dont need to answer the same questions every week!

Awsome video to watch , brings back so many memories from august 2018 when I tackled that section myself solo on a klr 685. Rode from Alice Springs via Hermannsburg then south through finke River gorge then off to curtain Springs on dark for the night. Wasn't much water when I passed through and looks like it's changed so much but would have to say it would be the most challenging yet most amazingly beautiful section of our country I have riden. Very well done on your efforts.

What an awesome, but exhausting ride! You guys were all champs for getting thru there in such style, but I can see that a higher speed off or a mechanical could have changed the day very quickly! I do envy the sound of your T7, you did good on that one! Thanks for all the time invested in filming and editing all this footage....great result! Cheers!

The part where you put the line - "even the 250's had trouble through sections" @ 32 minutes - I had my 790 bogged 4 times and needed two guys pushing to help me get out of one of them. I think we went through a few weeks after you - there was less water about. Every time you think it has ended another long stretch of sand would be just around a corner. I looked forward to the rocky bits because I wouldn't get bogged in! I broke my steering damper pin about a 1/3 of the way in so that was interesting. Hardest thing I have ever done. At 56yrs old I should have known better. Great footage, but it really doesn't do the track (if you can call it that) justice.

Yep, I hear you! Not easy. Where I had the fall on film, I was actually there for 3 or 4 minutes before I lifted it up and I sat there for another 3 or 4 minutes drinking my water. One fall and 10 minutes is gone along with an hour worth of energy. Satisfying to get to the end though!

That was outstanding Brendan. What an awesome leg. How long did it take you compared to the 8 hours for a 4wd?
@Nerb1
@Nerb1 Жыл бұрын
They say it is 8 hours from Illamurta springs to Hermannsburg. We passed Illamurta at 1.40 and got to Hurmannsburg at 5.50. So about 4 hours. That morning we came from Curtain Springs, about 200km further south.

Nerb, You have a 16T sprocket on the front (or did you drop 3 in the rear), correct? Did it perform a bit nicer on the road fuel mileage, and rpm wise? Also it looked like it was fine in the sand and loose hilly areas. Was it? Thanks.
@Nerb1
@Nerb1 Жыл бұрын
I have 3 down on the rear. It felt nicer on the highway, but it really made no difference to fuel economy (I thought it would). I did have to use a bit more throttle to take off in the sand. It is noticeable. I will go back to stock gearing when this sprocket wears out.
@JustTex
@JustTex Жыл бұрын
Wow harder then the simpson you say! That might not be for me then haha. Do you adjust your steering damper or tyre pressures ? I would've forgot and just struggled though (not real bright). Also i wonder if the corner man system would've worked since there didn't seem to be a corner! Cheers 4sharing sir.

Just this leg? Or they whole 12000km trip? For just this leg, a 300 two stroke! For the whole trip, I love my T7. Any midsized adventure bike is made for a trip like this. A lot would say the 690/701, but I dont like them on the open road.
