Just a smallish correction: Jenn isn't giving offerings to the Sea Beast, she's trying to figure out what it looks like. She only sees it shadowy figure from a super far distance with the flare, she hides in the log later to protect herself but never actually sees it. It might be harder but you could still, possibly make it. Water would be harder to source but if you go inland you might be able to find a source of fresh water, admittedly you'd need to sterilize it before drinking but you'd still be able to drink it. Also if coconuts grow there, you got a decent chance of other similar conditions fruits like mango and such. You could also find roots, tubers, edible vegetation or even fungi if you know what you were looking for, though that's unlikely. We also see no sign of what inland wildlife there was before the girl burned the play to the ground, there could be snakes or even small mammals like rats or the like. Not to mention the birds and, if you wanted to stay by the coast, the fish. A coconut allergy would make getting water harder sure, but no impossible, and it wouldn't really effect you from a finding food standpoint.

YO NERD! useful survival tip in a situation like this. With the fish, since she had limited items to catch rain water. Another useful way to have preserved the fish at least for about a month maybe two, instead of using the cooler. She could’ve used the tent material and sticks to fashion a smoker set up. Then hung the fish inside the set up, and started a small fire to smoke the fish. By doing this, it would’ve preserved the fish for at least a month, maybe two if she was lucky. Just something for future videos on scenarios like this. 😁😉👍

Personally, having very few skills for long term survival alone on an island, if I could get to the point of catching sharks to use as bait, I'd catch a few to be safe and wait in a open brightly lit area for the creature to come and give it the sharks myself so it can see I'm willing to feed it, maybe some cooked fish too to see if I can get it addicted to something only I can provide. Establish a friendly relationship with a potentially intelligent creature, or die like I probably was going to anyway.
@Shize72 жыл бұрын
this has a small chance of working but if it does you could probably live on that island for weeks
@kitsu13792 жыл бұрын
If you can get to to like cooked food and build a potentially mutually beneficial relationship then you might not even need to be the one who does the catching, since it can catch prey WAY easier then you. However, seeing the pictures of it following the family and the dead bodies, as well as what happened to the buried dead guy, we know it likes people meet. What we don't know is if that's a preference of if it's simply a creature that eats whatever it can get hold of most easily since it did seem to just eat what was left for it when honestly human girl (I've already forgotten her name) would be a bigger meal. Maybe it's not actually a full time predator, but more of an opportunist and it only took to hunting the humans because we lack SO MANY natural defences that most prey species have. It means looking at humans, we're easy pickings if the fish man isn't intelligent. Unfortunately there is too many variables. To test this, when the dead guy washed up, it might have actually been good to put him up and a shark, see when presented with two options, which one it more naturally gravitates too and if it leaves once full or if it just eats everything it can. If it eats its full then leaves, after a few nights watching it do this, if we assume we can convince it we're friendly like you were saying, the safest time to come up to it would be after it's eaten, still present the food, but also keep your weapon ready, let it know that its got a choice, food or pain. Now all this goes out the window if, when presented with choice of shark or human, it prefers human because it's going to eat you but it's an option if the creature has some rudimental intelligence and is able to grasp the idea of not eating you and you feed it. And no, it doing this in the movie is not proof. As I said, it could simply be eating the easiest to claim meal rather then wasting it's energy hunting something it might not find that night. The easy meal is something a lot of animals prefer. It eating and leaving could simply be it eating its fill and therefore not needing to expending energy hunting the girl and so going back to it's home to do whatever it does there, spawning maybe? I dunno. The movie doesn't make it clear the level of intelligence this creature has, I'd probably say it's on the more animal side since it attacked the log when the girl hid there and didn't seem to understand it could just go into the opening to grab her and when hunting it, it didn't try to trick her or trap her, it just chased her down.

@@KrakenWind my point is that in a situation I'm trapped on an island, I have very little chance to survive as I don't have many skills necessary for it, even less with an unknown species of predator. About the coral: Most cases removing things is bad, but in this case it is HIGHLY important, simply because it's coral. Several species of coral actually produce toxins and you can get coral poisoning. Palytoxin is one of the most potent marine toxins, and so removing coral of an unknown species that gets into a wound would be pretty vital in that situation.

Making fire is actually really hard. Getting one on day one or even day three is most likely not possible. I went to the woods a few times to try and make a fire with nothing but a knife and I can tell you that making a bowdrill is not easy. It just isn’t. The concept is simple, the process sounds simple but there are a thousand little things that make the process real hard in practice if you don’t have experience. In survival there is a rule of 3. 3 hours without shelter. 3 days without water. 3 weeks without food. Fire is not a priority right away. Certainly not before you mapped the entire island and all its resources.

Id point out that a fire is critical on an island as they tend to get very cold at night. You could effectively get sick from being too cold and die that way. Fires are always one of the first things you try to get going. Also why you use glass/matches. Bowdrill is going to be the hardest but you can do it from scratch. Having glass/matches certainly helps. Glass for catching the suns rays and starting a fire that way

Better idea: the trap for the final showdown; If the trap was close to the water, the creature might've taken a chance to jump over the fire and retreat into the reef, so what we should do is clear out a large area during the day further away from the water, so that way we don't end up burning our supplies, and we will be literally making the battle field, and make sure to rig up some form of bait, and traps that activate for the monster, so we can lure it more inland into our trap

Let's be honest... I'd probably have done half the dumb stuff she did and to make up for the half i missed i'd probably wind up doing other dumb things. However, yes... once we know we can feed it and it'll just go over and eat... I mean a pit fall trap full of spikes isn't a terrible idea, especially if you can make a few long spears to poke it with once it's fallen in. We just have to make sure that it won't be able to hit us while we're poking it. As soon as i know there's a monster out here I feel like the dead would be willing to forgive some grave desecration as i'm definitely making those long spears' tips out of bone, probably a bone knife or two too. If I can't kill it then I wanna hurt it enough that it knows not to come back. I figure prep for a few days, give it its regular offerings, cover the ground under the offerings with palm fronds and forest debris so it doesn't become suspicious (if it's that smart) when there's suddenly this stuff under it later after i've made the pit. If I'm afraid to poke it due to a fear it might be able to pull me down or something... maybe just fill the death pit with spikes and more leaf debris so i can toss a torch down and burn it to death. If, like the main character, I've already been backhanded through the air then i know it's very strong and might be able to climb out or jump out very quickly, so having plans to hit it as fast as possible are probably for the best.

Hopefully I'll never need your advice, but if I ever do, I'll be sure to let you know when I get back from peril. The coral impalement was a complete clusterfuck, I agree. I wish ppl would stop pulling out impaled objects in TV and movies. Having said that, I think it made sense to remove it in this one case, bcz the alternative was to leave it in place for who knows how long.
