@hwat The UK's so safe - temperate weather, no faultlines, surrounded by water, a powerful military with powerful friends, no volcanoes nor many dangerous animals except for the haggis - so the Emergency Broadcast System is generally used nowadays for heavy flooding or a hurricane. I've never seen it tested (like sending / receiving a TEST message), but it is definitely used for weather warnings. They'll send a text directly to your phone if they think you're in danger.

Even though it's pretty clearly about the people who really liked a certain guy who didn't make it into art school. (The two experiments the family and street are named after were literally done to examine the psyche of those people.) Or they think it's about media in general and ignore that smartphones and the internet are literally shown as disruptive to the creature's plan. The smartphone is the only way anyone manages to get counterevidence to the misinformation, and the creature has to shut off the internet so people can't compare notes online. There's also a strong theme in there about communication between people breaking down and older generations doing wrong by younger ones that I don't see acknowledged much... It's strange how authors can be so in your face with their stories and still not seen.

Because they have authority over us with their doctor knowledge and medical degrees, pheweey to that shit, I have Facebook and validate my beliefs through fringe "doctors" that agree with me. Because honestly, I'm not changing my mind when I do research, I'm just going to look for shit until I find stuff that agrees with me and say that I was right all along while saying everything that disagreed was totally lies and bullshit to peddle health advice. I know this is a "straw man" because I said it in a joking way, but it's entirely true. People don't give a shit about changing their minds when they say they're doing "research". This is the one horror movie that needs a sequel because there is no god damn way the world going to ignore one of the largest sentient computers. I’m not just talking about the governments being scared of it since it has almost limitless capabilities but also because it would be a device that people would try and control

I always wondered about filling the bathtub with "clean" water. Some bathtubs finish have chips on them, people pee in the bathtub, and your dirty feet drag in germs from outside. I cant imagine that water is anywhere near clean.
@speedy012472 жыл бұрын
its having access to water that is the point here, perhaps you might not drink it but the water could be used for other things and is still of some value. (perhaps you could cover the tub with some water tight cover like cling wrap or aluminum foil, though how well that will work is questionable)

17:08 the UK's electrical-cord plugs are actually so solidly over-built, they can easily crack a human head open; they split bricks with little effort. They're like improvised meteor-hammers, so it's not an entirely ridiculous thought to use it as a weapon ('cordless' kettle plugs, often even have a nifty handle on them). He should have disconnected it from the lamp however, that was idiotic.

It's completely implausible that an illegitimate set of instructions would be blindly obeyed by credulous masses up to the point where they inject themselves with a mystery substance that they're assured is "for their own good". What's more, that some people would take advantage of the situation to assume authority they should never possess in order to force others into compliance to gratify their own egos. Completely implausible. Or maybe the movie was an allegory for blindly obeying authorities who demand compliance despite having never proven to genuinely care for anyone.

I mean, the movie had a great set-up. Trapped in a house, paranoia style. Some of the deaths could have a good reason too. But the movie killed off all its characters, when instead they could’ve just stopped the monster at the champagne baseball match. Then had the plot put Angie and Nick as surrogate parents. Would have been way better than whatever the hell this ending was.
