a little tip to make a more translucent paint yourself: Mix white glue with acrylic paint. It's almost like homemade window colours. Or mix the glue with inks or food colouring for an even more translucent look.
@joannecarroll55046 жыл бұрын
Only if you want it to go yellow or peel off over time, PVA/white glue is not UV stabilised.& will dilute & reduce the bond between the polymers (the sticky part of the paint). Alternatively, you could use any of the acrylic mediums which are actually designed to make acrylic paints more translucent & which are made of those same acrylic polymers, thus strengthening the sticky bond. Mediums are commonly used as an adhesive & protective medium in assemblage, decoupage, collage & mixed media for this reason & because they offer UV protection to stop yellowing, peeling or causing a tacky surface to reappear in humid environments like Mod Podge or PVA/white glue does..

@@joannecarroll5504 another thing you could use is clear UV resin (though it might yellow, it's very strong) or polyurethane varnish (it mixes nicely with acrylic paint when you want a glass like look, it has very similar properties to acrylic mediums but dries completely non sticky)

Also if you want you can use a wall scrapper or sculpting tools or lightly sand to flatting out the black hot glue.

I am so in love with the stained glass look, and was so disappointed by my attempts with plastic and paint versions, that I found a class at a local shop and learned how to actually build stained glass windows! It's actually not as hard as you would think, and you probably already have some of the tools and materials.

does it skip at 3:08 for anyone? it went from sanding down the surface to repainting the side of the frame... and the painting is done??

Hi from 2022. I loved this video. You have come a long way with your delivery in your more recent content. But in the big sceme of things you have always been very talented. Obviously as we use talents they develop and grow. I am so happy I have been able to watch you grow.

I feel like you should of done a comparision of it flipped, so that if you like the way it looked u wouldnt of had to paint over the hotglue, and prehaps if you reduced the leds, u could of added a few yellow leds to make it a warmer tone which is what many people see natural light as
@jeske29439417 жыл бұрын
I was also thinking you could have flipped it.
@joannecarroll55046 жыл бұрын
I'm guessing that the people who said that she should have flipped the piece over (& painted the unlined side) are not painters experienced in acrylics. It's much easier & a LOT quicker to do it all exactly the way she did, than to take 3 or 4 times as long, painstakingly following the outlines from the reverse side. Also the colour of natural light differs, depending on where in the world you are. The light in Australia is quite different to the light in the UK & Northernmost North America, which is also different to Mediterranean light. The light on the Northern China border is different to the light in Singapore, Malaysia. I therefore imagine Nordic or Scandinavian light also has a hue all of its own, which was what she was trying to demonstrate here (only brighter LOL).

@@joannecarroll5504 before being so condescending maybe you should actually read what they said, they suggested to flip the whole piece over AFTER she was done painting it with acrylics, so to use the side where john would be on the left and daenerys on the right so that she could have skipped painting the BLACK ACRYLIC paint ON TOP of the hot glue because of the black lines still being visible. Sincerely, an experienced painter and artist, thanks

A dimmer would be a better choice as you would retain the distribution of the light and make it as bright as preferred..

This is a cool project. But I'm not sure about using black hot glue as a faux-calamus, I think using some actual metal would give it a more realistic effect. Also, use a light diffuser behind the acrylic, it'll help even out the lighting and make the edges look less harsh as compared to the rest of the faux-stained glass.

You know that you can wire a LED controller to add depth to your LEDs and they are less than 1.00 USD on ebay, they are a simple RF controller which can fix your issue without having to pull everything back apart, all it does is limit the amount of power going to the LEDs

If you had a large enough 3d printer, you could have made the image digitally and made an STl of the black outlines and printed it then glued it to the acrylic maybe seal it to the acrylic with a matte finish clear coat.
