At this point every room in your house must be a different aesthetic. Wizard study workroom, fallout vault kitchen, the ultimate art and gaming room and now a dark academia gaming room! I just love how you mixed the dark academia aesthetic with a gamer sort of aesthetic. It looks so big boss sort of, scary in the most elegant way possible

@@MrJakson112 "Quality" not in the material sense, but in the design sense. Hence "qualitative interior DESIGN." Nobody said anything about quality materials. Edit: After finishing the video, I can safely say you are completely wrong. It is obvious you just skipped to the end of the video and assumed such a thing. None of the furniture was "fake," seeing as they all serve a functional purpose, and the only Ikea furniture in the video are the HEAVILY MODIFIED bookshelves and ONE SINGLE HEAVILY MODIFIED gaming desk... neither of which NEED to have real wood (but regardless, real wood WAS LITERALLY ADDED). The only "movie set" quality I noticed were the foam decals placed near/on the ceiling. It is clear to me that you are jealous because a tiny woman was able to accomplish such a thing and you cannot. Nobody in their grounded, level-headed mind would watch this video and think "wat de hecks! is fake ikea furnitures?!?! nooooo! :((((" Grow up and get a grip. She's better than you. Accept it.

It might be a little of an unfair comparison since the room was completely empty before. I wonder if the same shelving and furniture were put into the same room but with brighter whites yellows and oranges if it would feel even larger. It's a combination of our acquired association of the particular aesthetic with the spacious, grandiose houses of days long gone and the fact that texture adds depth. Depth is important because it does two things: first, it aids the illusion of space, e.g. you perceive the shelving as space because you can the flat rear surface of them, the wall -- if the shelving had flat cabinet doors everywhere you'd feel claustrophobic in this room and, second, the large, flat, monochrome surfaces of the previous state of the room made it look smaller than it really is, particularly on camera because our brains use visual cues from various objects around us to estimate distances and sizes (and also velocity but that's irrelevant here) and cameras are generally not stereoscopic losing even more 3D information in filming/photographing.

One thing everyone always forgets is that you can always improve inexpensive assemble-it-yourself furniture through the application of real wood veneer and real wood trim on the exposed front edges. Then you can stain it like it were solid wood. So before you assemble the bookshelves, you just cover the top and bottom of each of the panels with veneer, trim the edges, redrill the mounting holes, then trim and glue the wood facing trim to the edges of their respective panels before staining, finishing, and final assembly. Finish the built-ins with more trim molding to make them look integrated into the space. I say this solely because I disdain painted bookshelves when stained wood bookshelves are an option. It's one of those few traditional prejudices that I have with interior decor.

There's a couple of things you could do to make the fireplace more realistic - a light dry-brushing of pewter paint on the 'metal' parts of the fire helps a lot, but the best thing is remove the clear plastic 'glass' of the fire and paint the inside of the glass. A dusting of matt lacquer to make the glass foggy helps to hide the fake plastic fuel and makes the flickering flame effect more realistic, then some brown-black paint around the outside edges to simulate soot build up really seals the deal. I did this with a fake fire years ago and it fooled everyone who saw it.

This is exactly how I did my home office last spring! Everyone thought I was crazy at first when I painted the entire room dark green. For my fireplace I used a 48" Touchstone Electric WiFi fireplace that I just built a frame for using 2X4 lumber and added a mantel above. It has a phone app that lets you set schedules for warming the room before I come down to work in the mornings, and also has all the fun color changing settings and exact temperature settings. For the shelves I used IKEA Billy on the upper like you did, but I used IKEA HAVSTA Upper Cabinets as the lower cabinets. The HAVSTA uppers are almost as shallow as the Billy bookcases above so they don't impede on the space, and they are also taller than most lower cabinets so that it makes the room look taller and I could place the tops of those in line with the top of the mantel of the fireplace. On my shelves I added brass rails and on the cabinet doors I removed the inner pieces and just kept the frames of the doors and then cut and attached brass clover lattice sheet metal. This was originally because the air intake in the room was inside one of the cabinets and I needed air to be able to flow through that cabinet, but it ended up making the entire cabinets look so much more beautiful than they already did. I placed a large dark brown theater lounge chaise in there by the fireplace and now it's my wife's favorite place to hangout with me whenever I'm stuck working late (or gaming). Best room in the house!

Absolutely love this one! I love the aesthetic of the chair. :D Only thing I'd make note of, (not a criticism! you did an amazing job!) The flimsy construction for the chair back is intentional to provide flex so that when someone is sitting in it, it allows them a bit of side to side motion which helps with back support. The plywood takes away that flex making it rigid and paradoxically less good for your back. I doubt it makes a huge difference and honestly it's probably worth it considering the upgrade you did is amazing. But if you do it in the future, maybe find another solution that doesn't compromise the chair's flexibility. :) Just a thought! Keep up the good work!

My room is actually 100% what you were after, all dark antiques, most modern tech hidden or old itself. So I truly relate. Also I too love beautiful picture frames. Love that colour on your walls. Ps the gaming chair in Chesterfield style exists, it's called a captains chair.

10:18 Ugh yeah, it's impossible to get nice details and trims that are 1) actually the thickness and detail you want, and 2) actually not just styrofoam that breaks the moment you breathe on it. I tried looking for some nice trim so I WOULDN'T need to rip off all my wallpaper on one side, but alas, no dice. But those trims you got? Absolutely amazing, gosh, they're gorgeous. What an amazing find!!
@theresabu3000
@theresabu3000 2 ай бұрын
Yeah - they used the trim really well. Even if it took 7 days 🤗😉 I also liked it on the desk. Was at first skeptical that the IKEA Alex combination would look good - but the results convinced me. The airflow covering 😍😇. Not sure how expensive the wood trim is though (together with the time invested) - but yes really beautiful.

I guess you could find a place with a CNC or 3D printer and make your own trims?
@irisbaggins
@irisbaggins 2 ай бұрын
@@sebastianjost The question though, is where? Maybe I'm just a little silly, but I have no idea if anyone/anywhere in my area has that, and doesn't charge way out of my budget :/ I live in a somewhat smaller town in Norway, so I dunno where to even start looking haha I do know some people with a 3D printer, but I honestly think trying to just carve it myself would end up being cheaper and easier XD Filament is expensive (and I know; I sell them at work)

Skjera Bagera, Martina and Hans. New videos from Nerdforge are always one of my favorite things. It's amazing what you 2 brilliant geeks come up with and manage to create. This is no exception. My only comment, which not a critique or complaint in the very least, is how the room started visibly shrinking as the room got darker and darker. It's mind blowing really. It went from stark and almost expansive looking despite it's actual size to so cozy and intimate. Very, very well done you guys. Also, like many others, I didn't actually know you guys were engaged. Heck yeah. Congratulations. You might be the nerd world's best couple.

I can't tell from the shots if this shots. Also great job editing a month's worth of work into a quick < 30 min video.

Absolutely perfect mix of aesthetic and useful. I love that you customise each rooms of your house it's own style, always doing it completly, not just a small touch. That's great. And yes, we all tend to underestimate the time these projects need. We're slowly renovating our own house... With work schedule,with money issue,...some things are still on stand by. But we try to follow a 1year/ 1project planning. It just feel magical to make your home your own one step at a time.

Decanter is the perfect word. It's very old fashioned, but, then, so are the silhouettes of the decanters. There may be a new name for them these days, but, in bygone eras, like the ones depicted in every Dark Academia furnished room: decanters (because, one decants a beverage into them, from which to fill people's drinking vessels of choice, usually glasses) Anyway, I love your videos & enthusiasm & details Congratulations on the engagement 🎉 (Regardless of how long ago it happened, congratulations, nonetheless) Also, thank you for sharing your life and projects with us

My father did something like that a few years ago. He was drilling through a stone wall, though. The drill bit overheated, and when he took the drill out of the wall, it was still slightly rotating. The softened metal became a nice 90 degree bend and gave him a good whack in the forehead. Had to get stitches, but otherwise was okay.

the final result was so cool and amazing and the vibes are immaculate. i do have one critique though, the curtains might have benefitted from a quick ironing or steaming to the fold wrinkles out before putting them up. but those should eventually disappear over time anyway as long as the curtains are heavy enough for gravity to pull out the wrinkles.

This is a fever dream, I love it all. The colors, the trim details, the nook, the fireplace, ahhh y’all have out done yourselves. 😍 My only note is to make all of the lighting the same warm tone, it can be head ache inducing to have cool and warm tones in one space. Or just put all the warm tones on one switch and all the cool tones one the other depending on the task at hand.
