For me, Jurgen Prochnow was a perfect Leto. But got behind Oscar. He pulled it off better than I expected. Rebecca was a very nervous Jessica for me, more clearly freaking out when Jessica's stress in my interpretation of the books, was always under the surface. But they are visibly gorgeous people no doubt.
@BarstucksCoffee3 жыл бұрын
@@harvestmoon_autumnsky I thought that about Ferguson's Jessica too, but I can let that slide because of the runtime constraints Villeneuve had to work with. How I see it is that we still do witness moments that show Jessica's Bene Gesserit training, but because of the runtime issue, Villeneuve wanted to show Jessica's motherhood and her training working against each other and couldn't include all those moments of Jessica's steel resolve without making the movie much longer than it already is. That said, I would very much welcome what all the hardcore fans have been asking for to have WB/Legendary allow an extended/director's cut. The overarching context behind the moments that did make it into the cut is arguably secondary, but the core narrative remains and I would gladly sit through all the deleted scenes Villeneuve forced himself to cut out.

The fact that this was the Sci-Fi novel that started the Sci-Fi boom is absolutely baffling to me. The level of thought that went into the lore is feels like it should be the most recent one. It takes place so far in the future that humans have already created advanced AI, went to war with it, somehow won the war and then collectively banned all kinds of AI/computer technology leading to a sort of reverse renaissance into the religious and mystical. It’s f’ing genius

The themes of the novels are about how man creates governments and religions, the great leader and messiah myths in order to organize and control society and how these things inevitably take on a life of their own that instead give rise to the worst aspects of humanity overriding whatever good intentions they may have started out with. The ecological concurrent theme is also about control, the attempt to bend nature to ones needs and will and the unintended consequences that ultimately shows the futility of the idea of control. Humans most often show an inability to control themselves individually which dooms their attempts to control themselves as a species or the world around them.

Can not wait. (And then Pink Floyd Eclipse as that trailer music). Hopefully I will be out of lock down (Melbourne Australia) before the movie hits the cinema. I also think this was the first time the cast had seen the trailer, which is a great moment to watch their reactions. PS. Interesting fact. Denis Villeneuve has now made 2 movies that had Sean Young in the original. As long as he stops there and doesn't do Ace Ventura : Pet Detective next we're good.

Well, technically the lack of a green screen does not mean "practical effects" at all anymore. There will be lots of set enhancment, digital assets and vfx trickery in those "practical effects" shots.
@donovangallaway36324 жыл бұрын
@@Schmidtelpunkt I mean, probably. But it should still be said that Villeneuve's ability to visually tell a story is (in my opinion) almost a given at this point. Even if there is an abundance of VFX, if his earlier work is any indication it will be appropriate and visually stunning.
@Schmidtelpunkt4 жыл бұрын
@@donovangallaway3632 Arrival certainly showed that. I am just a tad annoyed about that "practical effects" nonsense. At what point will people realize that they buy *all* VFX they don't see and in fact are entirely incapable of seeing the difference between a "practical effect" and CGI in the 99% of the cases where they simply are not aware that something is made digitally? In the 90ies one might have gone through as a connisseur by looking down on anything artifical, but at this point those claims mainly show in which side of Dunning Kruger valley people are.

Herr Schmidt Watch Corridor Crew! They make a lot of VFX videos but they also love shooting practical. It’s just about being smart about using VFX, using it (or not using it) to move the story forward rather than just to showcase tech or skill or resources. That said, it doesn’t necessarily mean that if a movie uses 90% practical shots and effects, it’ll be good. So much comes into making good films, and the primary factors are always the writing and direction. For the plethora of complex ideas and introspection that is Dune, the grandiosity of the physical sets, the artistry in cinematography, and authenticity of costume design may help the epicness of it, but good direction, acting, screenplay, and script are far bigger determinants for success than the visuals. A film can be visually beautiful and award-winning but fail to convey the message or express the story well enough to just leave the viewer in awe for a long time. I really really hope the movie will be amazing and not go Blade Runner 2049 (visually stunning but very dry and a long slog).

By the way, Stephen Colbert is not just a fan like host-said-i-am-a-fan-to-be-polite but he's a genuine Dune geek! HE IS ONE OF US!!!

Timothée is going to be the BEST Paul ever! I also think Jason Momoa will probably do the best part in his career, mark my words it’s gonna be a game changer for both of them.

Let's hope Dennis is able to bring the entire series to the big screen. Jason's role is far from over!

Timothee is absolutely going to crush this role. I’ve never had such a good feeling about a casting of one of my favorite characters.

Shin Yagami Not all of us (depends from what birth year you start counting 😂) I read the book I saw Lynch’s version (actually the studio editted his movie not to his liking or approval so I believe Lynch dislikes the movie) I saw Jodorowsky’s vision in the documentary, I saw the tv series, I really think this is something else, it looks good, it looks grounded and realistic , and it looks beautiful. To all the people saying “It looks like Star Wars” , you fools, Lucas took many ideas from Dune 😎

"They didn't shoot jaws in a swimming pool" Dennis Villeneuve Such a a legend and a true filmmaker at heart... Combine that with the talent of Timothée chalamet und you got a great movie

One pick-up shot was filmed in the editor's swimming pool by Spielberg himself. Get's a big scare from audience (an me too).

Probably commented on elsewhere - but I think this was the first time the cast saw the trailer too. It's fun to watch each and everyon'e reaction going in - excitement/trepidation and coming out of the trailer - pure joy. Love it

Timothee seems like a perfect choice to play Muad'Dib. This cast is a freakin' dream.

The little bit where they talk about how Denis Villeneuve understands how central Jessica's decisions are to the story are a key indicator that, unlike previous adapters, Villeneuve understands Dune. I cannot wait to see this movie.

Timothee has the most intelligent and intense stare, you can see his brain going at a million miles and then he opens his mouth and says the most artful, wise beyond his years answer. I love Zendaya but watch her pale in comparison in this interview. That boy is definitely heading for Daniel Day Lewis status.

perfect casting for paul
@toni37623 жыл бұрын
I agree. I think it’s because he has come close to academic reading and theory and studied at Columbia university something like cultural anthropology - lots of sociology theory I bet. People who have never read sociological and cultural theory don’t have that vocabulary and the words he so wonderfully incorporated. It’s very interesting to hear an actor speak this way - but it’s really not normal.
@celestenguyen86563 жыл бұрын
I agree Timothee is wise beyond his years, wonderful gifted actor and is heading for The great quality acting of Daniel Day Lewis.
@shumayelkhan81543 жыл бұрын
I am so glad someone else picked up on this. The first half of the movie with Paul was some of the best acting I’ve arguably ever seen, and I know how to pick em! Voila!
@JungleLarry3 жыл бұрын
Chalamet is a wonderful actor, but your comment shows utter disrespect for Day-Lewis' body of work, which proves versatility infinitely more than Timothee has been able to display in his young career. If anything, he's at risk for being typecasted as the ever-angsty teenager until he grows a few gray hairs.

I can feel Stephen's passion and it's definitely shared. People don't know how huge this is--we need a Dune in the golden age of VFX
