Imo that the first three episodes released together is an indicator they were meant to be watched back to back. Its what I did and I'm liking this series more than any star wars thing since Rogue One.

I think the breaks do make sense. The first episode ends with him looking for his sister, and ends with perhaps the last time he saw her. As I posted on the episode 2 video, the second episode ended with Luthen being told "If you can't find it here, it's not worth finding", with a cut to Andor.
@crewtang2 жыл бұрын
To go off with the breaks, this is 2022. No matter how much I love watching hour + episodes of TV, I think the majority of the world does not. People have shorter attention spans and and wants everything all at once, hence the Netflix binge model. As I watch this show, I go with it as it's probably going to be multiple three or six episodes arcs with it being two 12 episode seasons. Kind of like how the Star Wars movies have three "episode" arcs.
@MadSlantedPowers2 жыл бұрын
@@crewtang Yes, but quite often people will complain when the episodes are too short. I don't usually have the time or attention span to binge multiple episodes. However, I tend to binge reaction videos. So, I like the weekly model, so I can watch the episode, followed by watching several reactions.

Editing aside, I had no intention of watching this but these episodes totally hooked me. That ending showing how Andor was saved as a child and now being brought into the rebellion is how to make an audience fall in love with a character 101 👌🏾

I'm surprised the structure is bothering you both so much. Didn't bother me at all. I like that the show is artfully unfolding and not telling the audience where it's going. I just sit back, and breathe in the everyday Star Wars. It's refreshing.

If you look at the crashed ship, there is a yellow gas leaking from it. I think the dead are yellow from that. I think some of these characters will be relevant in the future, not all of them are throw away. And you said last episode this show is political. That shooting of Bix's... well ex at that point, was a pretty accurate mirror. That hit hard. I don't think all of the citizens care if they are in danger given their already built in warning system. Pretty sure they hate the Empire already. Oh and I absolutely love the rotator loading a new Tibanna charge on Cassian's blaster this episode. I want that blaster. I want to start a blaster collection after this.

I loved that the flashbacks were connected to the present storyline, they did a great job creating parallelism, it reminds me of how JJ Abrams mastered this technique in “Lost”. This was flashbacks done right, enhancing the story vs “Book of Boba Fett” where it was a distraction and felt disconnected. Agreed, it should have been one episode, when taken as a whole I really enjoyed it, the slow burn with great payoff, feels like it could be one of the best shows yet in the SW universe.

They definitely didn’t need the breaks in-between episodes. They could have cut some fat and done just one episode. They knew people were going to binge watch the three so time shouldn’t have been too much of an issue. that’s why they released them together. I wonder if maybe they knew that the show started off a bit slow and that’s also why they released them all together.

This is a really well-written show, which is refreshing. Don't get me wrong; I am really enjoying this show, but ya, why do companies feel the need to break up what should be a pilot into multiple episodes? Why is that? Pilots aren't a new thing ... they've been done regularly in the past .... please, someone explain to me why this is done ... and it's not just Disney doing it ... and if it's to make more money, I think they would be better served with one good pilot that people will rave about, then leaving some wondering why the split was necessary.

Now in all seriousness, I completely agree with you guys ! These 3 episodes were individually cut as whack... but as a pack, it punched waaay above its weight class ! I'm very excited to see where it's going. The characters, the look, the writing (Star Wars with some snappy, crisp & non corny dialogue !? What a breath of fresh air !), the almost Blade Runner-esque vibe, the dread, the tension (these 12 men squads felt more menacing than all the stormtroopers platoons of the entire Star Wars decalogy - Counting Rogue One), and yes, the music as well, carving its own identity in a universe so filled with cult classic soundtracks... Everything on this show screams quality ! If the last trilogy was the nail on the coffin of Star Wars, and the Mandalorian was its Renaissance, Andor feels like it's gonna be its Ascent. To a new level we never expected Star Wars could attain. And after the wet farts that Book of Boba and Obiwan were, that is so welcome !

Love your reactions. I was so happy to see in your episode 1& 2 reactions that I wasnt crazy about feeling like the way those episodes ended was weird. There have been many times watching other shows where an edit between scenes stays dark slightly longer than normal and I have said to myself "how can the episode end here this isnt an end?" However in those shows there was actually another scene in Andor episodes 1&2 there wasn't which felt awkward. Episode 3 was much better overall, not that I felt the other episodes were bad I just wanted more from them. To be honest I want to know how many people who watched the trailer then the Andor special look from Disney+ Day felt the show's first episodes were slow versus those who went in clean only knowing the show existed? The reason for wondering is simply because I wonder if this was a poor marketing decision with what they presented publicly. In general when a show gives you an extended look or a sneak preview scene the scene comes from the opening scene or from some point in the premiere episode. I think the Disney+ day Andor clip being from episode 3 it was a mistake because the scene did everything to set up the series but by being from episode 3 those who saw it wanted to get to it to see what happens next. That basically made episodes 1 &2 to feel slow. Additionally the trailer was 90% action & intrigue from the other 9 episodes it turned out which is a bit of a reversal of how most shows present trailers nowadays. Nowadays trailers focus un the earlier episodes to avoid spoilers from later in the season. The Andor trailer basically hide the first 3 episodes content. Which is why I want I want to know if the reception from those who went in clean was more positive since they had no expectation of the teaser scene or trailer intrigue? Last couple points... If this series wasn't Star Wars I dont know how many people would have made it to episode 3 even with all 3 episodes dropped on day 1? I am not saying in the end this couldn't be the best Star Wars series I am just pointing out it feels like storytelling liberties were taken knowing they had a built in audience other new series without a beloved brand couldn't. Lastly I am sick of Disney+ runtimes. I get that do to the number of visual, audio & CGI effects along with international releases with audio casts in foreign languages make the end credits long. However they are too long and cause the runtimes to be absolutely misleading. Episode 1 was said to be 42 mins it was 35 (83%) of show 7 min of credits (17%). Episode 2 38min runtime 2 min recap (5%) 30 mins of show (79%) 6 mins of post credits (16%). Episode 3 43 min runtime 3min recap/intro (7%) 33 min of show (77%) end credits 7 min (16%). Now contrast that with House of the Dragon's premiere not including weeks ahead or extra & second episodes (which has a recap/intro) Episode 1 Runtime 66 mins 63 mins of show (95%) 3 mins of credits (5%). Episode 2 56 min runtime 3mins recap/intro (5%) 51 mins of show(91%) 2 min of end credits (4%). House of the Dragon is just as difficult to produce which requires a lot of people that deserve credit while also being an international release so why is it they can do there credit more efficiently than Disney+ not to be misleading about runtime? Or is the real question does Disney+ purposely drag out credits & intros as a way to be intentionally deceptive about runtimes? Maybe I am being petty & the only one bothered by their runtime breakdown I just feel like credits should account for less than 10% of a shows runtime.

Completely agreed on the pacing issues. It's the biggest flaw of the show. But the show is EXCELLENT, other than that. It's just Eps 1-3, 4-6, and 8-10 should have been single episodes.
@obijuan-kenobi51172 жыл бұрын
Nerdy you were exactly right at the end about episode breaks and structure. They talked about this a while back, that they went into the writing process with a pre-meditated episode structure, with four 3 episode chunks each covering a different period of time, with each chunk being put together by different people... That's the biggest weakness so far, and has me a bit worried moving forward about continuity. The pre-determined 3 episodes hurt the storytelling because it had too much filler to make it 3 episodes. That could've been 1 really tight, high quality 80 minute episode as a great opener, but instead it's a meh 2 episodes and 1 good episode. Really wish they would've written the story first, then determined what the best structure would be to tell that story in a compelling way. My opinion is this is the issue with big corporations like Disney making dictates rather than the creatives being in full control. Anywho, great reactions on these!
