why it is mandatory that, before any surgical (invasive) procedure Patient should be NPO for 4 to 6 hourse why ??

due to numbness from the Anesthesia and if the patient eats before the procedure, it can cause aspiration that can also lead to pneumonia aspiration. I guess this explanation is helpful. Still a student as well
