I really like a lot of the mid summer 90 and onwards action games on the NES. I think it was just a combination of both the memory they could stuff into a cart and action games in general coming into their own at the same time that made a lot of those titles just really good and a lot of them were one-offs (like VICE). I'd also add Low G Man into the mix. Yeah, it's a stupid 'super hero', but the game has some cool mechanics and I really dug that each vehicle he can drive has 'secret moves', which as the walker's mega jump which is used to find secret areas.

For me, it's Hebereke (localized as Ufouria: The Saga, but you're better off playing the Hebereke translation patch). A Hebereke sequel could have been amazing. There is a lot of room for a unique, Metroid-like adventure platformer to evolve in the jump to 16-bit. While it is out of the scope of 'retro' consoles I'd like to point out that a remake (or more like reimagening) of a Boy and his Blob came out on the Wii. I played it and loved it. It has charm, many puzzles and is a lot more forgiving when it comes to game structure. Instead of having one giant map you have to complete many smaller levels, each giving you a small selection of various jellybeans. Use them correctly to finish the level. There are even boss fights in this one too. Definitely recommend.

Idk if anyone is aware but Kickmaster and Low G Man were programmed by an icon by the name of Mr. Yagawa that made Battle Geregga and Batrider, Bakraid, Ibara, Recca, and Muchi Muchi Pork and Pink Sweets. He started how high it's cool how is career developed started with KID. He is still around working with City Connection.

I owned A Boy and His Blob on GB. It frustrated me but I remember that got to finish it once.

Felix the Cat was a great rental game. I rented it a couple times. It was short and easy, but lots of fun. As a kid that had not much money to spare it says a lot if I rented a game more than once.

I would love to see a sequel to Gimmick some day, not just Exact Mix, but a full-on sequel to the original game, maybe with a hand-drawn sprite style.
