The Wii was amazing......to play, but this was beginning of Nintendo's downward spiral of actual console design.....that just recently hit the bottom of the barrel with the Switch 2. Don't get me wrong, the big N is my favorite, but as someone interested in gaming at home, on a TV, with an actual home console that is attractive, easy to find a place for, and not a nightmare to change games in.......the Switch 2 is a big sigh for me. The games will be amazing, and I will get one......but sigh. The point is, the Wii was fun, but ugly and awkward......and that console trend continues to this day.

@@SonicMaster519it 1000% was underwhelming. Plus let’s not pretend like this console looks revolutionary like the ps5 and Xbox series… joycons look worse than the old ones and it’s the same design. Should’ve made it possible to play old Nintendo DS carts. But noooooo let’s just make magnet joycons and put them on the same console you bought 6 years ago. Same games as the old one and maybe we will release games for it in a few years. Do we really expect Nintendo to just drop the og switch and switch oled? The new Mario kart more than likely will be a switch 1 and 2 game. Like how most Xbox and ps games that first came out worked for the old ones too

You can tell by the promo that Nintendo had a lot of ideas for the WII U but no collective vision on what it was supposed to be as a gaming experience. I mean much like the Switch it was trying to bridge the gap between casual and traditional gaming. But while the Switch focuses on malleability ("here's 100 ways to play, pick yours"), the Wii U felt more like a compromise. Notice how the "big" new feature was for an EXTREMELY circumstantial scenario where you'd be able to play on handheld mode if someone else at home wants to use the TV. It felt like a console for big white families and no one else.

Man, I was so jazzed by the WiiU trailer when it came out and, watching it again now, I can still see why. What a cool idea for an immersive experience. It was ahead of its time in so many ways. Sad it failed to hit its mark. Still love the idea of second-screen gaming.

Very Cool Collection. I was born in 1985, watched a lot of T.V. as a kid, and owned nearly every one of these consoles, and the only commercials/reveals I can remember seeing in their times are the Nintendo Wii "We Would Like to Play" ad and the Switch reveal.

You can tell the Switch pushed Nintendo to think long and hard on how to effectively communicate their product's value to any and all consumers. The only ad that can compare is the "Wii would like to play" campaign. That one's probably more charming, but it's still hard to beat the effectiveness of the original Switch reveal.

But when i saw my neighbors gray Family Computer (NES, US version), i find it wierd looking. but played the same games. i still like the Family Computer more. The last modern console that i bought for myself was the Nintendo WII. i was about to buy Switch but got too busy with lots of things. Now its looks like i might get a Switch 2. :)

People complaining the Switch 2 is just a bigger, more powerful Switch and they are not innovating. Well this collection of adverts prove Nintendo have a track record of releasing the same console with minor tweaks. I mean how many Gameboys have there been? I lost count! Also, man adverts were so much better in the 80s and 90s. Everything is so safe and bland now.

The Wii U ad makes it look like a screen controller add-on for your Wii. You can see why it failed. It was so badly explained, the system itself wasn't even mentioned. They should've called it "Wii 2" and showcase the console's graphical capacities and rounder design first, with the gamepad being presented at the end, a quick montage of what it could do, but not put all the focus on it and it alone. Also that early prototype gamepad really looks like a Wii add-on accessory.
