I give the second one credit for trying to do something completely different than the first NES game, but it feels like it's more under the radar because of the odd choices in gameplay mechanic. I think the original SNES title was a stronger game than both, but there's a weird difficulty curve in the train and football levels.

I had an audio cassette recorder that I used to record "Istanbul," "particle man," and "do you love me," right off the TV set. It was my first experience with all those songs and since they were on Tiny Toon Adventures, I assumed they were all modern songs. I asked our school bus driver to play my tape. I was rocking out to some They Might Be Giants plus some 50 year old song by The Contours like they were the hottest new singles!

Most of those were all Konami games except that last one - Konami should really do a “Tiny Toons Collection” like they did with all their old Ninja Turtles titles recently. The Montana Max mansion level keeps killing me. Anyway you can make it easier by using some of the characters in different levels: 1. Besides gliding Plucky is the best swimmer. It's like having a frog suit in Mario 3 2. In that forest level and others there's a few places with breakable walls. Dizzy s spin attack can break those 3. I've never found Furball all that useful but there are a few places to climb up

I had a copy of Tiny Toon Adventures. When I got to the woods stage that recommended Dizzy Devil, I'd just go with Furball the cat because by climbing over the trees I'd avoid a lot more enemies than using the limited tornado spin to bust through the destructible blocks at ground level. Eventually I figured out how to trigger the bonus stage to try for more extra lives (you needed a multiple of 11 carrot count).

As soon as you mentioned the geek out moment, I knew you were talking about the They Might Be Giants music videos. When I saw those as a kid, my brain melted in the best way. I literally could not believe what I was watching. And you mentioning it here makes my middle school self feel seen and understood in a way that I cannot adequately put into words. Also, I use the first Elvira boss as an “extra lives” hack to stock up on lives. Since the first stage is so easy, you likely won’t die and you can just repeatedly grab the extra life every time and then let Elvira punt you back to rinse and repeat.

I had the first Game Boy game. You could switch between three players (Buster, Plucky, and Hampton) at any time, but the only difference in their performance is that they throw different fruits and veg that have different properties. Buster had an arching carrot, Plucky had a spiking pineapple, and Hampton had a bowling ball watermelon. With the exception of one of the last bosses where the watermelon was absolutely necessary, there really wasn't too much of a difference for me. I rarely used them and just turned them in for points at the end of the level.

I was in middle school and JUST discovered the local college radio station, so neck deep in all sorts of alternative music. I didn't know TMBG by name, but I definitely did recognize the voice. I had probably heard Ana Ng, but hearing the songs in Tiny Toons made me quickly throw in a VHS tape so I could read who did the music! That was the coolest thing ever, until I realized a few years later I could just call the college station with a band name, and they'd play a song! This game was fun, it was a rental for me, I think I finished it

Also, the world order I went for each world with for each character were the following: World 1: Furball, World 2: Plucky due to his ability to swim easier, World 3: Dizzy, and the last stages, I stuck with Furball. Trust me on this, I played the game a lot back then and I figured out how to get through the stages (considering I saw you trying to use Dizzy during the swimming level).

Konami has a solid track record when it comes to Tiny Toon Adventures video games. Among some of the most memorable are this NES game, Babs' Big Break on Game Boy, Buster Busts Loose on SNES, and Buster's Hidden Treasure on Sega Genesis. I'd love for Konami to release them and the other six games in a compilation for modern consoles like they did for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Rocket Knight Adventures. Josh Fairhurst, the head of Limited Run Games, had actively been trying to get a compilation, not just of Konami's Tiny Toons games, but their Animaniacs games as well, released for three years. Unfortunately, when he contacted WB for the licenses, they turned him down, claiming that the revenue opportunity was too small for them. This is despite the fact that both Tiny Toons and Animaniacs had been brought back for modern audiences as part of reboots; Tiny Toons Looniversity for the former, and Animaniacs (2020) for the latter. I personally blame David Zaslav for this, as he is a sexist, racist, anti-animation bigot unfit to run Warner Bros.. I made an entire video rant on this subject and I recommend seeing it.

This was one of my favorite games of my childhood. In Europe we mostly had knockoff NES consoles (it was around 2002-2005 when I played almost everyday). Games were cheap, pirated cartridges were imported from Russia and China (this is why so many japanese games were popular in western and central european countries and were impossible to play in US...) and OH. MY. GOD. Tiny Tunes and Chip n Dale were one of the most beloved franchises in Poland. I don't mind that I played pirated versions back then. For us it was this or free PC games from gaming magazines...

Tiny Toon Adventure on Game Boy is a much more streamlined affair. You get to choose between Buster, Plucky and Hamton at will (they have different attacks), and you also rescue one of the minor characters in each world and play as them for a short while (in like, a setpiece segment designed for them.) Hence, it has tighter level design, not much repetition, and some variety. It has nice boss fights, too. It's not a hard game though... but there is a hard mode to choose, so that's nice.
