we call it enhancement mode in D-MOSFET, bcoz as positive Vgs applied through gate , the width of n channel between source and drain increases due to the flow of electron from p type substritute into n type channel. Hence drain current also increased due to the width of n-channel, thus the drain current enhances so we called it enhancement mode.

Sir you mentioned that we cannot take vgs positive in jfet but sir in the book milliman's integrated electronics they have taken vgs positive in the graph...
@ajinkya79596 жыл бұрын
It's not taken positive because it results in forward biasing, so, extremely large amount of current can flow through it, thus causing damage to the fet.
@RahulSharma-kz9lw7 жыл бұрын
can anybody tell what happen if vgs is open rather than vgs is 0 case?
@deweshbhardwaj99627 жыл бұрын
no baising to gate, neither forward nor reverse. hence no conduction in any case.
@twilight77133 жыл бұрын
positive gate-to-source voltage has “enhanced” the level of free carriers in the channel compared to that encountered with VGS = 0 V.For this reason the region of positive gate voltage on the drain or transfer characteristics is referred to as the enhancement region, with the region between cutoff and the saturation referred to as the depletion region as it depleted no. Of free electrons by recombination process.
