I've had both and honestly prefer the Plus. For one, it is quieter! You can also turn it off by pushing down on the lever thing for a few seconds :)

I’ve had my PLUS for a year now and love it…. I noticed you had left a capsule in the Plus…if I may, you should eject your capsule immediately after making your coffee…it’s best for the long term in respect to keeping the injector and spinning action action from becoming dirty.

Great video! I got introduced to Nespresso by my daughter in law. She has a Next. I didn't know the difference, so I went online and ordered what I thought was the same machine. When it arrived it was a Plus. I really, really like the plus so much better than the next.

Thanks for the review! I'm a little late to the Nespresso game, but finally decided to purchase one. And which one did I buy???? I went with the Vertuo Plus for a couple reasons. The first is the ease of opening and closing the top with just one touch. The second is the reports I've heard of the Next sounding like a jet plane taking off. Of secondary considerations is the larger (and moveable) water tank and the overall aesthetics--I prefer the look of the Vertuo Plus.

I have both machines, my vertuo plus i had for 2 years started playing up so i purchased the vertuo next. So far I've noticed the vertuo next is about 3 times as loud, doesnt heat the coffee as well, and the crema dissappears twice as quick

Good choice. I purchased the Next and it leaked profusely right of out the box! Apparently there’s an engineering flaw with the gasket inside. I took it back to the store at Bloomingdale’s and there was a Nespresso representative there. She actually advised me to ‘stay away’ from the Next. She heard too many complaints and felt that they introduced the product out too quickly. That being said, she told me to get the Vertuo model. She owns one and have made ‘1,000’s’ with zero issues. I would avoid the Next.

Loved your review. I tried Vertuo Next which was not as smooth and hot compared to Vertuo Plus Premium. They both worked fine...no leaks/problems. However, I prefer Vertuo Plus b/c of the smoothness and temperature. Also, Vertuo Plus, Premium doesn't do the bluetooth wifi. But, Nespresso told me, you should descale/clean after 300 cups. 😍

Great video. We've had the Plus for 2 years and love it. The opening mechanism for the Next just seems clunky vs the smooth opening of the push on the bar for the Plus. Looks like you'd need both hands as well. And I don't need to have WiFi or Bluetooth connectivity on my coffee maker.

great video - wish I'd seen it before I bought my machine BUT - I made the right choice & bought the Plus...from a guy that didn't like the coffee and wanted rid....cost £35!! Important advice I would've added to the video: the pod's are patented so can't be copied yet so need to be very careful when seeing other brands at the shops saying "Nespresso compatible" because they are NOT compatible with the Next or Plus models!! These new machines require the real brand pods so be aware you have a machine that makes top quality coffee, and that means pricey pods.....unless you choose to mess about with re-foiling used pods...but WHY get a great machine with great coffee pods if you're just going to cheat and do your own messy thing. If you can't afford the real pods, then choose a different brand and machine.

If I can comment about something this reviewer mentions in the video about the looks of machines, it’s not the most “accurate” description. She compliments the Verturo Plus having the metal finishes while criticizing the Next plastic finishes. She is comparing a “premium” model of the Plus vs a Standard model of the Next. The next also also models that have chrome and metal finishes for the machine and cup stand. I felt that was an unfair comparison but overall good review

Thank you, for this detailed comparison! It’s really helpful even for me, and I know a lot about Nespresso, lol. There’s at least one more important difference for Vertuo Next that might tip the balance towards it, though. It has a sixth size of capsule. 18 oz coffee, which is the biggest of them all. It brews a medium carafe size, a so-called pour-over style coffee. It creates less crema and it will brew for around 3 minutes, which, if you are familiar with the coffee brew styles, is essential to pour-over style, longer brew that is. And also since it has Bluetooth connectivity it’s an investment worthy of a few years, since it’s upgradable to any new size of a capsule or style of coffee that Nespresso is coming with next. I love this brand for its commitment to innovation on one hand and their concern about the environment on the other hand. I guess, if it was otherwise, they wouldn’t be able to sign George Clooney, lol.

I was watching your review of the machines because here in Spain the Vertuo system JUST came out (so late compared to the rest of the world), so I needed a bit of context to decide. It was all great, but the moment I've put my like is when you measured the liquid temperature, which was an "OK this review is great" to me. From a machine point of view I am disappointed because my design choice was the Vertuo Next, because of the beautiful bronze colour, but for what I see the older machine performs better in any way. Quicker to start, better crema, while the Vertuo seems to be dripping water before starting and after finishing, and the crema really is just foam, full of bubbles and disappearing quickly compared to the one made from the Plus. Thank you for making this comparison!

I read they are identical, only difference is appearance is slightly different but the mechanics and coffee brewing are exactly the same. I was curious too so I looked it up. Nespresso uses 3 companies to build the machines: Breville, DeLonghi and KitchenAid I think. KitchenAid doesn't make Vertuo models.

Have you tried using the refillable capsule with your own coffee in either machine That would be my main motivator for buying into the Nespresso system. Using my own espresso coffee vs using the more expensive Nespresso pods all the time.

Unfortunately I bought the Next. My machine stopped working after two months of usage. Nespresso sent me a replacement machine. The replacement stopped working after four days. Do not bye the vertuo next!
