No buoyancy problems there. Did you go into shock? I am sure you know there a lots of really brilliant bilge pumps on the market of the non electrical type. A buckets great for shifting lots of water but becomes less efficient as the level drops, a high capacity whale pump would clear those last few inches very rapidly, a necessity in sever weather.

Hi David, The water was quite refreshing, especially since the boat was floating nice and high! I've thought about adding a high capacity pump, in fact, a friend who also sails a Ness has one mounted behind the rear bulkhead which he can pump while sailing. It's a very tidy setup and one I should probably add to my to-do list.
