Hi again, Sim. I'm having trouble getting an open NAT on my PS4 through the netduma. What is this DHCP lease you mention at 10:36 in the tutorial - maybe this will help? Where do you get those reserved numbers from to add a static IP. Any numbers I try and put in the R1 tells me that "those numbers are already assigned". So basically: what is a reserved IP address; where do obtain on; and will it help to get an open NAT?
@simjc749 жыл бұрын
+Barbara hammersley Right, so what you do is tick the box next to it, and enter a number. 100 to 250 using defaults. Also some times open NAT doesn't work due to some upnp issue with the PS4. Close COD. Goto the router, settings, upnp. Then untick enable and click apply; then refresh the page (F5), and tick it again and click apply (it clears the upnp out). Then load COD, and open NAT should be there.

Excellent stuff, Sim - thanks very much :) I had trouble finding icons on my geo-filter so I've learn't to leave it off until black ops loads up to the "find a game" menu in multiplayer and then I enable it. Works fine now. Can I just say that when my netduma arrived last week the virtual tour kept crashing at stage 3/17 so I referred to your vids for completing my set-up. It really is no gag - this router really works in combating lag; more so with games like advanced warfare and the terrible skill-based matchmaking servers. Now I leave the filter over the UK and all my games are under 40 m/s ping (puts a smile on my face when I see all the blocked players with, supposedly, the same skill as me trying to connect from all over the world). It gives you confidence when rushing, knowing that all your bullets are going to count. Starting to enjoy this game now. Great work, Sim.

Just what I was looking for. Im curious though and not sure youll answer me since the vid is from Jan, but do you see much difference between ISP modem>R1>devices opposed to ISP modem>home router>R1>devices because their site seems to say the R1 needs to be plugged in directly to your ISP Modem ? +stang7043 I have not directly plugged the R1 into ISP modem yet; waiting for their traffic shaping (bandwidth control feature) to come out in a future firmware update before I do that. Hello, thanks for the video. I am contemplating buying this as I am a console FPS player in a house with at least 2 stream users and 1 skyper. My console is plugged through PLC (internet through current) and I was wondering if it would work for me. and if yes, should i plug it straight to the modem and before the plug or if i could plug it after the cpl plug (effectiveley hiding it from my housemates)... Thank you
@simjc749 жыл бұрын
+Arnaudconda Kesa So I assume you currently have a router (or your modem is a modem/router). So if you have 2 uploaders (streamers) you will probably want the netduma to help out, by making sure no one hogs the upload affecting your gaming. So I would suggest Modem -> Netduma -> Powerline adapter (internet through current as you referred to it) -> Console
@jelly0606929 жыл бұрын
Apologies if you explained it in the video and I missed it, but if I was to buy this router, and I already own a modem-router combo, essentially I would have two wifi connections for my household to use, correct? Also, if there was two different connections, would my house mates need to be connected through the R1 specifically vs the modem-router for them to appear on the prioritization? Again apologies if you answered this! It's 6AM here.
@simjc749 жыл бұрын
+Jelly Yes you would have 2 wifi connections, and two different home networks, and they cannot see each other. So if you wish to use device prioritisation, they will have to connect to the netduma wifi.

Why do you have to assign the r1 a spot on your home router. I thought being wired it doesn't need it. Where do I get the numbers for the r1 if I need to enter it on my netgear r7000 thanks bud
@simjc7410 жыл бұрын
Jay Marchese It does not have to be hooked up to your home router, it can be hooked up to your modem. If you are refering to the MAC address of the R1 to reserve an IP address, you should see that under the DHCP section where it lists MAC addresses and IPs that it has given all devices on the network.
@wickedout20108 жыл бұрын
One thing he should add if your only using this fo your xbox live the modem router your ISP has provided is good for your WIFI and other consoles. I have one xbox hooked to the Netduma and that one is hard wired. I don't see any issues of changing the wifi to Netduma when the routers wifi is working perfect. And at $200 price tag it better work the lag I've received while gaming on my xbox one. Do really need the netduma wifi or just use your existing wifi connection? Other then that everything seems to be working great. Thanks for the great walk-through video.
@simjc748 жыл бұрын
I always recommend gaming using ethernet cable and not wifi. The wifi signal on the netduma is a strong one, and seems pretty reliable. You can still use wifi to game if you want, but since the purpose is to reduce lag. I do not game on wifi. Yes it is not a cheap router, and it is not a magic bullet. If PSN/XBL are having problems, or the game servers or your ISP is having problems the Netduma cannot fix that. I'm glad you enjoyed my walk through video. _Sim_

Got a question if you plugged netduma into your isp modem/router do you have to any tinkering with the settings on the ISP modem/router to get it working or simply it just work by plugging the netduma into the isp modem/router?
@simjc748 жыл бұрын
If you are plugging into an ISP modem/router, then no you do not need to do anything special. If you are plugging into a modem, then yes. So for the modem/router scenario, you connect an ethernet cable from your ISP router and plug that into the WAN port on the netduma and that is it.
@Blankaa9 жыл бұрын
Did you plug the netduma into the tp-link WAN port? or does the bandwidth control work through the LAN ports also?
@simjc749 жыл бұрын
Blankaa The TP-Link WAN port is connected to the modem. The Netduma's WAN port is connected to the TP-Link's LAN port. TP-links bandwidth control affects LAN ports and wifi.

Hi Sim great channel, just subbed. I'm trying a similar setup with a TP Link as main router and then the Netduma for the PS 4. any chance you could post a video on what the Lan settings are on the Netduma? I'm getting stuck with connecting the two routers. excuse my ignorance. cheers
@simjc749 жыл бұрын
+Jacques Gerber Thanks. Networking can be complicated, and there are differing levels of complexity and stuff that is way beyond me too, so don't worry. Okay, so connecting your routers. When logging onto the netduma it will tell you its MAC address. On your main router, go into the address reservation and type in that MAC address and give it a LAN/reserved IP address. For example, lets say you assign it 192.168.0.150. Your main router will see your netduma as 192.168.0.150, and your netduma will report its WAN IP as 192.168.0.150, and its IP as 192.162.88.1. The reason I assign the netduma a reserved IP address, is so that upnp works well; meaning better gaming without having to do any manual port forwarding. Hope that helps.

Im very happy with the duma I've seen my cod lag decrease so much. Question, on the device manager page I don't have a red line connecting from the router to my ps4 is this because your duma is your primary? I have my duma and my base router linked so could that be the reason? Also I'm having some trouble with my NAT on my ps4 its says I don't have one.
@simjc7410 жыл бұрын
If your ps4 has an ethernet cable plugged directly into the duma and the ps4 is switched on, then I would expect to see a red line. Remember my setup is modem -> tplink router -> netduma r1 router -> gaming console. If you have a similar setup to mine (you mention linked); make sure NAT and upnp is enabled on both. Assign a reserved IP address to your R1, and on your R1 assign a reserved IP address to your PS4. You should then have an open nat. You may need to put your R1 into a DMZ if it does not report open.

Only recently, i.e. since my modem speed test video, do I now have it as the primary router. My old home router is the second router in the chain. I still half my house partitioned off into the other network for bandwidth control reasons. The choice is yours.

will the netduma still work if its connected to a range extender and not the router itself?

From the geofilter perspective yes. Obviously the congestion control will only affect what is connected to it. So you will have two home networks (1) your home router/modem and (2) netduma.

The main advantage of this router is controlling who geographically you game with. So it stops you gaming with gamers on the other side of the world. If you have good games the majority of the time currently then save your money and enjoy playing cod. If you are getting very hit and miss experience then it might be worth considering.

So I've been having some stuttering in games where people will be slowing down and they quickly move almost like rubberbanding. I've had several techs come out and say my connection is fine and what not. I did some bufferbloat tests and I'm getting 300-1000ms bufferbloats. Do you think this could be causing my in game stuttering and do you think this netduma could be a solution to this?
@simjc748 жыл бұрын
So stuttering in games can be one of two issues. 1. Graphics engine overloading CPU + GPU, thus frame rate drops (see my upcoming video). 2. Traditional lag. So having a 1000ms jitter/bufferbloat = 1 second delay is definitely not going to help. So having a router whether it be TP Link that offers bandwidth control (but i've not tested this with bufferbloat) or a Netduma will help the buffer bloat situation as per this video. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qHaynI2fiNd4m7c

bazanrj Yes you can game with friends outside your geofilter region. Easy way, turn it off, get your buddy into the lobby and then turn it back on. When you are on your console you will find the MAC address (a unique code with numbers and letters number, typically separated by colons ':' or dashes '-'.). You then just type the IP address in on the page I show, and your console assuming on automatic will pick up the new IP address automatically when you next switch it on.

Confused. You say you set reserved the IP of your Netduma (gaming router) in the TPLink to IP 192.168.0.10, but the setup of the Netduma you have it kept at 192.168.88.1. What exactly is 192.168.0.10 in your setup?
@simjc749 жыл бұрын
+Matthew McDonald In this example I have two networks, and thus it can be confusing. My main home network has network addresses of 192.168.0.xx and in this case the netduma router has been assigned 192.168.0.10 and is seen at that address for the home network. On my gaming network, that hosted by the netduma, inside that it is seen as 192.168.88.1. So netduma external=192.168.0.10 and internal and to the consoles it is seen as 192.168.88.1.
@mcdonamw9 жыл бұрын
I later realized that was the WAN IP of the Netduma. That wasn't clear in your video. Nor was it clear how you obtained the mac to set the reservation for your netduma's WAN IP to 192.168.0.10. At any rate, I'm all good now. Thanks!

it maybe out of topic or irrelevant but, doesn't your Internet speed slow down when you try to bridge or set an AP on the router? Also, if I disable wifi on the netduma and only have wifi on the main router will that impact the performance of the netduma? I ask this because I really want to try this netduma out on my 2 xbox ones but the wifi range is pretty bad and was thinking about purchasing some repeaters to improve the signal strength around my household.

+XxDevilsOutcastxX I haven't tried turning wifi off for periods of time. I would think performance would only be affected whilst its wifi is being used but not by much. I've used the netduma's wifi with my ps3 in the past. No problems there. Getting some powerline adaptors is an alternative to wifi repeaters. They plug into your mains and you still have solid ethernet (hardwired) connections.

@simjc747 жыл бұрын
Yeh, the workaround is to use a powerline adapter, find em on Amazon. TP-Link make some, other manufacturers too. They are like electic plugs, but you get to plugin ethernet cables too. You have to plug them directly into the wall, not a power strip as they typically having electrical filtering, surge protection etc. which will stop it working. So get a pair; plug one into the socket near your router, ethernet cable from router to it. Then take the other one, plug it in a plug near your PS4, ethernet cable from it to PS4 (or Plug->netduma->PS4) and voila. Typically there is a plug sync thing you have to do, following the manufacturers instructions.

If you have a modem/router as one, just plug an ethernet cable from that into the WAN port of the other router and voila. If you are truly wanting to connect a neduma to just a modem for sky, then you will need to do some changes on the WAN page. The netduma forum should have a guide on how to do this for Sky. Sky uses a wierd non standard protocol IIRC. _Sim_

Check out forum.netduma.com and post something there, that the actual netduma people will answer. I was trying to find the ISP setup section, but no luck. :(
@godzmidnitez68618 жыл бұрын
simjc74 mines a sky q hub with 2 ethernet cable, so I just need to plug one Ethernet cable end to the yellow port to Netduma box then and then obviously plugged in for power and then do something in the settings
@simjc748 жыл бұрын
Yes plug one into the yellow port and the other end into the WAN port, not the other 4 ethernet ports. Then plug your console/PC into one of the 4 ports. And that is it.

How is this going to work if we have a modem and 20/1 ADSL connection? What happens if I plug via Netduma only my PS4, rest of the devices such as my laptop, my brothers ps4 and my moms netflixing will be through the modem? Can I still use QoS? Does Netflixing require alot bandwith? I have 1mb upmoad!! Or do I have to plug everything through Netduma? Please help!
@simjc748 жыл бұрын
It will work with ADSL. Now I'm guessing you have a modem/router with your ISP. So just plug the Netduma like a PC into your existing modem/router, and plug a PS4 in. To play games you do not need much upload speed. Netflix I expect to use 3mb. If everyone does lots of streaming, probably best to do do Modem/Router -> Netduma -> Everything (PS4, laptops etc.)
@nfsfu8458 жыл бұрын
simjc74 Yes we have Bewan A2100N from our ISP. Okay, I plug Netduma to my existing modem and then everything else through Netduma, right? And then I priotize my PS4 above all else? Netflix uses only 3mb download with HD quality, no upload?? In BO3 I have like 824kbps upload. If my brother and mother both watch Netflix thru their devices, my ping is around 100 - 150. Netduma fixes this, right? Do you think something like this works: 8mb download for me, 5 download for my brother and mother? And 60% of the bandwith for me?
@simjc748 жыл бұрын
I would say start simple before using the whole device prioritisation. Yes plug router to netduma, everything in netduma. Do the bufferbloat test as per my video, means stopping everyone else using network whilst you do it to get an idea. Then when gaming just set the big sliders to those settings. If the netflix thing becomes an issue then use device prioritisation. Baby steps. Enjoy!
@TryHardUndies10 жыл бұрын
I have an R1 & I'm very happy with it. I don't understand why you would have 2 routers in use as this prevents the R1 congestion control being effective as it doesn't have control of all your devices.
@simjc7410 жыл бұрын
TryHardUndies There are a zillion ways to set up networks. There are people out there who will want two routers. Having the R1 has your primary router, with a secondary router connected to it, means the congestion control can be applied against the second router.
@TryHardUndies10 жыл бұрын
Yes connecting the 2nd router to the R1 would be the better set-up
@simjc7410 жыл бұрын
If you have a basic 2nd router, then yes. However, you end up throttling your entire 2nd network as a whole. In other words, you throttle your 2nd router.

I've never seen your error message; and guessing you are using he PC gaming host analyis feature on the duma. Right so if you have got upnp enabled on your router, and your setup is modem -> netduma -> xbox; I would suggest first hard reset your xb1, i.e. hold the power button (xbox logo) down on the front of the console for 10 seconds, this clears cache. Then unplug it from electric. Now turn off modem and router; wait 1 minute, makes sure ISP drops stuff. Power on just your modem, wait to its fully up, then power on your router, again wait until its fully up, and then power on your XB1. With luck, this will have sorted it.

I also heard (best check out the netduma forums) that they are working on a patch where you can swap out the sky router for a BT Open Reach modem (VDSL) and connect the Netduma R1, once it is running the new firmware. I'm not sure if the new firmware that supports this is out yet. However, found installation instructions for Sky on the forum, link follows. forum.netduma.com/topic/266-sky-fibre-sr102-black/

willman215 I believe Netduma would recommend pre-emptive for your speeds, but my experience is pre-emptive=XB1, reactive=PS4. I always try to run with congestion control as high as possible, typically start at 95%, and then slide down if experiencing lag comp until fairness appears.

@simjc748 жыл бұрын
Right, I also would recommend Modem->Netduma->Netgear to be able to use congestion control etc. so that other people in house watching youtube, netflix etc. whilst you game do not affect you. Plug router cable into WAN port of Netduma. Then simply take ethernet cable from Netduma and put it into WAN port of your Netgear router. Same port you plug router cable into your Netgear now. Make sure Upnp is enabled on your netgear. Also on your netduma, make sure upnp forward (miscellaneous menu) is enabled, and that upnp is also enabled. Connect consoles + gaming PC to netduma. Everything else connect to netgear. Those devices that talk to netgear should see no change. Gaming on PC for netduma. So when you want to use geofilter, add your PC and select Xbox Live as the Service. Yes I know, your PC is not an xbox, but select it. Enjoy! _Sim_

ok so if am understanding right the cable that is coming from the modem right now and goes to the netgear ethernet port that cable has to go to the netduma port 1 right how about the DMZ do i leave that alone because the netduma is on the DMZ right now

The WAN port; not 1-4 ports. You can leave the DMZ alone, as if you have problems you can go back to your existing setup.

I have a modem/router (ADSL2+) and Im trying to get the best connection possible. Net Duma on one of their pages said you should put your modem/router into modem only mode. My question is will this speed up my connection? Is it better to have my net duma connecting to my isp or should I just let my modem router do it? Anybody have a clue what to do here? Thanks in advance guys!!

zombitroid84 the reason I make such a big fuss about it is because it is an absolute pain to put a modem/router into bridge mode, and transfer all of my settings to the netduma!

The Netduma is just a router so your ISP box has to connect. Putting your ISP modem/router into modem only mode if it supports it may give you the best performance especially when the next firmware update arrives. However there is no problem leaving it as is.

So I assume you don't have a netduma. Make sure you enable Upnp on your router, and reserve an IP address for your gaming machine under the DHCP settings. Rebooting both should then clear that problem. If you have a basic router, you may have to do port forwarding.
@RADDY199310 жыл бұрын
Hi m8, i just ordered my Netduma and am running this router (www.asus.com/uk/Networking/DSLAC68U/) on sky fibre. Am i correct in thinking i just plug my Netduma into my ASUS and give the Netduma a ip reservation and place it in the DMZ on the ASUS. Next just plug my PS4 into the Netduma and run all other devices through the ASUS. Also i am at the moment throttling my up and down to my PS$ in my ASUS, do i not need to do this once i have the Netduma installed or do i just disable it on my ASUS and throttle it through my Netduma.
@simjc7410 жыл бұрын
RADDY 1993 Yes plug netduma into asus and give your netduma a reserved ip address. Now if you are only connecting your game consoles to your netduma, and keeping all other networking devices (tablets/PCs etc.) on your asus then you may wish to put some sort of throttling (no massive) into place so that anyone streaming movies etc. will not spoil your gaming experience. As your PS4 will be connected to the netduma, you have throttle controls via the IP flood page. Just do not throttle your netduma on your asus.
@RADDY199310 жыл бұрын
simjc74 Thanx for the reply, yes i am only connecting my PS4 to the Netduma (wired) so i will disable the QOS on my ASUS and just use your recommended Up and Down throttle speeds (1024 up) and (380 down) in the Netduma. I only have my PC and Sky+ box conected to my ASUS so i should not really need to throttle those.
@simjc7410 жыл бұрын
RADDY 1993 You can only throttle using percentages of up and down on the netduma. Now with the host being within your georegion you specify you should hopefully not have to throttle so hard, but there are lag days where you will need to throttle hard. :(
