The translation is not wrongly done about Netero, in the manga it could be use as both, evolution or malice, so was a matter of what to choose in the subs, and seems Evolution was what they pick. But I totally agree about Pitou's line, sound so dumb in the sub translation for some reason. Something that they fix in the english dub surprisingly, I think they even did the Malice translation there.

@@Vernnell 'evolution' doesn't make sence in case of Netero, because before that Meruem spoke whole speech about how he is the pinnacle of evolution and Netero has only his individual strenth. Meruem was defeated by nuclear weapon, which is a quintessence of humanity's 'malice'.

I think the meaning being both malice and evolution was perfect. when the effects of the bomb are revealed later its clear the "infinite potencial for malice" was a right way to describe it. it showed that even while there were superhuman creatures and people the sheer potential humanity had for destruction means they dont even matter. Meruem was the strongest fighter by far. and he got instantly killed by a weapon that can be mass produced and implanted on a person. Nen skill, hability, potential, none of that even mattered. hell a single ICBM going at mach 20 with a more powerfull bomb couldve erased meruem and the 3 royal guards and they wouldnt have been able to do anything. knov with the portals couldve planted several in the castle. It showed the humanity in HxH is even more dangerous and capable of destruction that even IRL. a single human might not be able to win. but the combined effort of all of them is a nightmare.

Meruem mistake was thinking about him being superior to the humain race in his few days of existence, comparing to the million years of humain race evolution. At the end him and his race was nothing due to the fact that any country could have obliterate the shit of him at any moment. Netero was definitely not alone...

TBF Meruem was born and in like a week he changed his nature completely. He started as the king of ants and acted like it. then his human ego started to form and his curiosity and philosophy started to develop. komugi challenging him and showing him that every human had the potential to surpass him at something was a massive part of it but his fight with netero were he realized that even in his immense power he was still an ant he massively underestimated the sheer power humanity wielded because he could only see the world as the king of the ants. he was pivoting between ant and human. but after that he became truly human and chose a fate only a human could he spent his last moments doing what he loved with a person he liked and he died in peace. He was born a god and died a human. Its a perfect contrast to gon in the same arc. who instead of focusing on the wonders of life and what he had he was so determined to get revenge he sacrificed his humanity and life. and by the end of the arc meruem died in peace and gon was agonizing and going to die.

Netero in some translations says "infinite potential for malice" and when the bombs is explained it all makes sense. humanity didnt create any of those to survive or fight against a bigger threat. they were created to be used against other humans and to cause as much suffering and destruction as possible. Meruem might have been the culmination of the chimera ant evolution. but humanity constantly evolves way to kill and defend against itself. its an infinite loop of evolution wich yields increasingly more atrocious ways to kill each other that no species in the natural world would need or want to get besides us. we went from fighting with swords bows and guns to being able to end the world in like 100 years. the humanity in the HxH world has Nen and more advanced tech. they probably got several doomsday weapons. the miniature rose was low budged and possible to mass produce. what is the expensive and hard to make weapon?

I just really don't like they portray this whole thing. Yeah, you can show how corrupt and downright evil humanity can be. But you have to do it with nuance. Here, we just give you straight to your face how bad humanity can be with the subtility of a truck. There's nothing deep or philosophical here despite what the show is thinking. This just plainly "humans are soooo bad" and there's nothing more.
