It's a red flag when your creative team aren't for the OG lore, that's when Netflix should have scrapped the team and hire real fans who'd adapt the source material with appreciation like Henry wanted. You reap what you sow, and Netflix mishandled their seeds

i agree that some things in the books would be better off left out of a TV adaptation. I think a seasons 1-4 GOT sort of adaptation would work perfectly with the witcher. but actively disliking the source material is insulting and should never have been allowed. the witcher universe could genuinely be a huge universe with multiple seasons, and spinoffs if done by writers who actually know, like, and care about the books. the cast and the production (besides certain parts in s3 lmao) were all very good imo. this show had so much potential but was shit on by terrible writers

I became a huge Witcher fan after playing Witcher 3 Wild Hunt, which is my all time favourite game. It led to me buying the novels as well as graphic novels. I even have Witcher mugs etc. When Netflix announced The Witcher I was stoked, but time and again they have made monumental mistakes. A few would be casting Ciri too old, casting Yennefer too young, not understanding the lore, not understanding that it should always have been Geralt centric, and not even getting the music correct. The only thing they got correct was Henry Cavill as Geralt. Realise this is a long comment, but I have seen so many beloved stories butchered and The Witcher handled correctly could have been the opposite. I urge people to play the games instead. Doug Cockle's voice as Geralt is amazing.

Except for the fact that the rate of new subscribers jumped 102% for Netflix. Password sharing just ain't the excuse here and it made a negligible difference at best in regards to views. There's only one answer here: netflix and/or its showrunner and writers s**t the bed. They were given a billion dollar winning lottery ticket, and instead of cashing it in, they scribbled out the numbers and replaced them all with 💩 - the pile of s**t emoji. They cared more about making a political statement (because they are f*ing pathetic, weak-willed, woke children) than they did making a great show. Lauren Hissrich was the single worst possible decision for a showrunner and the Witcher failing was one of the most easily predictable things in cinematic history.

Cuz they wanted to hire cheap writers (who didn't ask much money). This is why we also have those writers strike atm. Cuz some studios hires less good writers who accept a smaIIer amount of money (making some of the good ones ..being even left out). But if you want your movies / tv shows to be good / great ..you also need to hire good / great writers. The people that Netflix got for The Witcher simpIy suck. They could have just followed the source material and still do a good job ..but they wanted to make their own take / adaptation 😂 They even had an example with Game of Thrones when season 8 was left without the source material from the books and those guys also screwed. Should have learned from Game of Thrones and still stick to the source material for The Witcher.

The first book is the the worst one, and while Netflix didn't knock it out of the park in season 1 it wasn't terrible either, that was it, the biggest hurdle was gone, the other books are a lot better and I read through them in like a week. They managed to adapt the worst entry into the series halfway decently, I don't understand how they could fuck up this badly on the subsequent books which only get bettter. I guess we can chalk it up to hubris in thinking they could improve upon the source material with their "Chosen by comitte" additions to the story... If this series had come in the early 2010s like GOT did we probably wouldn't have had to deal with all this bullshit, same with WOT, what a shame!

Sometimes, there's no need to reinvent the wheel, as they say. It's important to recognize and appreciate the existing quality of the IP.
