Oh yeah you arrived to one of the "OMG" moment of the series ya its ACE!!! Fun fact: Ace becomed the quickly the biggest favourite OMG character of the series despite he appeared just in few chapters in the manga back in the day (and everyone reacted like you ya) but since his appearance was short, in the anime they gived him more screentime with a mixed filler episodes :3 Also he got quickly a tons of merch, appearance in the videogames as bonus character etc...Ace the trend!

In traditional Japanese, names are backwards. For example, Monkey D Luffy would be read backwards. Luffy is first name and Monkey is last name. So we would normally read it as Luffy D Monkey, Ace D Portgas, Roger D Gol etc.

Because he is made of fire and an interesting fact is that despite being made of fire, he can only extend his limbs with his ability, but cannot separate them. This was explained in a section of questions and answers from fans to Oda in the manga.

Hope you guys see this even though yall are weeks ahead. So many people are explaining the japanese naming convention and timeline lol also, since it's been revealed and shown. Garp was there in the live action, but they didn't show him in the anime. it IS one of the biggest differences that gets explained later on in the anime itself. Also, Luffy's family does somewhat get explained. One Piece doesn't really do red herrings and either gives information straight up or keeps it mysterious, but they don't lie. as far as i can remember.
