Netflix Reminds You They’re Still Prestige. Plus ‘American Primeval’ and ‘The Pitt’ Take the Leap

Chris and Andy talk about Netflix’s slate of shows for 2025 that the streamer presented at a glitzy conference this week (2:51) and how Netflix would like to remind its audience that it has something for everyone-including prestige TV (8:51). Then they talk about a recent report from Parrot Analytics that claimed that ‘Severance’ has made Apple $200 million (26:22). Finally, they discuss the very dark finale of ‘American Primeval’ (35:37) and why ‘The Pitt’ has taken the leap with its fourth episode (46:42).

I lost my dad at 22 and have proceeded to lose close to 10 other close loved ones in the 15 years since. I was also bedside as my dad withered away from extremely advanced cancer and when he passed away. This show handles/shows death in an extremely realistic and beautiful way.

I work in a hospital and when a family member is dying or about to- the DNR doesn't matter. It's terrible. Few people know what real CPR looks like but I have seen ribcages pushed through to the bed... Family members don't have logic in these situations, they only have emotion. Emotion-based medical decisions only lead to more pain.

I listen to the watch but have refused to join Netflix since the password crackdown & ad tier. Im pissed that they used 1 bad qtr to push through ads, higher prices, and the end of pw sharing. Things they said for years made them special.

Just finished watching the Pitt and I think the show makes it clear that Jake is Dr. Robby's son not his mentor's son.

Through an interview Noah Wyle reveals that Jake is more like a step son from a long-term relationship he was in with Jake's mother. I really wanted Jake's mom and Dr. Robby to literally have a mini Dr. Robby.

On Apple financials isn't it total revenue carved by minutes watched. So if they have income of $1 billion and 10% of total minutes watched were a certain show then they generated $100m? Not sure they've taken production costs into account i.e. profits and are just quoting revenue.
