Netflix’s Avatar is a Masterpiece… Compared to the Movie

Netflix's Avatar the Last Airbender has been out for more than a week now and I wanted to take some time to give my thoughts on this much anticipated show. I mention the changes the show did a great job on and not so great jobs on... cough Bumi cough

Now let me say, nothing compares to the original animated series. But compared to M. Night, they grabbed the essence of the animated series. Nothing will be able to compare to the original, but I appreciate the passion put into the Netflix series.

Now that NATLA is renewed for Season 2 & 3, I hope that they'll consider all those constructive criticisms and focus more on consistent writing. Calling it a BAD adaptation would be utterly stupid. The casting and production design is SO good and I don't want the writing team to mess up a really good potential. Considering how crucial they following books gets, I wonder how they're going to bridge gaps and bring back the raw, original essence.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who saw that this show has great value. I think the first 2 episodes are the worst, which is why so many people are dismissing this show as a "waste of potential". Zuko is definitely a highlight of the adaptation imo. I'd say my 2 biggest problems with this show are 1. Loong Monologues, especially the first 2 episodes. 2. Lack of character flaws/struggles, specifically in our main cast. I get that they need to save some time condensing season 1 into 8 episodes, but Katara and Aang are so boring compared to their cartoon selves. We need more character flaws and struggles for these characters to grow. Katara's growth and struggle in the cartoon North Pole episodes are some of my favorite episodes, But the live-action made so many things feel effortless and I didn't feel as much growth in our main cast. Like I said I still loved this adaption, I only critique This show because I love it and feel so much potential from this show. Lets hope season 2 learns from season 1!!

The live action never called it season 1 book water. It was just season one

I really dont understand what they will do for the guru ep. It goes back to a ton of things in book one, which the retcon or leave out. And ill tell you why kataras mom story line was worse in the live action. The animation waits. You dont find out exactly what happen to near the end of book 3. So makes that ep incredible. This show blows its wad so dam early and because it cant wait. Since every line is exposition. The same issue the movie had.

Netflix avatar the last airbender show make not be perfect I think pretty good show good not great but when compared to the movie it is a masterpiece compared to the movie
