I feel like modern media has this issue of not letting there characters have flaws. Katara can't have her temper, Sokka can't be sexist, Azula can't be too cruel, and Zuko can't be to to tough. It's like they're trying to "fix" the characters. It's also weird they got rid of any of katara and aang moments romantic or not. The same thing happened pjo in their tv show, it's weird. Also side ramble! Saying Aang is 112 as way of trying to save katara x aang is wild.

I always pictured it as the Fire Nation launching a blitzkrieg campaign against every temple simultaneously. And the fact that they would be splitting their forces was the entire reason that they had to wait for the comet to make up for the fact that each battle group would be massively outnumbered.

The pacing was the worst part of this for me. And something I wished they changed was the use of fans. In East Asian cultures, they're unisex (samurai even used them to fight), but in ATLA they're seen as feminine tools.

Just something I wanted to point out about Azula: I think a huge reason why she acts different in this version, is because Ozai treats her differently in this version. If you notice, he doesn't show as much of an overtly favoritism towards her over Zuko. In fact, Ozai's parenting style seems to rely a lot more on comparison here. He never praises Azula, seemingly because he wants to constantly push her to be better (or what he *sees* as "better"), and him feigning pride/being impressed by Zuko seems to be another way for him to do that. So, I guess this change of dynamic would explain the change in her apparent confidence and why she has a harder time keeping it up, given how her father doesn't favor her nearly as much in this version, and thus, she hasn't developed as much of a superiority complex. Once we see her interact with Zuko though, I feel like her rivalry with him might be even more prominent here, if we take that into consideration (and if the writers do it right, of course).
@TheArtisticAloubell8 ай бұрын
That's a very good point! Overall I just wanna see how the show will handle her and her "friends" moving forward. I need to see dynamics and then in action.

8:47 Nick's Avatar Book 1 was 20 episodes (23 min each), which's 429.6 min or 7.16 hours total. Netflix's Avatar Book 1 is 8 episodes (47-63 min), which's 430 min, or 8 hours total. So, they'd the time to do a 1:1 adaptation of the cartoon, but they chose to do a remix of it (their words) instead.

I give it like a C+. Episodes I heavily disliked were three amd four. I get that they were trying to crush everything in together but it just kinda…sucked to me. Nothing felt familiar in a good way, it felt like bits and pieces of the story were morphed into an amalgamation of stories and stuff that we needed was left out completely and stuff that was added wasn’t necessary. I don’t enjoy secret tunnel being here so early. Felt off. I do really like Kyoish scene though. That was amazing. Characters I believe that did great or are honestly fine or passable are Zuko, Iroh, Admiral Zoh, Ozai, Avatar Kyoshi, Avatar Kuruk, Monk Gyatso, and that Earth kingdom soldier and a little bit of Suki and Sokka. Characters I wasn’t happy with or I was like meh were Mai, Ty Lee, Bumi, Yue, gran gran, Pakku, Roku, the other parts of Sokka and Katara. I agree a lot with Katara not having a bite to her and being more emotionally. She feels so subdued. Characters I straight up did not enjoy their interpretations are Aang, Azula, and Jet. I do like a lot of the new scenes they added in the show felt like a welcomed addition. I really wanted to see the Air Nomad genocide because I felt like it added a lot to the series. I agree with Sokka not having enough character development. But Sokka isn’t the worst. The characters I do feel like they did horribly was stated above. Aang just doesn’t or barely acts like his air bender self. He feels so off put and stoic and not fun loving and goofy. I know they are going for a darker tone but it just really is off putting. Azula…ughhhhh I really don’t like a more emotional Azula. I loved how cold and how much fear she could induce but now her character now feels weak…I love a strong character right out of the gate who’s a great villain already. She always felt like an apposing threat than what she is now. Jet, I really don’t feel like they handled his character well in these episodes. I liked that his whole stick was trying to kill a fire nation town. Adding him into Omashu felt like too much going on and made his character even more insane that felt very unnecessary. He wanted the fire nation town gone in the og due to them all being fire nation. He knows all of them were, but having him wanting to blow up Omashu when there were probably some fire nation and mostly earth kingdom people felt like way too much. We see in later episodes that he just dislikes fire nation and wants justice to them and them alone. He would be causing unnecessary death either way, but with the fire nation town it felt more justified in a demented way, with Omashu it literally feels like they are trying to make him the most insane they possibly could. The mashing of all of these episodes didn’t feel great to me personally. The last four episodes do a much better job, episode six being my favorite because it is the most untouched from the source material and added something much needed that worked very well in my opinion like the other new scenes in all the first four episodes, but other than that the first episode was great, the second was good, the third and fourth were just…bad for me personally. I didn’t enjoy the last two at all. The last few do a lot better for me personally. I will go more in depth of why I like episode six so much in the next video. Great review by the way ❤️

Just like I don't view most of Disney Star Wars as canon (instead as fanon, by nonfans). I don't count Netflix's Avatar as canon, but instead, fanon (due to the creators leaving the adapation & replaced by self-proclaimed "fans" taking over it, just like Disney Star Wars did)

🌪 I 1000% agree that Iroh and Zuko, both individually and as a duo, are completely stealing the show in this adaptation. They already did so for me in the original, since their relationship was my absolute favorite part of the show, but I love the way they're handling them here. They gave me just as much feels here as they did in the original. I may be one of the few people who are actually genuinely enjoying this adaptation so far. Is it perfect? No. Could some characters be handled better? Yes. Is the original still better? Absolutely. It was always going to be. I never expected this version to reach the same level as the original, I just wanted it to be well-told and to do the characters I love justice. The last part in some of the cases is debatable, but let me remind everyone that this story is not over, seasons 2 and 3 have been confirmed, so there's still opportunities for development to happen. And despite some problems and plotholes, I genuinely think this new version doing a decent job, considering it's working on a more limited number of episodes and also aiming for slightly more mature audiences. And yes, the fact that this finally gave me an opportunity to introduce my "I only watch 9-episode-season shows" mom into the amazing world of ATLA does give this extra points for me. And yes I know that's biased. No I don't care. P.S: Good on you for speaking FACTS about Kataang at the end. TEAM ZUTARA HERE! 😆💙🧡 I realize that the chances of Zutara happening are kind of slim even in this version, and yes, maybe they're just waiting for the Aang actor to grow a little bit so that it's not as weird for them to become a couple (which will always be weird for me no matter what), BUT! At least now there's hope. Even if just a sliver. 😅

I appreciate and respect your positivity about this adaptation. It may not be my favorite adaptation, but it does have value to it even if some things aggravate me. @@TheArtisticAloubell Yeah I mean, I can acknowledge the flaws, don't get me wrong! I guess there's also the fact that lately I have seen just one too many abysmally disappointing and poorly-made sequels/remakes/spin-offs of media that I enjoy, that whatever gripes I have with this one feel small in comparison. 😅 And also that I've seen so many fans overblown the problems this adaptation has that I'd rather focus a bit more on the positive, because while far from great, it's really not the worst thing ever. I also firmly believe there's more room for improvement in seasons to come. BTW, I apologize if the comments I'm leaving on this topic get a bit long-winded, I just have a LOT of thoughts on this show, evidently, LOL. 😅

Azula and her trio aren’t casted the best and they appeared in season 1 for some reason? 3. Katara is now just an angel for some reason when in the show she was like a mother figure that god mad pretty easily and there are even more.. 🌪️

🌪️I appreciate that you are reviewing this show fairly, pointing out both its flaws AND strengths. It seems like a lot of people are only focusing on the flaws of this show. And if they don’t like the show, that’s perfectly fine, but, in my opinion, almost nothing is so bad that there’s nothing good to talk about. This show also gives us the opportunity to discuss adaptations and how to do them properly. This might be a controversial opinion, but I don’t know if there’s one correct way to do an adaptation, and I think it all depends on what you’re trying to accomplish. If you’re trying to adapt the source material as closely as possible, then you obviously shouldn’t needlessly change things. If you’re trying to put a slightly different twist on the story/characters, then I think it’s okay to change things up a bit, so long as you remain faithful to the source material. But no matter how you are adapting something, I think the key is to remain faithful to the source material. An adaptation doesn’t have to be a one-to-one recreation of the source material so long as it’s faithful to it.
@TheArtisticAloubell8 ай бұрын
Thank you!🤗🩷 And what you said is completely fair. 😁 I personally tend to prefer more accuracy when referring to the original work, but if the changes either don't matter in the long run or are used/explained well, I'll let it slide. ...not all of the changes were used or explained well in this adaptation haha XD But to say it did nothing good would be a disservice. It's DEFINITELY better than the 2010 movie FOR SURE.
@notbatman90858 ай бұрын
@@TheArtisticAloubell I usually prefer more accuracy too. But as someone who grew up on the classic Disney animated adaptations and still love them to this day, I would be lying to myself if I said being more accurate is the only correct way to adapt stories. But like you said, if changes are made, they should be done well. I look forward to your review of episodes 5-8!
