@@thegumbychronicles4892 They'll legit say ignorant things to make people go away if their insurance isn't kicking in quickly enough. They're terrible people. And doctors. Had a workers comp and had to go to appointed doctors who had to act "sterile"- no, these people act like DEMONS. Made me look at the entire health Industry like it's hollywierd. Just strange ass mf demons. These are doctors whose patients LOVE them! The fact that they can switch it up and gaslight you is deeply disturbing. Shifted my entire perspective.

I have to agree, Steven shines in this role and owned it. The entire rest of the cast...that was some incredible acting as well. I believed every second of this story. It was so well written too, I absolutely loved this series. The psychedelic awakening and personal connection was perfect.

I’m not Asian but I’m Latina and you just helped me understand better why therapy hasn’t worked super well for me. I always feel like I have to do my therapists “homework” and feel a certain way after, and I don’t feel comfortable questioning or pushing back because it makes me feel like a failure or ingrate or something. And instead of feeling free and uplifted it just feels like another relationship I have to manage and perform in. Further complicating things is that my therapist is a white guy and there are certain aspects of my experience that I have to go out of my way to explain to him, or he doesn’t even consider to ask me about in the first place. He’s not a bad therapist but I don’t think we are a good fit.

I really loved this two part discussion of the series, I easily could have listened to an hour(+)-long version of this! One of the highlights was how you explained Danny's line of Western therapy not working on Eastern minds, which I hadn't fully understood as I was watching the show. You mentioned how Asian women are programmed/expected to be docile, submissive, subservient, always smiling, nice to people you have to deal with, etc. This made me think of two things: 1) As a 1.5 gen Taiwanese woman, I TOTALLY get this! I think a lot of the pressure comes from the fact that Asian countries tend to be collectivistic. From a young age, I was taught that how I appeared in public and interacted with others was a reflection of my family, my culture, my people. I need to be smiling and kind (to a fault) not because I inherently feel like smiling, but because I need to represent my family/country well. I really felt this in Ali Wong's performance -- the tightness of her smile is something I deeply recognize. It's also a *completely* different smile from when she's genuinely having a good time with Paul in Vegas. A third entirely different smile is when she's chased after Danny once he's driven off because he's peed in her bathroom. It's a subconscious smile that she doesn't even realize she's making, and it feels...creaky, almost? As if she's not used to letting herself enjoy something especially something so *naughty* or bad? 2) More on Ali Wong: I can't think of a single other Asian actor who could have played the role of Amy, BECAUSE it's so rare to see female Asian characters be anything other than docile (kind, nerdy, etc.) -- let alone shades of angry. The closest would be roles that lean into the "Dragon Lady" stereotype (urgh) which is usually played for laughs in modern media. Honestly, seeing an angry Asian woman on screen felt a little scandalous at times. As someone who's spent years in therapy trying to get in touch with my anger, I wish I had had this kind of representation at a much younger age to know it was even an option. You mentioned Danny thinks more like the Korean way like he smiles when facetime his parents like everything is ok....,but then later he told his parents what happened with Paul and Kayla....something which parents would worry about that your son's been catfished...maybe he didn't tell them the full story..but who knows

Half Of Her Left In The Chaos With Any And Half In The Safe Space With Naomi (Who Ironically Kills Her). Naomi Splitting Jordana In Half Shows How Fast She Was To Cut Ties With Jordana. Literally. Why Naomi Had Jordana Sexually, Amy Had Jordana’s Mind. Amy Was Always On Her Mind. Naomi Got Jealous Cus She Wanted Both Halves Of Her. She Did Get The Upper Half Eventually. XD Also Jordana Had A Western Superiority Complex While Making Racist Remarks About Amy’s Koyohaus Line And Her Dating Naomi Who Was Submissive To Her Whim And Was Basically AT Trophy Asian Wife.
