@@VivekSingh06 yes it does mean donation of daughter for merging two families. When brahma created a girl and the concept of Marriage he called the girl dwija, the ine who unites two clans. KanyaDaan has been misunderstood over the years. The people who were poor back then they treated their daughters as bojh. Even they misconceptualised it. As per the old texts, KanyaDaan actually doesn't mean Kanya ka daan, it's Gotr Daan, i.e, Kanya kE GOTR KA DAAN. This Daan is considered as the purest form of Daan, because Kanya is called the Laxmi of the house and and is most lovable and precious to her father. The Groom is considered as Narayan. That's why giving away the hand of most precious person(Laxmi) of Ur life to another man is a true Daan. Here DAAN doesn't mean charity. The sanskrit word Daan doesn't have any exact English translation. Daan has been derived from the word BALIDAAN, where Raja Bali gave his most precious thing, i.e his life as DAAN. And ofcourse life can't be given as charity. Sanskrit is a complex language and many of its words have been highly misunderstood. AND this sO cAllED WoKe pEOplE..make anything out of it. Because itni knowledge Hoti toh iss show mein thode hi jaate. Simple!

Why is her identity treated like an object which gets transferred frm father to that of husband. This is the basic idea due to which we have practices where she is not the decision maker of her life, also she could not inherit property in those times because her gotra is donated at the time of marriage. If she was raised by the family she should remain part of the family forever. And still if divine reasons se kanya ke gotra ka daan krna hai then make it even and also donate gotra of groom and let the couple start their new gotra. Please stop glorifying patriarchy

@Anian anian the roots of kanyadaan lie in considering woman as an object to be given away, since ANCIENT times. Woman have been considered and called "parai" for a reason. The reason being, them having no self knowledge of who they are but are seen as properties of others. Look at the roots,, it's considered the highest donation because a girl is being given away, as written in ancient texts, woman have no self value but are treated and grown up to and taught to be properties of others. Equality and wanting an all female crew do not contradict each other in this time and age. This show was a rich Indian coconut drama but but this one topic is true. You live in world where almost always these people you work with are men. You say agar koi admi Aisa bolta bawal hojata but truly speaking, men DO that, which is why women are not taken seriously at their jobs.

📌📌📌Pardon, but Kanyadaan 1000ron saal pehle kabhi galat concept nahi tha, bojh wagerah wala. In fact it was in 18th and 19th century when this became bad to some extent. Because in my society it is considered as blessing, where people fight to do it. It's a way to express the love of girl child to someone who's marry her. It's a way where parents feel proud if they want to attaint the biggest " Punya " they can only attain through Girl child not through boy.

Hi Shan , I really enjoy watching all of your videos and you are very very funny . I don't know if you will read this but I hope you do just to see the same situation from a different perspective . I agree with a lot of points you made in this video except for one . In my opinion equality is not to draw a same basic starting point for everybody and measuring them from there . Equality is when you empower the weaker and give strength the the weaker to be able to match with the competition . We still have cast related quota's in India became of how badly people of upper cast mistreated people of lower cast . So the government decided to give them extra benifit to encourage and bring them to the same level . Same goes with women, I find it hurtful when you called some girls in this video pseudo feminist just because she would prefer to work with a women then a man with the same qualifications or prefer to have a female pandit . A male pandit or a man with qualifications will find opportunities regardless . But it's not as easy or as simple for a woman , atleast was not for many many many years . So if as a woman who can understand the true pain of being oppressed or rejected has the power now to empower another women and make opportunities for her ,it's not wrong . It's not fake feminism . We as women have a very strong relatability factor when it comes to inequality . I agree it can be tough for men to understand it like we do or be in our shoes . All I am trying to say is if I want to hier a female pandit for my wedding it's because I want to encourage her and empower her not to show any inequality towards the male pandit .

About kanyadan, the original ritual symbolized how a marriage would extend the rights of a woman. A woman doesn’t need marriage to exercise her rights now (in theory) so I don’t think there’s anything wrong with women not wanting to perform that ritual. It’s not a choice they should be derided for. Of course you can still criticize people for not understanding the full context of the ritual.
@Ritush213 жыл бұрын
Kanya ka daan is kanya daan, so similar yo how you give daan of food and clothes Indian parents give daan of there daughters. Of course it is a part of hindu culture but also comes along the fact that a daughter is being given away and that is her new house. Hence the daughters in many cases have lost there lives due to dowry, violence by in laws or husbands etc and parents and “society” says that try and make it work cause that’s your new house. Therefore either kanyadaan should be stopped or the boy should be given in daan as well. Just because a culture has been followed by hundreds of years doesn’t mean it’s right. Desperate times need desperate measures. But off-course it’s not going anywhere coz patriarchy rocks.

@@Ritush21 I have to disagree with you kanyadaan is not not donating the bride . It is a simple ritual in which the father trusts the groom to care of his daughter and hands over the responsibilities of taking care and protecting his daughter to the groom .

Dear shaan prashaar I really appreciate your concept about how you review shows but most women do not understand that what they want for women in equity and not equality. Women have been deprived for years from the basic rights and now finally people are atleast starting to accept that women should be equal to men you should realise that for the equation of par to come up among men and women women first need more opportunities than men to come to that level so yes giving women more leverage and opportunities is vital for equality to finally dawn upon us because we aren't there yet🙂

The concept of Kanyadaan as a feeling that you are talking about here is restricted to a very small population. And when you come to North India , states like Uttar Pradesh, Haryana , Uttrakhand, Bihar and the newly Bifurcated hindi speaking states , the ritual still signifies - transfer of responsibility. The fact that 'Kanya' can provide for herself and her family financially doesnt matter. The conditioning is so deep rooted that "ghar ki beti" is a property ,and with Kanyadaan the bride's father is transferring the said property/responsibility. We can sugarcoat it and say ki -' itne saal humne dhyaan diya , pyaar se rakha and now we expect you to do the same' , par mere career me as a public servant or during my research period the reality was dark and bitter.
