I think most of your gripes with the anime come down to the principal of "Show Don't Tell" and honestly from what I inferred early on I still think the show holds up pretty well, if not being a bit too short to fully develop the characters emotional bond with one another. The ending unfortunately was expected, though I didn't see it coming so soon as in 5 episodes. That said what I was hoping for in this show was a happy ending - and this is coming from a Dark Fantasy writer who typical gives characters sad endings of one kind or another. I wanted this namely because the world building was great in my mind, but the characters back stories illustrated the same story, that "this has happened before" with Momo's Uncle and her mom. I was initially hoping they where gonna build up to suicide moment only to back down, and bring some light into the bleak world; a break from the past, that they would make their own paradise and have it become a safe haven for others. Instead the end result was Fine doing exactly what Aria did to her, commiting suicide to "protect" the one she loved. While Momo "growing up" and recognizing the world for what it is: a bleak wasteland, yet never giving up her ideal.

I really liked vampire in the garden, it caught my eyes the first 10 min and then i finished it tha same day but it just felt empty afterwards. Even though i feel like it was a good anime it still felt very rushed, it felt as if they cut out all parts there thwy could've put in more character development and show the amazing world but instead they just put in alot of the action and not much else.

I liked it, but I definitely needed more time. Should have had 10 episodes at least, or 5 1h long episodes. Everything happened too fast after episode 2 and nothing was well explained outside of the main characters relationship. Also wtf was Momo’s mom doing just walking on the ice in the end.

DUDE! if you get to the end of the end credits you'll see that Momo did NOT commit suicide. there was a time jump that showed her holding a vampire baby in a village of vampires and humans that lived together in peace and they announced season 2. so she is not dead.

I don't think its bad, but they clearly should have given it 12 episodes to flesh out more their story and travel. More context to some characters like Momo mother, and changing the dumb 14 years old line (Momo was a Soldier, and a factory worker)

Wasn't the whole point that their relationship was ick on several levels? Like Fine was just trying to use Momo to replace that other girl who died the whole time and never saw her as herself. Making her 14 to add another layer of eww wasn't totally necessary, but I think the whole point of it was their relationship wasn't healthy. In fiction a character doing something that would be gross irl doesn't in and of itself make the story bad...it is very difficult to write an interesting story in which all of the characters behave morally. It would have been nice to get a longer series though, and to see Momo realize that Fine is using her and figuring out how to deal with that. The series has some significant flaws for sure, but isn't awful by any means if you approach it with the understanding that Fine isn't intended to be a good person and their relationship is a thin veneer of pleasantness over a whole lot of awful that would have crumbled if the timeline had been even a little bit longer.

Spoilers below I enjoyed the show but I can't help but agree with you on a lot. But just to play devil's advocate here's some positives on the show. I liked what Allegro's final scene showed about him. All he wanted was for Fine to be safe and if you think back it shows. Fine is kind of a vibe just as a character she literally lived alone in a gothic mansion, and Fine literally told momo in her dying words that she was being selfish so I think at least some of that was intentional. However, I think the ending realllly didn't fit the message the show I was at least getting from the show. Fine shouldn't have died and I don't mean that from a grieving place. From a story telling perspective it just felt wrong, but that's just me. And yeah I was confused on how the antagonists kept finding the main characters too. But I think the biggest problem with it is it's runtime. It needed like at least 10 more episodes to flesh out the world and characters

the way momo left her mother in the beginning without a fully developed reason (not that she didn't have one and it was valid but that some subcontext was missing) leaves a bad taste in my mouth. in my opinion (i want to believe) that momo had already had a reason to run away at the very beginning: child abuse, monotony, overwork and the cruelty and harshness of both training and work, stress, killing children who would be less or equal to a 14 year old GIRL and the emotional burden that she carries repressed and that she saw in music a minimal way out of it all, plus she shared a bond with her only friend who died and that adds another reason not to return to a place like that. I mean who the fuck would want to go back to a place that is so over exploitative, abusive and frankly sent your best friend into a battle where you saw her die before your eyes and more than once forced you to be a part of it?

Did you watch the Japanese dub? Because I watched the English dub and felt like it fleshed it out and made it clear- her mom was abusive, the people training her to be cruel and it's a society that puts survival of the whole and not self first. Was that not conveyed.... ?

She was curious about the world her mom was destroying, and about anything beyond that cursed city, music was her way of being free, but then her mom took that too and that was the last straw, she was caged, just like Fine

I liked the 1st 3 eps. After that the story was rushing towards its conclusion. If it had atleast 12 episodes and the pacing was alil more slow and the characters and world was more developed I think the series could have been really good.

The little girl was just little in appearance, she was the one running the village, was good with weapons, and basically controlled the village appearance with her inoccent act. About the other things you said, i agree, 5 episodes were simply not enough to profundize on the rest of the cast, it should have been a 12 episode series

I had a thing for the vampire girl in the village, once they made her die...eventhough they wrote her to be a clingy little girl who is in a phase of trying to make best friend (just listen to her dialog and the fact that she wasn't really trying to kill),anyways I really like her and once she died for no logical reason I just realize that the writer purposefully wrote the story to be bad...or the writer is not human. This was probably a poorly scripted AI that was still in alpha when they forced it to produce a movie.

The author of the plot gave control of the show to the episode directors, very rare practice in anime. So basically each episode had a different director behind it with the goal to progress the story from the point it previously reached.

She died because she was murdering and harvesting innocent vampires who they attracted to the Village. She died because she wanted to harvest Fine, they poisoned her drink and we're waiting to take her captive, then Allegro came and tried to hide her while searching for reinforcements

Normally I would agree, but I felt there was enough subtext in the dialogue and the actions of the main characters to quantify a relationship beyond just a simple friendship. Such as Fine only really showing interest in women (her past and the dancing scene and Momo), and Momo’s friend saying basically they can go live together forever and that awkward look they gave each other when she was on top of Momo in the snow. Though I apologize if I’m misreading it, I feel if Fine was a man and Momo’s friend was a man too, we’d have no trouble saying this was a love story, even if they don’t kiss. But I’m not the writer of this, so this is in no way fact. Just my interpretation.

Except this was heavily LGBT inclined, the only reason we didn't have a Kiss its because of the Age gap. Fine was clearly lesbian since first episode, noblemen call her out for being with women, she invites one of them to her house, she talks about the woman she loved. It's all there. Momo clearly had a thing going with her Best friend, even to the point of talking about growing older togheter, holding hands and being devastated by her death to the point of throwing her own life away. I swear, these "They we're just Friends" guys gave overthinking a whole new level lmao

@@LocklanStareyes Yea, I decided to compare the sub and dub and the dub actually has quite a bit of writing changes that I feel makes Momo sound more definitive and determined in her decisions, and overall makes the story more understandable. I'd recommend even trying rewatching just the 1st episode in the English dub (which is really well acted by the way) to see if you feel any differently about it
