Fun fact: the reason these actors have opaque/metal glasses during the group-talk scenes is so the editors can splice footage out of order and not have the audience clued in based on the drink-levels being off.

That’s awesome about the glasses. I worked on a reality t.v. show, back when they were first catching on, so during production I had no idea how deceptive they could be … and then, when I actually watched the show as it aired, I saw *all the exterior footage we had shot around various Chicago neighborhoods,* for one leg of the show’s auditions, being recycled *over and over again* and presented to the audience as *the exteriors of the Seattle, Wisconsin, Portland, and a few other cities’ auditions,* just because the production crews for those other legs of the auditions had either not shot any b-roll or had shot inadequate b-roll. So if you ever watch an early 2000s show called _Are You Hot? The Search for America’s Sexiest People_ (hosted by Lorenzo Lamas), just know that nearly every exterior shot of every audition nationwide was actually shot around Chicago, but then presented as “Oh, here’s Seattle, and now here’s Portland,” those lazy @#$%&! producers…

The thing about giving someone an ultimatum is: you'd better be prepared for either option you're giving the person. If you're going to tell someone "marry me or we have to break up," or "if you stay friends with that person then we can't be friends," or even "you clean that up or you're fired," you'd better be ready for the person to call your bluff. Ready to be single. Ready to lose a friend. Ready to be understaffed. Forcing someone to make a decision when *you* want them to can very often turn out not to be in your favor. You should never play games with that kind of thing. In my case, that kind of forced decision-making worked out great for me in the long run, but not so much for the other person. My ex gave me that marriage ultimatum. He loved me, and wanted to get married since we'd been together a long time and everyone (his mom, especially) told him we should hurry it up. I was not ready to be married, and may never be. Him telling me "either we get married or break up" made me realize that maybe I just didn't want to marry *him,* and that I'd been too afraid to tell him (or anyone, for that matter) because we'd been together for so long and got along so well and it would break his heart if I rejected him now. In the end I'm glad I made the decision I did. I do hope he finds his happiness, though. He's a wonderful person, even if our relationship wasn't meant to last. All this is to say is don't try to pressure people into doing something you want them to do, especially if you love/care about them. And *definitely* don't try to be sneaky about it in an ultimatum!
@sylmaerie2 жыл бұрын
can confirm my ex gave me the “i’m not ending this conversation unless you tell me if we’re breaking up or not” during a fight (by text) so i broke up with her 😭 i was like fine if you won’t even give me the option to do it later in person then i’ll do it now
@Jellybeansatdusk Жыл бұрын
@@sylmaerie idk, I’ve been on the other end of that. My ex and I got into a fight on the day my grandma died because I was mad that he hadn’t called me for my birthday the day before. He was basically accusing me of being immature and taking it out on him that I was upset about my grandmother dying and I was like idk I feel like it’s reasonable to be emotional about that and hurt that all I asked you to do was just call me for my birthday, and you couldn’t even do that. So we were texting and I was already stressed out and dealing with a lot and he was like “you’re exhausting, I can’t handle this” and wanting to stop and I was like we can talk about it tomorrow and he was like, I don’t want to talk about it at all. Basically I was like I feel disrespected and if you’re not willing to acknowledge the way that I feel, even if you think it’s not your fault, just be there for me when I’m sad and feel hurt. And basically he was like not having it and really upset with me and started talking about how we was unsure about stuff. He was like we should talk tomorrow and it was pretty clear he just wanted time to think of a way to break up with me, like you know how you just get that vibe. So I just asked him straight up like are you thinking of breaking up with me, because if that’s something you’re going to do just get it over with now and don’t drag it out and make me wait until tomorrow. Because otherwise I would have been up all night anxious thinking about it, and I really just wanted to be with my family and grieve and not have to worry about that at that time.
@sylmaerie Жыл бұрын
@@Jellybeansatdusk yeah i totally understand that and i’m really sorry that happened; that must have been really difficult and hurtful and i understand why you handled it the way you did for sure. i hope you’re doing okay now it’s worth it to mention for my story that my ex was not going through anything at the time, in fact she was apparently doing super great and seeing me after being fully long distance for 4 months was not very high on her list of priorities in her mind- actually when i had asked about potentially coming with her to all the parties she was getting invited to with her roommate (we are/were in college) her response was to say “sure that could be fun but i think we should have a conversation about boundaries soon.” and beyond that she had a history of a) not making me feel comfortable speaking to her about anything that hurt me/i had an issue with in our relationship and b) expecting me to be able to drop everything to talk to her about any issues SHE had in our relationship. it was extremely one-sided and this was the first time in our entire relationship i had been able to speak up and talk to her about something that was bothering me, and she immediately turned it into something much bigger than it was and only after realizing that i was genuinely upset and not backing down she pulled the “this is damaging my mental health and i’m not ending this conversation until you decide whether we are breaking up or not” card (among other toxic manipulative things she had started pulling throughout the conversation). i feel like our situations are actually quite similar apart from who ended up actually giving the ultimatum-both of us were wronged and put in an extremely unfair position where it felt like only our ex’s feelings mattered to them. and while i do feel bad that i ended up breaking up with her by text, she left me no choice with the ultimatum. but after that argument had been resolved in some way i was going to break up with her anyway based on what she said that day before the ultimatum on top of all the things that had happened prior-i was just trying to see if solving this problem and actually being together in person normally for a while would help, and if it didn’t, then have the decency to do it kindly and in person until she forced my hand.
@Jellybeansatdusk Жыл бұрын
@@sylmaerie I agree. Like, I can’t say “never try and give people ultimatums” because I agree its generally unfair and a bad position to put someone in, but at the same time I understand it because sometimes you just can’t wait forever and you need to know if the other person is committed, or ever going to be. So ultimately I can’t say never give them, just be prepared to get either end of it, because you can try and force someone to choose, but you can’t make them choose what you want them to.
@sylmaerie Жыл бұрын
@@Jellybeansatdusk hard agree on that one. it just comes down to being prepared for every outcome of the situation, even the ones you don’t want. if one is prepared and feels an ultimatum is necessary for their own peace of mind and self, then go for it. i hope you’re doing better now

I went to a language course abroad for three weeks when I was 15 and had a great time with the friends I made of the people on the same program. Then in the reunion party a month after the course I found out nobody of that group was actually interested in socialising with me, one of them even going "nah, I don't want the number of [the city I lived in instead of my name]" when I asked to change numbers because they'd had a different number during the course. I was pretty devastated and spent pretty much the next half a year in a kind of confusion of having great memories but looking through all of them in an entirely new light of what of it was genuine and what not. That also reignited my primary school anxiety of who I can trust when making friends in the first place. But at least it also caused me to be a lot better in choosing my friends in time so no complaints anymore.

I can't stand people who think others have to justify why they're not into you, let alone think ITS NOT AN OPTION FOR PPL TO SAY NO. Everyone's always acting like it's a given that we all understand consent, but honestly all it takes is one spoilt childhood for someone not to get a grasp of it

The show was actually not filmed in isolation. They all still went on about their normal lives, had their phones and everything. So actually, they are just reacting like this purely based on self-sabotage and created drama.

Wanting children is such a huge issue. If you want kids they’re hard work but it’s worth it: if you don’t want kids, it’s hard work and it would be the worst thing possible if you’re getting nothing out of it. You’d keep hating the situation in the back of your mind and it wouldn’t be right for the kids if they had a mum that deep down didn’t want them.
@ydad894610 ай бұрын
Being a parent has nothing to do with getting something out of it. Parenthood is intended to be the most selfless act one can carry out. The issue is that there are a lot of people having children and who should never have done so simply because they are having children for all of the wrong reasons.
@houndofculann17938 ай бұрын
@@ydad8946 I disagree. "Getting something out of it" doesn't mean it has to be something measurable or that can be objectively said to be fulfilling to anyone else. Just getting to raise a kid and be their guardian might get you fulfillment of having a purpose. You get company, good company even for the rest of your life if you do your job well. You get to experience aspects of life through your children that you probably would not have gone through without them. You get to leave a legacy on a more personal level. At the same time, yes, it is a huge responsibility and doing it for selfish reasons only will probably get you and your children in a mess. On the contrary historically, having children really was an investment with expected profits for the vast majority of people. For the lower classes they were extra workers to help feed the entire family and take care of you when you get too old to manage it entirely by yourself. For the higher classes they were a means to keep the power they held within the family, and to gain more.

I can see where Madeleine is coming from tbh. They agreed to be on this show which means they agreed to be with a single different partner for the run of the show, but Colby stepping outside of that agreement to hook up with random people outside of the show was not in the agreement they made. It became cheating the moment he went looking for someone outside of the partner he selected for the show.

My siblings are 5 and 7 years younger and your interactions, the little that we saw, are so so similar to me and my siblings. Love your channel. Colby is the worst character in the show. He has extreme manipulative nice guy energy and in the end basically coerces Madylin into marrying him. I think Alexis aestethic conceals the level of real and good insight she has into the people on the show...
