Anthony Joseph This is based on a true story about a serial rapist and a young woman, his first victim, who wasn’t believed by law enforcement when they could’ve stopped him from raping anyone else. To hell with you and your political agenda.
@irelandevr40465 жыл бұрын
The sad part is the 1st episode is pretty true to how a lot of women are treated by some detectives when the victims truth is not convenient for them. A lot of women are not believed because of their past. Episode 1 pissed me the hell off....

@The Man vs PC true questions have to be asked, witnesses, close family, friends have to be heard but in this case the detectives started to doubt Marie only after speaking to her fostermom. If she hadnt implicated she tought the story was made up by marie they would never have made that turn. Since when is an assumption of a bystander more worth then the version of the victim itself? Seeing marie so lost and lonely, having to deal with this trauma all by herself was devasting to watch.
@mirthepeeters655 жыл бұрын
@Shaun Fleming i get u when u say the forstermom is more then a bystander but still the fostermom implied that she was lying but there was no evidence that this was true. Her word against Marie s. She didnt have a history of lying. She did things as a teenager that werent considered to be apropriat yet knowing what she went through as a kid u can expect such behavior. Just cuz marie didnt acted the same way after the rape as the fostermom once did she believed marie was making the whole story up. Thats pretty arrogent. And for the cops to just follow these assumptions thats really hard to understand for me. I know there are words spelled wrong in this reply but english isnt my first language so pls ignore them.
@tristinwright77745 жыл бұрын
What are you talking about?? The detectives were doing everything to help her and find the rapist until she kept telling different stories about what happened, the foster mom saying she has done things to get attention, and the fact there is no evidence of force entry and no evidence that rape had happened. What do you expect people to believe her if she can’t tell you what really happened and kept changing her story??

I get both sides to this. Cops have to be as thorough as possible because women do lie and some accidentally make false IDs. And innocent men have been locked up for it and the real criminals assaulted more women. But also cops need to have a certain bedside manner talking to female assault victims. Those cops didn’t have it. As a survivor myself i see why it’s important for female cops to talk to victims. Men don’t understand the trauma aspect the same way women do. That some women respond differently than others. And some women choose to block it out because it feels easier. We should try to bring awareness to how often these things happen to us everyday. And to be honest how much the justice system falls short in that aspect because of those factors.
@bookwyrmn11 ай бұрын
Statistically speaking it's less than 1% of allegations are discovered to be false while often victims (of any gender) are badgered, harassed, accused of all sorts of foul things from fabricating to attention seeking to "asking for it".

Wilker Saito it's based off a true story. She was actually telling the truth but the cops, who didn't understand how rape victims react and process what happened to them, along with her former foster mother, believed that she made it up. Her foster mother used the girl's experience of an unstable upbringing to cast doubts on her claims. About two years later, they eventually found evidence that she was indeed raped and the entire police department in that town had to be trained in how they handle rape victims and the cops that took her case were investigated.

would be interesting if it turns out she is lying in the end, otherwise it would be so predictable if turns out she was somehow telling the truth even though her story and facts dont add up and its logical that the police would have doubts.
@Ultimaton1005 жыл бұрын
It wouldn’t be interesting because it would be a lie. This is based on a true story. The two male detectives kept pressuring her and harrowing her until she cracked and told them what they wanted to hear. Ultimately despite anything she said or did, they’re the ones who botched her case. She sued the city and won after being vindicated.

I’m sorry, but are actively dumb or something? (: this show was based on true life events that actually happened between 2008 and 2011. Marie adler was one of those people who struggled throughout basically her whole life in the foster system, but no, of course you wouldn’t bother to look it up. This case was unfortunately REAL and yes, this kind of show is definitely not for everyone

The case of serial rapist Marc O’Leary, who committed multiple rapes between 2008 and 2011 when he was caught and convicted. His first victim, the girl in the trailers, wasn’t believed by the two male detectives assigned to her case and was coerced into “admitting” she made the whole thing up. It’s a pretty interesting, albeit upsetting and frustrating crime docu-drama.

Unfortunate truth about these situations. It's not necessarily that the truth is inconvenient, it's just that there's no evidence besides peoples' testimony, which is the most unreliable form of evidence cuz people lie on both sides. With this being a free country and the rightfully noble presumption of innocence, it is what it is...

ah yes, we need an entire show to sell us straw mans as to why it's too difficult for women to just tell the truth about a situation they experienced. You think women are the only ones who experience trauma or get raped? funny how men have no problems when it comes to being honest about their experience when reporting it to the police or any other agency/organization, but women, for whatever reason, can't keep their story straight, remember things differently... and the list goes on.
