This version has absolutely nothing in common with Poe's dreary, classic story bar the name. Of course, in modern, woke times it has to be diverse including gay characters. As I've only watched the 1st episode of this new miniseries, there's still time for a transgender child to make an appearance. I recently watched the 1960s film with Vincent Price which was truer to Poe's dreary, classic story which I much preferred as you probably guessed.

And when I heard Mike Flanagan was gonna adapt it I was hyped to say the least. I was honestly hoping/expecting a period piece. But bringing it to modern day does seem intriguing and more up Flanagan's alley anyway. Nevertheless can't wait to see this!

The last 5 minutes of each episode is all I really found entertaining, sadly. It wasn't necessarily a bad story or anything, it was just a boring buildup. Like all of Flannagan's work, it jumps between the past and present a lot, and tells the story in tiny bits and pieces when the whole thing could have been summed up in half the time. That said, the show had me looking up how easily you can break handcuff chains. Long story short, there's a major plot issue. lol

This show should be rated 10/10. The amount of symbology used in this series is insane. We could appreciate not only the most recurrent topics used by Poe in his novels such as death, opioids or misfortune, but also nods to stories that were not so explicitly represented, such as Berenice (Morelle), MS found in a bottle (Pym) or Cask of Amontillado (Griswold), for example. I’d say that the story that best represents this whole series, however, is William Wilson, showing that you are your own enemy and that every action has a consequence. “I have lost. Yet from now on you are also dead - dead to the World, dead to Heaven, dead to Hope! In me you lived - and in my death - see by this face, which is your own, how wholly, how completely, you have killed - yourself!” Props to Flanagan for creating such a brilliant show 🙌🏽
