I’m a 64 yo man, probably not Taylor’s main demographic, needed to fill an hour before going to bed so I hit the stand up section on Netflix and as I was scrolling a clip for “Have it All” came on and I cracked up so I watched it. Since then I have seen all of her specials, even told my sister about Taylor. To have so much talent at such a young age, I can only imagine the hard work and repetition it took to get there and it makes it all the more impressive. Super funny person!

This. I'm an older guy and to listen to her stand up is not just funny as hell, but helps me to understand the things people are experiencing and dealing with today. 60 year old guy. I grew up listening to Carlin and Pryor, I know great comedy when I hear it. Her material, timing, body language and facial expressions are spot on. I think she is probably the best female in comedy right now. Male comedians talk about different things, i.e. Bill Burr/Ron White. I hope Taylor has a LONG career.

I hope this doesn’t sound weird, but it’s like we’re watching her grow up. I didn’t think it would get any better than Look at You and then Have it All came out. She just keeps getting better and better and watching her get more and more comfortable on After Midnight and really own that is extremely special. Congratulations, Taylor! The taking your SO to meet your parents is one of my favorite bits along with with the like throwing a brick through a window and in Look at You when she was talking about a therapist connecting all your childhood traumas…that one is probably my fave.

For me, her best joke by far and away is the one that starts with " Oh, don’t start crying now. It’s too late and too early." and ends with "I just need a project, mother**ker!" The way she does that bit where she grabs her imaginary fiance face is just too good.

Another aspect I noticed about Taylor's specials is that each stage blends very well not only with her jackets, but also with the respective themes. The lights on "Quarter-Life Crisis" have a nice balance between the background's dark tone and the very bright lamp following Taylor, so they sell the idea of the special being an "introduction" to her body of work; on "Look at You", the stage is even emptier and darker, only lit up by a series of small lamps, which was likely intended as a symbol of vulnerability and candidness; on "Have It All", the stage is much more brighter and colorful, so it lets you know that Taylor is taking a sort of a "victory lap", even if she's still figuring out a lot of things about her life. I think this shows how the work of everyone behind the curtains, whether it's in a movie, a play, a special or something else, can help you get your jokes and messages across even more effectively!

it's cute to see the jackets mirror her own journey of coming into her own, where it starts as a plain black regular jacket she wore to the airport and she gradually becomes more comfy and confident until she's wearing pink flames. also interesting that color only comes in after therapy. good for you, girl.

It's interesting how much I love Taylor's work, considering my demographic and personal experiences are so far removed from hers. I have loving supportive parents- both still alive. I'm a generation older (though of course lived through my 20s as well- 20+ years ago). I'm a straight man, not a bi woman. She talks a lot in this interview about all the people who have come to her telling her how much they relate to her jokes and stories: "That's just like me! I thought I was the only one!" which clearly she did too, until those people opened up to her- after she opened up to them. Sharing one's shared experiences- knowing that you're not alone: that can be a very powerful consequence of good comedy! But the way she crafts her jokes, makes even me- someone who does not personally relate- relate to her situation. And that is another powerful consequence of good comedy: opening up your audience to empathy. I consider myself a fairly empathetic person already; I try to be, at any rate. And comedy can be a great way to share yourself, because it's disarming. Black people can tell jokes that allow their fellow black people to say, "yes, that's true!" and also allow white people to say, "Is that true, I had no idea that was your experience" in a safe atmosphere. Gay people can tell their stories: other gay people will agree, and straight people will be informed. Women can talk about their dating experiences, or their traumas, and other women can say "Me too; I've been there" and straight men can say, "Is that what it's like? I've never thought about it that way, before!" Someone with Bipolar Disorder can talk about "arm floaties," and other bipolar people can use that metaphor in their own lives, therapists can use it with their patients, people without bipolar- those folks floating on their own back- can understand that while they can float maybe some others need floaties, and that's okay, too. Comedy can be a powerful, powerful tool for communication! Beyond "just" making us laugh- which is also tremendously good for our mental and physical health, just all on its own- the power of comedy to bring like people together, and also bring non-like people together: that's so awesome. I don't know if Taylor quite knows how much her comedy has shaped some people. Maybe she does; I hope she does (without getting self-conscious about it) understand how her voice is a powerful one. Keep on keepin' on, Taylor!!

I watched Taylor's newest special Have it All when I was having a lot of health problems and could not look at screens and was struggling in a lot of other ways so being able to listen to her specials was really helpful and really helped me during that time I listened to it a few times and it helped me a lot. The first thing I did when I was able to look at screens again was watch the special as well as listen. I also binged After Midnight every single day for a week while laying down with my eyes closed and it helped me get through those rough days where I really couldn't do anything besides lay down with my eyes closed.

It's hard for me to get into comedy because a lot of what I've seen in the past decade or so has been too crude, too smug, too disturbing (like the pedophilia joke that somehow wasn't cut from an SNL monologue), or out of touch. But Taylor Tomlinson strikes just the right balance of authenticity and relatability and combines it with a masterful delivery style. I watch every episode of After Midnight, and I've never been one to watch late night variety shows. Taylor is just too much fun for me to miss it.

I made sure to quickly scroll past all the clips from "Have it all" that came across my feed so I could watch the whole thing together once I renewed my Netflix. That pink jacket sure helped pick them out quick! Watched it yesterday. Loved it! Wish you'd come for Just for Laugh in Montreal.

Also as a guy married to someone with bipolar (the real kind, not the hip new kind) the arm floaties is unbelievably accurate!

My wife and I cannot wait to see you in Hartford in December! My wife and I get out maybe once every 6 months because we have kids (daughters 6 & 2), and your show is a week after our 7 year anniversary. We chose you to commemorate our union because parenting is nothing if not a comedy act. :)

I have seen every-single one of your AM shows and absolutely love your humor! 😊 you deserve a pink flames jacket, just don’t tug on them so much. ;)
