Hey Frank I got my extender working. I had to use the Device Access code on my modem to change the WiFi settings. I changed my SSID network to EXT and my WiFi channel to 48. I pushed the WPS button on my modem and then on the extender and it worked. However on my basement PC I get 5 bars through the extender but my speed is 130 mbps instead of 300 mbps. The downloading of the pages are much faster now. My extender is in the dining room which is closest to the router.

I know and understand this video is seven years old. I’ve had this product probably since then and have been able to set it up and it works fine it just doesn’t let me get into the netgear genie to be able to update firmware and such. Would their customer service line still work and would they help me even if I don’t have a technical support plan?

There is a stronger wifi extender out there to use in this situation or if possible run a ethernet cable to the basement
@FrankGuest5 жыл бұрын

Can you run an Ethernet cable off your main router and run it inside the wall down to your basement. There you can have an additional router for signal. I did this at my house some time ago and it works very well. Just a thought.

I’m Verizon technician. You connected your extender with 2.4 frequency to the Verizon gateway. That’s the problem you’re not giving it , its full potential connected to the 5 GHz WiFi for faster speed. Unless your Devices are not capable with the 5 GHz , because not all devices are capable with 5 GHz.
@FrankGuest6 жыл бұрын
When I set up my extender, I did not see my wifi network on the 5G side of the Netgear genie setup page. My network only showed up on 2.4GHz. I have since upgraded to a new "extender". I have the Netgear Orbi AC 3000. I not have over 400 up and down in my basement. Check out that video if you like, Its on my channel.

Hey Frank I got the Netgear AC1200 WiFi extender. It acts weird. It drops out sometimes. It drops from 300 to 130 mbps. Sometimes it says your connected to the internet when you are not. I sometimes don't see the router light and the client on but I can still use the internet. Should I get 4 more WiFi extenders? My extender sits in the dining room so the downstairs PC can get the connection.

Do you know if its possible to pair this device to a powerline adapter?
@FrankGuest5 жыл бұрын
That dank guy . I am far from an expert on this subject. But I don’t think it will work. I don’t think the extender will see your PLA. It will look for your router to connect and extend. I only used this product for about 6 months and then I updated to an Orbi whole home WiFi product. I have a video on that as well on my channel. If you need an ethernet connection to a device in your house and that device is not close to your router, you should look into the Orbi or similar products.

Any WiFi extender under $100 is junk. It may work for a year, or it may not connect at all. Don't waste your time and money on these cheap $30 or $40 extenders. You'll spend more time sending them back to wherever you bought it than you will on your computer. Been there done that.
@FrankGuest4 жыл бұрын
This extender absolutely did not work for me. I state this in my video. I replaced it with an Orbi. I have a video of that on my channel as well.
@HenryTheBoilermaker3rdYear7 жыл бұрын
Waste of money. Without WiFi extender is faster.
@FrankGuest7 жыл бұрын
Henry Chaisritha I would no say it was a waist of money. At least I have internet in our basement. So it worked. Just not as good as I had hoped. Looking into other options for better results.
@HenryTheBoilermaker3rdYear7 жыл бұрын
Frank Guest ow yes. But you should use Ethernet cable instead like me. You can get 30+m Ethernet cable and stick the cable up the wall. With Ethernet cable you get full speed no matter how long your cable is.
@FrankGuest7 жыл бұрын
Henry Chaisritha very true. But I don’t want cables running on the outside of my wall. At some point I’ll run a cable inside the walls to my basement. But at that point I won’t use the extender. I’ll use a small switch.
